The object of stringer fillet is:
a) To achieve a perfect tightness of surface joints which are to be superposed.

with steel, etc.) the sealant is used for:
- To protect the assemblies from the ingress in the joints of corrosive fluids or acting as
electrolytes which favour corrosion.
- To increase fatigue life of assemblies subjected to heavy duty.
- To protect assemblies subjected to vibratory demands, creators of relative microdisplacements of
metallic surfaces in contact with each other (e.g.: acoustic vibrations).
c) If the faying surfaces are of dissimilar materials (e.g.: carbon with aluminium), the sealant shall also
serve to help prevent galvanic corrosion.
