Bamboo is one of the nature’s most surprising plants. Many people call this plant a tree, but it is a kind of grass.
Like other kinds of grass, a bamboo plant may be cut very low to the ground, but it will grow back very quickly. A Japanese scientist recorded one bamboo plant that grew almost 1.5 meters in 24 hours! Bamboo grows almost everywhere in the world except Europe. There are more than 1,000 kinds of bamboo that grow around the world on both mountains and plains.
Not all bamboo looks the same. Some bamboo plants are very thin. They may only grow to be a few centimeters wide while others may grow to more than 30 centimeters across . This plant also comes in different colors, from yellow to black to green.
Many Asian countries have been using bamboo for hundreds of years. They often use bamboo for building new buildings. As a matter of fact, the cables(绳索) that hold up the hanging bridge across the Min River in Sichuan are made of bamboo. The bridge has been in use for more than 1,000 years, and is still holding strong.
In Africa, engineers are teaching poor farmers how to find water using bamboo. These African countries need cheap ways to find water because they have no money, and their fields often die from no rain and no water. It seems that bamboo is one of the best things they can use. Bamboo pipes and drills(钻) can help to make the poor thirsty fields to be watered.

I think it was on a piece of cabbage, Good! On Friday we made bags. I am going to tell you how to make the bags exactly. 1. First cut out one rectangle of fabric. 2. Fold the rectangle in half and fold down about 2 inches of the top of the fabric on each side. 3. Sew down the hem on each side. 4. Sew the seam on the left and right side. 5. Turn the bag inside out. 6. Make two braided cords out of yarn for the draw strings to open and close the bag. 7. Feed the cord through the opening of the hem all the way to the other side of the hem with your finger. Yesterday during gardening we had to chop up a whole bunch of chunks of dirt with a pick axe. It was very tiring. It took a while for our class to finish. When we finished we had to dig a trench around our plot. Then we got some big rocks and put them in our trench around our plot. I think next gardening class we are going to plant seeds in our plot. On Friday my teacher told me we were going on a field trip. I was very exited. I din not know where we were going. We all walked down stairs. When I walked down stairs the wind blew in my face and my nose was so cold that it turned pink. We walked to the front gate and got into the small yellow school bus. We drove to a place that was very nice because the sun came out. It was this long street that had old houses. Our teacher let every one get juice. We walked down the street and found a person that was selling cotton candy. Our teacher let us each get one that was bigger than our heads. We started walking the other way to go have lunch. Every one went to the bathroom to wash the sticky cotton candy off of their hands. We went to a really yummy restaurant and we all got noodles. The noodles were so good. (When we were done). We played for a little while. When we were walking back to the school bus we spotted some body that was selling this really good chewy candy. My teacher bought a bag of it and every body shared Yesterday in main lesson we went out of the school to look for mud. We found all different colors of mud. There was white mud, three was orange mud, three was red mud, and there was brown mud. I liked the white mud but the only problem was that the white mud was dry. Today we went back to where we found all the mud and we collected it in wheel barrows. When we had to bring the wheel barrows back they were very hard to push.
