8.Corrugating Adhestive
Standard corrugated board is made with a starch-based adhesive applied at about 10 to 14 grams per square metre.Starch is not tolerant of high moisture levels and loses strength quickly.Since corrugated board itself loses about 50％ of its compression strength between 50％R.H.and90％R.H.,this does not pose a limitation.Where higher resistance is needed,starches can be modified or supplemented by the addication of various polymeric materials.A weather-resistant adhesive would maintain box properties at a somewhat higher level for a longer period.
Water-resistant adhensive would be required for those applications where the finished container will be in actual contact with water for periods of time.These are more expensive than weather-resistant adhensives and would be used only with corrugated board that is waxed or otherwise treated.
