neutral scientific and athletic images.In the explicit self-reference task,participants judged the selfdescriptiveness
of adjectives related to athletics or science.Implicit and explicit processing of self-relevant
(schematic) material elicited activity in many of the same regions,including medial prefrontal cortex,
posterior cingulate/precuneus,ventromedial prefrontal cortex,subgenual anterior cingulate,amygdala,and
ventral striatum.We suggest that processing self-related material recruits similar neural networks regardless
of whether the self-relevance is made explicit or not.

According to the news magazine Imaging World, "office workers spend 60% of the day dealing with paper documents and U.S. businesses continue to create over one billion pages of paper each day."(14) That's a lot of trees. The same article categorizes the imaging market into five components:
• image input
• image storage
• image management and processing
• image communications
• image output and display
Let's examine three aspects of these components. First, the OCR part of the input component; second, text retri, part of the management and processing component; finally, the media issues that are part of the storage component.

In recent times,improvements in imaging technology
have made available an incredible array of information in
imageformat.Whilepowerfulandsophisticatedimagepro-
cessingsoftware toolsareavailableto prepareandanalyze
the data,these tools are complex and cumbersome,requir-
ingsignificantexpertise to properlyoperate.Thus,inorder
to extract (e.g.,mine or analyze) useful information from
the data,a user (in our case a scientist) often must possess
bothsignificantscienceandimageprocessingexpertise.
This paper describes the use of Artificial Intelligence
(AI) planningtechniquesto represent scientific,image pro-
cessing,andsoftware toolknowledgeto automateelements
of science data preparationand analysis of synthetic aper-
tureradar(SAR)imageryforplanetarygeology.Inparticu-
lar,we describe the Automated SAR Image Processing sys-
tem (ASIP) which is currently in use by the Department of
Geology at Arizona State University (ASU) supporting ae-
olian science analysis of synthetic aperture radar images.
ASIPreducesthenumberofmanualinputsinscienceprod-
uct generation by 10-fold,decreases the CPU time to pro-
duce images by 30%,and allows scientists to directly pro-
ducecertainscienceproducts.
