between successive intersection points exceeds apredefined value (in case of large triangles).the
developed tool path generation algorithm is part surface
driven as it uses the cc-points for further tool path
calculation.at every cc-point,a local coordinate
system (lcs),represented by the fl,tl and nl axes,is
defined (figure 1).the nl-axis is the local normal vector
at the cc-point,the fl-axis is the feed-direction vector
and the tl-axis is determined by the cross product
between the nl and the fl axes (tl = nl x fl).
within this work,the normal vector (nl) at a given ***oint
is calculated based on the normal vectors of the
neighbouring triangles (figure 2).the normal vector in a
vertex of a triangle (e.g.nb at point b) is calculated using
equation 1.with p the number of neighbouring triangles located in
the machining region.the normal vector at a cc-point,
which is located on an edge of a triangle,is calculated
as an interpolation of the normal vectors of the two
connecting vertices.as an example,the normal vectors
of the faceted model (figure 2) at the cc-points b

equations 2 and 3:with dx-y the distance between the points x and y.the algorithm calculates now a gouge free tool path
where the tool inclination angle a (angle between the
tool axis u and the normal vector nl) is optimised at
each cc-point for maximal material removal rate.this is
done in two steps.first,an initial tool inclination angle
(for maximal material removal rate) is calculated based
on the local surface properties (curvature) at the ***oint.
