不能以数字计算的事物（如water paper milk）的名词,叫不可数名词,这些名词只能：如a bowl of rice,a cup of tea,不能直接加a,an等；通常物质名词和抽象名词都属于不可数名词.表示能够以数字计算的事物的名词,叫可数名词；通常个体名词和集体名词都属于可数名词.
而有些不可数名词可向可数名词转化,但含义不同,如water（水）→waters（水域）,wood（木头）→woods（树林）,paper（纸）→papers（报纸、文件）
