S be O and S be O 时,第二个be省掉(S=主语 O=宾语)
所以得出:1.A项不行,have been 要用也是直接用be 2.

arrived to 错了
应该是arrived in

Its reviews were mixed and its sales were disappointing.

He said that the earth moves around the sun.

Nick thinks Gatsby is great because he was able to create a new identity for himself when he needed to be someone else. Gatsby's determination and audacity are amazing to Nick. Gatsby focused on a goal, that of winning Daisy, and he did whatever was necessary to attain it.
Gatsby established that he would need wealth to keep Daisy in the manner she was accustomed to, and so he attained a "business" that would give him financial wealth. He studied mannerisms and expressions he thought would be what the social elite would say and do, and in this way , his gullibility is endearing.
Another aspect of Nick's admiration of Gatsby is the fact that he is a romantic at heart. Gatsby never veers from his goal and dream of winning Daisy, and even in the face of reality, his steadfast determination is admirable , if somewhat misguided.

Fitzgerald Scott Fitzgerald was the leader of the Jazz age and one of the best America writers of the 20th century.
He attended Princeton University, while left in 1917 and enlisted in the army.In an army camp he met Zelda Sayre and fell in love with her who became the model for most the pretty heroines of his later fiction. In 1921,Fitzgerald and Zelda were married and settled on Long Island and led an extravagant life.In 1925,he published his third novel The Great Gatsby,a masterpiece related with irony and disillusionment of American Dream.
The story is told in the first person by Nick Carraway,a quiet young Midwesterner.In1922,Nick leaves home to do business in New York City.He rents a small house in West Egg and next door to his house is the enormous house of Mr.Gatsby.One evening,Nick dines with a distant cousin,Daisy and gets to know her husband Tom and Jordan Baker,an attractive young golfer.
Nick is invited to one of Gatsby’s parties and learns that Daisy and Gatsby were in love before. The reunion takes place and Nick has become involved with Jordon Baker.Tom later finds that his wife is in love with Gatsby and makes a conspiracy to have Gatsby killed.
In the end of the story,Gatsby is shot to death by a man and Nick is in charge of his funeral.Although he wants to provide him with a decent funeral,no one wants attend except for his father and servant.Nick realizes that the rich are careless and destructive.
In the beginning,Gatsby was to some degree a very mysterious person. But through the clue of the story, the secret of this strange man gradually turned to open and his past at last came into our view clearly.
Gatsby was an imaginary name standing for Gatz’s dream. Then he chased for his aim.At last,he actually became Gatsby,in possession of a huge house and a lot of money.I think we also should have this kind of dream in our daily life.
Why it is a novel connects with the “disillusionment” of “American Dream”?We can find answers from the text.Daisy once was Gatsby’s girlfriend, but she married to another man because she couldn’t wait any more.Sometimes we can think it was Gatsby’s poverty that leads to apartness of the two people. However, though Daisy got away from Gatsby for several years,Gatsby still had some beautiful dreams and he always thought one day these dreams could be fulfilled. But he did not know Daisy had changed. She was a stupid, selfish, vulgar, beautiful empty shell rather than a pure, lovely girl as before.Gatsby’s beautiful dream was broken into pieces at last. But he still struggled and struggled, still had a bit delusion in Daisy,so this lead to a more lamentable result.Gatsby at last became a victim of bloody Daisy.Carraway and seldom person attended Gatsby’s funeral, there was a great contrast between the funeral and the parties before his death.
It is a tragedy all-round.Mostly the distinct contrasts make us think quite a lot.Even his fathers on his funeral have pride rather than sadness, who will be sad about his death?
From this,we can see an eastern city vividly with noise, cold, empty and false.
Sometimes we can’t put the past and the current together, for they have a long distance. The past has gone like the cloud has floated away, even the cloud is pretty, and it can’t come back and stand before you again.

The two decades between World WarⅠand World WarⅡ were a golden age of American fiction.F.Scott Fitzgerald,a member of “the lost generation”,was regarded as a poet laureate and the spokesman of the jazz age.His masterpiece The Great Gatsby, was published in 1925,soon attracted the attention of the literary cycles and received acknowledgement and praise.Fitzgerald depicted the story about the persistence that Gatsby has for pursuing his dream and the delusion of his dream with vividness and condense. The portrait of the Jazz Age in all of its decadence and excess,Gatsby captured the spirit of the author’s generation and earned itself a permanent place in American mythology.T.S.Eliot once credited the work for “the first step that American fiction has taken since Henry James”.
For a long time,The Great Gatsby was classified as “a book about the Roaring Twenties.” It is one of those novels that so richly evoke the texture of their time that they become,in the fullness of time, more than literary classics; they become a supplementary or even substitute form of history.
The history and the reality of America have proved that “the American Dream” is,to some extent,a kind of illusion. The Great Gatsby is one of the representative works that reflects the illusory nature of the American dream. The protagonist of the novel,Gay Gatsby,is a sort of mythic hero and a romantic dreamer of the past.He devoted his life to the realization of his dream but met with complete failure in the end.

Copresence is defined here as consisting of two dimensions:copresence as mode of being with others, and copresence as sense of being with others.Mode of copresence refers to the physical conditions that structure human interaction.Six such conditions are delineated.Sense of copresence,on the other hand, refers to the subjective experience of being with others that an individual acquires in interaction. The main argument of this paper is that mode of copresence affects sense of copresence, and knowledge of how the former affects the latter will benefit copresence design.
Intertextuality .
Intertextualityis the shaping of texts' meanings by other texts. It can refer to an author’s borrowing and transformation of a prior text or to a reader’s referencing of one text in reading another. The term “intertextuality” has, itself, been borrowed and transformed many times since it was coined by poststructuralist Julia Kristeva in 1966.As critic William Irwin says, the term “has come to have almost as many meanings as users, from those faithful to Kristeva’s original vision to those who simply use it as a stylish way of talking about allusion and influence”

This thesis begins with the description about the author, the novel, the American dream and the social meaning of the novel, then analyzes main aspects that reflect the decline of the American dream in the 1920s.The purpose of this thesis is to help us have an overall and profound understanding about the real society in the Jazz Age in the 1920s,which deeply reveals the spiritual degeneration that was concealed by money and pleasure and the meditation on the disintegration of the American dream in an era of unprecedented prosperity and material excess

The Great Gatsby, written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald in 1925,tells a story about Gatsby, about American’s pursuing money and enjoyment in Jazz Age,and makes introspection of the spirit crisis which exists in the reality and ostentation and the disillusionment of American Dream (Fitzgerald,1925).Lady Daisy Broke with Gatsby, and married with Tom because of his wealth.Although Gatsby’s heart never changed,Daisy still abandoned him,and Gatsby died miserably at last.I think there are two reasons caused Gatsby’s death:his idealized and the society.
Gatsby was idealized. He loves Daisy and his heart never changed even Daisy did not love him anymore. He wanted to be with Daisy but Daisy was no longer the girl he met when he was young. She has changed from pure to pursue money and enjoyment.Daisy loves money, she did not care about Gatsby, who took the responsibility for the accident made by her.His purity made him die at the end.Daisy did not come in his funeral, she was on vocation.I feel pity about Gatsby. If he realized earlier that Daisy actually didn’t care him, maybe he wouldn’t die

The title character and protagonist of the novel,Gatsby is a fabulously wealthy young man living in a Gothic mansion in West Egg.He is famous for the lavish parties he throws every Saturday night, but no one knows where he comes from, what he does,or how he made his fortune.Gatsby was working for a millionaire made him dedicate his life to the achievement of wealth. When he met Daisy,he fell in love with her.Nick views Gatsby as a deeply flawed man, dishonest and vulgar, whose extraordinary optimism and power to transform his dreams into reality make him “great” nonetheless.
