中文的这一句诗出自钟毅、何纬翻译的纪实文学《比一千个太阳还亮》,书中记载,原子弹科学家罗伯特·奥本海姆在观看第一颗原子弹试爆的场景时不由得想起印度史诗《薄迦梵歌》中的这一句,而该书的书名正是由此而来.因此,这句话真正的原文应该是梵文才对.
《比一千个太阳还亮》的作者是奥地利记者Robert Jungk,原书是用德文写的,1956年出版,题为Heller als tausend Sonnen,后来在1958年首次被翻译成英文Brighter Than A Thousand Suns出版.在德文原版中,这句诗被写成：
“Wenn das Licht von tausend Sonnen
am Himmel plötzlich bräch' hervor,
Zu gleicher Zeit – das wäre
gleich dem Glanze dieses Herrlichen.”
而在1958年的英文版中,这句诗被翻译成：
“If the radiance of a thousand suns
were to burst into the sky,
that would be like
the splendor of the Mighty One.”
钟毅、何纬的中文翻译照此断为四句,而且他们是根据俄文版转译的,俄文版又是从英文版转译的,一共转了四手,结果就跟通常的《薄迦梵歌》译本不太一致.
这句诗原本的出处是《薄迦梵歌》第11章第12句,梵语原文是：
Divi sooryasahasrasya bhavedyugapadutthitaa;
Yadi bhaah sadrishee saa syaadbhaasastasya mahaatmanah.
英文翻译大同小异,有的译成
“Were the splendour of a thousand suns to shoot forth all at once in the sky,

中文通常的翻译是：

关于启示,一般认为分为一般启示和特殊启示,一般启示就是从上帝所创造的万物,了解到存在一位智慧的创造者,特殊启示是上帝直接向人显示自己的属性或旨意.
以实际例子来说,就象看一篇小说,通过阅读小说,观察其中的精密情节,就会知道作者的存在,这类似于一般启示,而作者亲自来与你见面,告诉你他的喜好,就类似于特殊启示.
神的特殊启示通过圣灵默示向人启示,圣经就是神对人的默示.可以将默示和特殊启示同等看待,虽然这两者还是有所区别的.
