the bell rang的rang是短暂性动词,所以只能用when,while后面一定要跟持续性动词.

When 和While都译为“当…的时候”区别为when后的从句谓语动词既可是延续性动词也可是短暂性动词而且还可作并列连词译为“这时”.但以下句型一定用when作并列连词

现在while和when区分的不是很细,但这道题还要注意语境.
全句的意思是,“我正要出门的时候,电话铃响了”.原句里用的是be about to,这个“正要”的意思比will急促的多,它所表示的状态是马上就要发生的,但我们直译成中文就看不出来了.
按语境理解,其实这句话的意思可以这样理“我马上要踏出门的那一刻,电话铃响了”.
