这proving不是用来修饰checked的,这个现在分词的逻辑主语是前面的the constable checked that the front door locks had not been forced 这个事实.

要是选C 那句子就会出现两个主语,the development 和 new types of fabrics
development led to de production
new types of fabrics既然是两句句子当中怎么能用of 来连接呢?
第十二题
,后句子的结构是主系表,即:charcoal was the chief fuel.至于used in blast furnaces是后置定语来修饰the chief fuel.

Have you ever wondered why each of us has different handwriting? Handwriting, also known as brain writing, is as individual to the person as fingerprints. Occupations, relationships, personal problems as well as health-related issues can be identified in a person's writing. Analyzing handwriting goes back to the 1600s and originated in Europe. Is handwriting analysis scientific?

A biometric security device using fingerprints erroneously refuses to admit 1 in 1,700 authorized persons from a facility containing classified information. The device will erroneously admit 1 in 1,006,000 unauthorized persons.Assume that 90 percent of those who seek access are authorized.
If the alarm goes off and a person is refused admission, what is the probability that the person was really authorized?

We assume that we have 100 people, and according to the question.90people are authorized,10 people are not.
And since the person we talked about it not refused,we only need to consider the people who are refused.
Based on the condition,in 100 people,we have [90X(1/1700)+10X(1-1/100600)] people who will be refused.
And the ones who are really authorized but refused are [90X(1/1700)]
As analyzed above, the probability should be [90X(1/1700)]/ [90X(1/1700)+10X(1-1/100600)]

最后一个阅读
Faces, like fingerprints, are unique. Did you ever wonder how it is possible for us to recognize people? Even a skilled writer probably could not describe all the features that make one face different from another. Yet a very young child—or even an animal, such as a pigeon—can learn to recognize faces. We all take this ability for granted.
We also tell people apart by how they behave. When we talk about someone’s personality, we mean the ways in which he or she acts, speaks, thinks and feels that make that individual different from others.
Like the human face, human personality is very complex. But describing someone’s personality in words is somewhat easier than describing his face. If you were asked to describe what a “nice face” looked like, you probably would have a difficult time doing so. But if you were asked to describe a “nice person”, you might begin to think about someone who was kind, considerate, friendly, warm, and so forth.
There are many words to describe how a person thinks, feels and acts. Gordon Allport, an American psychologist, found nearly 18,000 English words characterizing differences in people’s behavior. And many of us use this information as a basis for describing, or typing(测定类型), his personality. Bookworms(书呆子), conservatives, military types—people are described with such terms.
People have always tried to “type” each other. Actors in early Greek drama wore masks to show the audience whether they played the villain’s (坏人) or the hero’s role. In fact, the words “person” and “personality” come from the Latin persona, meaning “mask”. Today, most television and movie actors do not wear masks. But we can easily tell the “good guys” from the “bad guys” because the two types differ in appearance as well as in actions.
51. By using the example of fingerprints, the author tells us that .
A.people can learn to recognize faces
B.people have different personalities
C.people differ from each other in facial features
D.people have difficulty in describing the features of fingerprints
52. According to this passage, some animals have the gift of .
A.telling people apart by how they behave
B.typing each other
C.recognizing human faces
D.telling good people from bad people
53. Who most probably knows best how to describe people’s personality?
A.Psychologists.
B.The movie actors.
C.The ancient Greek audience.
D.The modern TV audience.
54. According to the passage, it is possible for us to tell one type of person from another because .
A.human faces have complex features
B.human fingerprints provide unique information
C.people’s behavior can be easily described in words
D.people differ in their behavioral and physical characteristics
55. Which of the following is the major point of the passage?
A.Why it is necessary to identify people’s personality.
B.How best to recognize people.
C.How to get to know people.
D.Why it is possible to describe people.
