The Sea,assuming the form of a woman,replied to him:"Blame not me,my good sir,but the winds,for I am by my own nature as calm and firm even as this earth; but the winds suddenly falling on me create these waves,and lash me into fury."
299.The Mules and the Robbers
TWO MULES well-laden with packs were trudging along.
One carried panniers filled with money,the other sacks weighted with grain.The Mule carrying the treasure walked with head erect,as if conscious of the value of his burden,and tossed up and down the clear-toned bells fastened to his neck.His companion followed with quiet and easy step.
All of a sudden Robbers rushed upon them from their hiding-places,and in the scuffle with their owners,wounded with a sword the Mule carrying the treasure,which they greedily seized while taking no notice of the grain.
The Mule which had been robbed and wounded bewailed his misfortunes.The other replied,"I am indeed glad that I was thought so little of,for I have lost nothing,nor am I hurt with any wound."
300.The Viper and the File
A LION,entering the workshop of a smith,sought from the tools the means of satisfying his hunger.He more particularly addressed himself to a File,and asked of him the favor of a meal.The File replied,"You must indeed be a simple-minded fellow if you expect to get anything from me,who am accustomed to take from everyone,and never to give anything in return."
304.The Ass and the Charger
AN ASS congratulated a Horse on being so ungrudgingly and carefully provided for,while he himself had scarcely enough to eat and not even that without hard work.But when war broke out,a heavily armed soldier mounted the Horse,and riding him to the charge,rushed into the very midst of the enemy.
The Horse was wounded and fell dead on the battlefield.Then the Ass,seeing all these things,changed his mind,and commiserated the Horse.
305.The Eagle and His Captor
AN EAGLE was once captured by a man,who immediately clipped his wings and put him into his poultry-yard with the other birds,at which treatment the Eagle was weighed down with grief.Later,another neighbor purchased him and allowed his feathers to grow again.The Eagle took flight,and pouncing upon a hare,brought it at once as an offering to his benefactor.
A Fox,seeing this,exclaimed,"Do not cultivate the favor of this man,but of your former owner,lest he should again hunt for you and deprive you a second time of your wings."
306.The Bald Man and the Fly
A FLY bit the bare head of a Bald Man who,endeavoring to destroy it,gave himself a heavy slap.Escaping,the Fly said mockingly,"You who have wished to revenge,even with death,the Prick of a tiny insect,see what you have done to yourself to add insult to injury?'
The Bald Man replied,"I can easily make peace with myself,because I know there was no intention to hurt.But you,an ill-favored and contemptible insect who delights in sucking human blood,I wish that I could have killed you even if I had incurred a heavier penalty."
307.The Olive-Tree and the Fig-Tree
THE OLIVE-TREE ridiculed the Fig-Tree because,while she was green all the year round,the Fig-Tree changed its leaves with the seasons.
A shower of snow fell upon them,and,finding the Olive full of foliage,it settled upon its branches and broke them down with its weight,at once despoiling it of its beauty and killing the tree.But finding the Fig-Tree denuded of leaves,the snow fell through to the ground,and did not injure it at all.
308.The Eagle and the Kite
AN EAGLE,overwhelmed with sorrow,sat upon the branches of a tree in company with a Kite."Why," said the Kite,"do I see you with such a rueful look?' "I seek," she replied,"a mate suitable for me,and am not able to find one." "Take me," returned the Kite,"I am much stronger than you are." "Why,are you able to secure the means of living by your plunder?' "Well,I have often caught and carried away an ostrich in my talons." The Eagle,persuaded by these words,accepted him as her mate.
Shortly after the nuptials,the Eagle said,"Fly off and bring me back the ostrich you promised me." The Kite,soaring aloft into the air,brought back the shabbiest possible mouse,stinking from the length of time it had lain about the fields."Is this," said the Eagle,"the faithful fulfillment of your promise to me?' The Kite replied,"That I might attain your royal hand,there is nothing that I would not have promised,however much I knew that I must fail in the performance."
309.The Ass and His Driver
AN ASS,being driven along a high road,suddenly started off and bolted to the brink of a deep precipice.While he was in the act of throwing himself over,his owner seized him by the tail,endeavoring to pull him back.When the Ass persisted in his effort,the man let him go and said,"Conquer,but conquer to your cost."

A THRUSH was feeding on a myrtle-tree and did not move from it because its berries were so delicious.A Fowler observed her staying so long in one spot,and having well bird-limed his reeds,caught her.The Thrush,being at the point of death,exclaimed,"O foolish creature that I am!For the sake of a little pleasant food I have deprived myself of my life."
311.The Rose and the Amaranth
AN AMARANTH planted in a garden near a Rose-Tree,thus addressed it:"What a lovely flower is the Rose,a favorite alike with Gods and with men.I envy you your beauty and your perfume."
The Rose replied,"I indeed,dear Amaranth,flourish but for a brief season!If no cruel hand pluck me from my stem,yet I must perish by an early doom.But thou art immortal and dost never fade,but bloomest for ever in renewed youth."
312.The Frogs' Complaint Against the Sun
ONCE UPON A TIME,when the Sun announced his intention to take a wife,the Frogs lifted up their voices in clamor to the sky.
Jupiter,disturbed by the noise of their croaking,inquired the cause of their complaint.
One of them said,"The Sun,now while he is single,parches up the marsh,and compels us to die miserably in our arid homes.What will be our future condition if he should beget other suns?'

My holiday
Summer holiday has already come. How happy am I!
The favorite thing I wanna do is traveling. I joined an outdoor club and went to the seaside in Zhejiang province with other members. On July 20, we started our journey at 21:00 in the evening. I was so sleepy that I fell asleep in the bus.
Suddenly someone was pushing me. I opened my eyes and a beautiful sea was right there. What a beautiful place! We swam in the sea and played beach volleyball. The wind, the sunshine, the blue sky and the happy boys and girls formed a wonderful picture! At noon, we cooked seafood like crabs, shrimps, seashells and so on. They are all so delicious.
My mouth is now watering again. I will never forget such interesting expirence.

The Thirsty Pigeon口渴的鸽子
A PIGEON, oppressed by excessive thirst, saw a goblet of water painted on a signboard. Not supposing it to be only a picture, she flew towards it with a loud whir and unwittingly dashed against the signboard, jarring herself terribly. Having broken her wings by the blow, she fell to the ground, and was caught by one of the bystanders.
Zeal should not outrun discretion.
有只鸽子口渴得很难受,看见画板上画着一个水瓶,以为是真的.他立刻呼呼地猛飞过 去,不料一头碰撞在画板上,折断了翅膀,摔在地上,被人轻易地捉住了.

The Raven and the Swan乌鸦和天鹅
A RAVEN saw a Swan and desired to secure for himself the same beautiful plumage. Supposing that the Swan's splendid white color arose from his washing in the water in which he swam, the Raven left the altars in the neighborhood where he picked up his living, and took up residence in the lakes and pools. But cleansing his feathers as often as he would, he could not change their color, while through want of food he perished.
Change of habit cannot alter Nature.

The Goat and the Goatherd 山羊与牧羊人
A GOATHERD had sought to bring back a stray goat to his flock. He whistled and sounded his horn in vain; the straggler paid no attention to the summons. At last the Goatherd threw a stone, and breaking its horn, begged the Goat not to tell his master. The Goat replied, "Why, you silly fellow, the horn will speak though I be silent."
Do not attempt to hide things which cannot be hid.

The Miser守财奴
A MISER sold all that he had and bought a lump of gold, which he buried in a hole in the ground by the side of an old wall and went to look at daily. One of his workmen observed his frequent visits to the spot and decided to watch his movements. He soon discovered the secret of the hidden treasure, and digging down, came to the lump of gold, and stole it. The Miser, on his next visit, found the hole empty and began to tear his hair and to make loud lamentations. A neighbor, seeing him overcome with grief and learning the cause, said, "Pray do not grieve so; but go and take a stone, and place it in the hole, and fancy that the gold is still lying there. It will do you quite the same service; for when the gold was there, you had it not, as you did not make the slightest use of it."

The Wolf and the Lamb 狼与小羊
WOLF, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea to justify to the Lamb the Wolf's right to eat him. He thus addressed him:"Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me." "Indeed," bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, "I was not then born." Then said the Wolf , "You feed in my pasture." "No, good sir," replied the Lamb, "I have not yet tasted grass." Again said the Wolf, "You drink of my well." "No," exclaimed the Lamb, "I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me." Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, "Well! I won't remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my imputations."
The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.

The Bat and the Weasels蝙蝠与黄鼠狼
A BAT who fell upon the ground and was caught by a Weasel pleaded to be spared his life. The Weasel refused, saying that he was by nature the enemy of all birds. The Bat assured him that he was not a bird, but a mouse, and thus was set free. Shortly afterwards the Bat again fell to the ground and was caught by another Weasel, whom he likewise entreated not to eat him. The Weasel said that he had a special hostility to mice. The Bat assured him that he was not a mouse, but a bat, and thus a second time escaped.
It is wise to turn circumstances to good account.

AN ASS having heard some Grasshoppers chirping, was highly enchanted; and, desiring to possess the same charms of melody, demanded what sort of food they lived on to give them such beautiful voices. They replied, "The dew." The Ass resolved that he would live only upon dew, and in a short time died of hunger.

The Lion and the Mouse 狮子与报恩的老鼠
A LION was awakened from sleep by a Mouse running over his face. Rising up angrily, he caught him and was about to kill him, when the Mouse piteously entreated, saying: "If you would only spare my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness." The Lion laughed and let him go. It happened shortly after this that the Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the ground. The Mouse, recognizing his roar, came and gnawed the rope with his teeth and set him free, exclaiming:
"You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you, expecting to receive from me any repayment of your favor; now you know that it is possible for even a Mouse to con benefits on a Lion."

Fox and cock

Sand and Stone
The story goes that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.
The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: "Today my best friend slapped me in the face."
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.
After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: "Today my best friend saved my life."
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone. Why?"
The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

Supposing that the Swan's splendid white color arose from his washing in the water in which he swam, the Raven left the altars in the neighborhood where he picked up his living, and took up residence in the lakes and pools. But cleansing his feathers as often as he would, he could not change their color, while through want of food he perished.

Change of habit cannot alter Nature.

The Miser, on his next visit, found the hole empty and began to tear his hair and to make loud lamentations. A neighbor, seeing him overcome with grief and learning the cause, said, "Pray do not grieve so; but go and take a stone, and place it in the hole, and fancy that the gold is still lying there. It will do you quite the same service; for when the gold was there, you had it not, as you did not make the slightest use of it."

He thus addressed him:"Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me." "Indeed," bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, "I was not then born." Then said the Wolf , "You feed in my pasture." "No, good sir," replied the Lamb, "I have not yet tasted grass." Again said the Wolf, "You drink of my well." "No," exclaimed the Lamb, "I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me." Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, "Well! The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.

A BAT who fell upon the ground and was caught by a Weasel pleaded to be spared his life. The Weasel refused, saying that he was by nature the enemy of all birds. The Bat assured him that he was not a bird, but a mouse, and thus was set free. Shortly afterwards the Bat again fell to the ground and was caught by another Weasel, whom he likewise entreated not to eat him. The Weasel said that he had a special hostility to mice. The Bat assured him that he was not a mouse, but a bat, and thus a second time escaped.

Shakespeare - Sonnet 18 This sonnet is by far one of the most interesting poems in the book. Of Shakespeare's sonnets in the text, this is one of the most moving lyric poems that I have ever read. There is great use of imagery within the sonnet. This is not to say that the rest of the poems in the book were not good, but this to me was the best, most interesting, and most beautiful of them. It is mainly due to the simplicity and loveliness of the poem抯 praise of the beloved woman that it has guaranteed its place in my mind, and heart.The speaker of the poem opens with a question that is addressed to the beloved, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" This question is comparing her to the summer time of the year. It is during this time when the flowers are blooming, trees are full of leaves, the weather is warm, and it is generally thought of as an enjoyable time during the year. The following eleven lines in the poem are also dedicated to similar comparisons between the beloved and summer days. In lines 2 and 3, the speaker explains what mainly separates the young woman from the summer's day: she is "more lovely and more temperate." (Line 2) Summer's days tend toward extremes: they are sometimes shaken by "rough winds" (line3) which happens and is not always as welcoming as the woman. However in line 4, the speaker gives the feeling again that the summer months are often to short by saying, "And summer抯 lease hath too short a date." In the summer days, the sun, "the eye of heaven" (line 5), often shines "too hot," or too dim, "his gold complexion dimmed" (line 6), that is there are many hot days during the summer but soon the sun begins to set earlier at night because autumn is approaching. Summer is moving along too quickly for the speaker, its time here needs to be longer, and it also means that the chilling of autumn is coming upon us because the flowers will soon be withering, as "every fair from fair sometime declines." (Line 7) The final portion of the sonnet tells how the beloved differs from the summer in various respects. Her beauty will be one that lasts forever, "Thy eternal summer shall not fade." (Line 9), and never end or die. In the couplet at the bottom, the speaker explains how that the beloved's beauty will accomplish this everlasting life unlike a summer. And it is because her beauty is kept alive in this poem, which will last forever. It will live "as long as men can breathe or eyes can see." (Line 13)On the surface, the poem is on the surface simply a statement of praise about the beauty of the beloved woman and perhaps summer to the speaker is sometimes too unpleasant with the extremes of windiness and heat that go along with it. However, the beloved in the poem is always mild and temperate by her nature and nothing at all like the summer. It is incidentally brought to life as being described as the "eye of heaven" with its "gold complexion". The imagery throughout the sonnet is simple and attainable to the reader, which is a key factor in understanding the poem. Then the speaker begins to describe the summer again with the "darling buds of May" giving way to the " summer抯 lease", springtime moving into the warmth of the summer. The speaker then starts to promise to talk about this beloved, that is so great and awing that she is to live forever in this sonnet. The beloved is so great that the speaker will even go as far as to say that, "So long as men breathe, or eyes can see," the woman will live. The language is almost too simple when comparing it to the rest of Shakespeare抯 sonnets; it is not heavy with alliteration or verse, and nearly every line is its own self-contained clause, almost every line ends with some punctuation that effects a pause. But it is this that makes Sonnet18 stand out for the rest in the book. It is much more attainable to understand and it allows for the reader to fully understand how great this beloved truly is because she may live forever in it. An important theme of the sonnet, as it is an important theme throughout much of the poetry in general, is the power of the speaker's poem to defy time and last forever. And so by doing this it is then carrying the beauty of the beloved down to future generations and eventually for al of eternity. The beloved's "eternal summer" shall not fade precisely because it is embodied in the sonnet: "So long as men can breathe or eyes can see," (line 13) the speaker writes in the couplet, "So long lives this, and this gives life to thee."(Line 14) With this the speaker is able to accomplish what many have done in poetry and that is to give the gift of an eternal life to someone that they believe is special and outshines everyone else around them. Perhaps it is because of a physical beauty that the speaker see, but I believe that it is more because of the internal beauty as seen in line 2, "Thou art more lovely and more temperate", that the beloved is deserving to live on forever.

戊申晦,五鼓,与子颍坐日观亭待日出.大风扬积雪击面,亭东自足下皆云漫.稍见云中白若樗蒱数十立者,山也.极天,云一线异色,须臾成五采.日上,正赤如丹,下有红光,动摇承之.或曰：此东海也.回视日观以西峰,或得日,或否,绛皜驳色,而皆若偻.
亭西有岱祠,又有碧霞元君祠,皇帝行宫在碧霞元君祠东.是日,观道中石刻,自唐显庆以来,其远古刻尽漫失.僻不当道者,皆不及往.
山多石,少土,石苍黑色,多平方,少圜.少杂树,多松,生石罅,皆平顶.冰雪,无瀑水,无鸟兽音迹.至日观,数里内无树,而雪与人膝齐.

Victory still out of battling Reds' reach

A gutsy second half effort by Adelaide United gave Melbourne a fright but the reigning A-League premiers escaped with a 3-1 victory at Docklands on Saturday evening.
An 88th-minute goal to Adrian Leijer,completely untroubled by the visitors' defence,was enough to seal United's fate for good after youngster Mate Dugandzic scored the opening two goals.
The three points sent Melbourne temporarily to the top of the A-League,and it will stay there if Gold Coast and Sydney lose this weekend.
Adelaide is left hovering in the middle of the competition table after 12 rounds.
The grand final rematch was the eighth time in a row the Reds have lost against Melbourne,but they often looked every bit as good as their opponents.
Coach Aurelio Vidmar said earlier in the week that the team had been working on self-belief and it certainly showed after the break,when the visitors came out with renewed vigour and kept the Victory on a tight leash.
But a strike by Adam Hughes in the 63th minute could only lessen the blow for United.
He turned a sweet header from Lloyd Owusu around the corner and into the back of the net past Glen Moss,who had a busy night in the box as Adelaide attacked with fervour.
Dugandzic banged in two goals,one on either side of the break,to send the Reds a message that they would have to battle for a win in front of a rabid Melbourne crowd.
He opened the scoring in the 17th minute off the back of an assist from Thai international Sutee Suksomkit,who started for the Victory in his first A-League match.
Sutee seemed to have plenty of confidence on the field and was given ample opportunity on the attack as he shared the midfield with Dugandzic.
Dugandzic extended Melbourne's lead when he finished from a tidy Carlos Hernandez setup after Matthew Kemp threaded a long ball through the ambling Adelaide defence.
The 20-year-old's second goal was almost a nod to the referees,who dealt him a yellow card just minutes earlier for talking back.

Lockyer salivating at Marshall challenge

The one-on-one battle between Benji Marshall and Darren Lockyer is the one that could decide the war,and it has the Kangaroos' skipper salivating ahead of his side's opening Four Nations clash against New Zealand on Sunday morning (AEDT).
While each will need a little help from team-mates,particularly the forwards,whoever comes out on top in this man-on-man match-up at The Stoop in London will put their side within sight of a Four Nations final berth.
"It's not regular that your opposite number is also the opposition captain,but that's a little challenge out there on the field," Lockyer said.
"As I start to think more about the game between now and kick-off,they're are one of the little battles that will get the blood flowing."
Marshall,too,is eagerly awaiting the showdown.
"I love challenging myself ...to get the opportunity to play against the world's best five-eighth in a Test match is something special," he said.
While both will be doing their best to unlock the other side's defence,there is little doubt they will also be called upon to do plenty of tackling.
And it will not be just any tackling - it is stopping Goliaths like Kiwi backrower Frank Pritchard and rampaging Kangaroos lock Anthony Watmough.
Australian backrower Trent Waterhouse has been handed the job of protecting Lockyer,with his main aim keeping Penrith team-mate Pritchard quiet.
"The challenge is there for Trent to come out on top of his team-mate,and I'm sure Pritchard's thinking the same thing," Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens said.
"If anyone knows [Pritchard],Trent knows him.
"It's going to be a good challenge on that side.I said to Trent that if Pritchard gets to Lockyer,then Trent's had a bad game."
The match kicks off at 6:00am AEDT Sunday morning.

Hundreds of people have been killed in a massive earthquake in Japan that triggered a devastating tsunami. The quake -- the most powerful to hit Japan in more than 100 years -- caused massive damage and many people are missing and feared dead.
The 8.9 magnitude quake struck Friday off Japan's eastern coast, and prompted tsunami warnings across the Pacific as far away as South America and the U.S. West Coast. The Red Cross warned that the 10-meter high tidal wave could wash over some small islands entirely.
In Japan, the tsunami swept away boats, cars and hundreds of houses in coastal areas north of Tokyo.
The quake shook buildings in the Japanese capital and caused several fires. All train and subway traffic in Tokyo has been stopped, and thousands of people there were unable to get back home.
Authorities ordered the evacuation of about 3,000 people from the area around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant north of Tokyo. No radiation leaks were detected, but officials are concerned the reactor's core may overheat due to a system malfunction. A fire was also reported earlier in the turbine building of the Onagawa nuclear plant in Miyagi.
Addressing the nation, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said the government would do everything it can to minimize the effects of the disaster. And in Washington, President Barack Obama said the United States is ready to help the people of Japan. The U.S. military in Japan has opened up the Yokota Air Base to some commercial flights diverted from Japanese airports.

　　吊胡杨、悲胡杨,千年不倒亦堪伤.人生老病死残何足论,我今悲歌当哭,欲哭无泪殇胡杨.

When the sun begins to set behind the mountains,its long rays light up the green fields.The clouds in the sky also begin to glow with a golden light,and the mountains are really colourful.
When the sun begins to set behind the mountain,it looks like a red ball.Its light fills the sky and changes the colour of the clouds from gold to red.When the sun is gone altogether behind the mountain,the clouds turn grey and the mountains become black.
Then you cannot help admiring the wonder of nature.
洓:A Day to Remember
It was Sunday.Our teacher Mr Zhu led us to a park nearby.Usually we go to the park to spend our holiday.But today we went there to take part in voluntary labour.
We got there at nine o'clock.Mr Zhu divided us into three groups and then we began working.
The students in Group One planted trees and watered flowers.The studentsin Group Two were busy collecting litter left by the tourist.They also cleaned the benches in the park.I was in Group Three.We went to the children's playground and cleaned all the equipment there.We worked very hard.
At about eleven we finished working.We met at the gate of the park.We all felt tired .

Today is Friday.It is my thirteenth birthday.I got up very early in the morning and put on my new clothes happily.My parents bought me the new clothes as my birthday presents.I went to school earlier than before.I invited many of my classmates to come to my birthday party in the evening.
Evening came at last.Many of my classmate came to my home.They bought me lots of beautiful presents.They all said,"Happy birthday to you!" We sang birthday songs happily.Then my parents brought out a big birthday cake,saying,"We love you for ever.Happy birthday!"
At the end of the party,we ate the birthday cake and some other delicious food.How happy I was!

It was a sunny day.We decided to have a picnic outside the city.In the morning,we took an early bus to Nanhui.It was quite a colorful world.There were green trees,orange leaves,red peach blossoms.At noon,we reached the place,we sat by the river bank and took out a lot of things,such as bread,orange juice,apples,cakes,eggs and so on.But all of a sudden,it began to rain.Unluckily there was no shelter nearby.We had to take a bus to go back home in a hurry.

5.When I got home,it was very dark.Why?There is no electric.Every year in Beijing,there is lack of electric to supply.Because there are a lot of factories.And it is very cold in winter.So the government decided:supply electric to resident and the factories must stop working.My house is in the manufacturing district.I was unlucky.It was very cold.So my father use the electric making machine to make electric.Oh!What a unlucky winter!

Do you feel lonely from time to time? If so, I advise you to make some friends and I will also tell you how to make friends .
First of all ,you should be a general favourite. Only in this way you can make friends much more easily. But to be a general favourite is not an easy thing . Not only do you need to be polite and helpful but also you need to be a person with patience. You should take everything into consideration and pay more attention to details. And you shouldn’t be stubborn , you should follow others’ advice ,because a friend in need is a friend indeed.
You also need to know the importance of humor . Many people like humorous people, because they think they are happy with them. So you can aften tell jokes to make people around you happy. So that they are willing to share their time with you.. it means you will be friends with each other.
What’t more ,you should learn to forgive others’ mistakes and be a man of broad views. Because every person has his fault. Only when you lose your friends will you realize you are wrong. You should know the power of forgiveness.
