This work describes ways of optimizing the robotic system to achieve the above mentioned design requirements.The design processes pertaining to the selection and development of different components are demonstrated in the following sections.The SCAVENGER includes the following five major subsystems:Locomotion system consists of two rubber tracks driven by DC motors through gear train assembly and safety clutches.The tracks provide the robot mobility through differential steering,and aided by linear optical encoders mounted on these tracks for synchronization.Naviation system equipped with infrared (IR) transmitter:receiver and bumper string proximity sensors for range and obstacle detection respectively.
