Until recently scientists disagreed with sth = until recently scientists would have disapproved of sth
Until recently + [
Until recently I disagreed with eating apples
相当于 until recently I would have disapproved of eating apples.

以上2个都不是,就是在对应的段落找答案.according to the passage. 我一看到according to the passage.

according to the passage这种题也不要怕,

Passage 6
When I was about six years old,my mother came home one day and found that I had collected half a dozen babies of the neighborhood—all of them too young to walk—and had them sitting before me on the floor while I was teaching them to wave their arms. When she asked the explanation of this,I informed her that it was my school of dance. She was amused, and placing herself at the piano, she began to play for me.This school continued and became very popular.Later on,little girls of the neighborhood came and their parents paid me a small sum to teach them. This was the beginning of what afterwards proved a very lucrative occupation.
My mother took me to a famous ballet teacher, but his lessons did not please me.When the teacher told me to stand on my toes I asked him why,and when he replied “Because it is beautiful,” I said that it was ugly and against nature and after the third lesson I left his class, never to return. This stiff and commonplace gymnastics which he called dancing only disturbed my dream.I dreamed of a different dance.I did not know just what it would be,but I was feeling out towards an invisible world into which I guessed I might enter if I found the key.
My art was already in me when I was a little girl, and it was owing to the heroic and adventurous spirit of my mother that it was not stifled.I believe that whatever he child is going to do in life should be begun when it is very young.I wonder how many parents realize that by the so-called education they are giving their children, they are only driving them into the commonplace, and depriving them of any chance of doing anything beautiful or original.

A.was teaching half a dozen babies to dance
B.was teaching half a dozen babies to walk
C.was collecting babies of the neighborhood
D.was making babies of the neighborhood sit before her on the floor
2.The attitude of the narrator’s mother toward her school of dance was one of ________.
A.despise
B.contempt
C.support
D.indifference
3.The narrator thought that ballet was ________.
A.the most graceful dance
B.stiff,ugly and unnatural
C.a dance that she had dreamed of
D.an invisible world into which she guessed she might enter
4.According to the narrator, she owed her success in art to ________.
A.the good education her parents gave her
B.the support of her understanding and adventurous mother
C.her inborn talent
D.her ballet teacher
5.The central idea of the passage is that ________.
A.parents should try to discover the natural gift in their children and help to develop it while they are young
B.the so-called good education parents give their children only drives them into the commonplace and deprives them of any chance of doing anything original
C.mothers should be heroic and adventurous

Directions: Read the following passage.Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
In a society such as the United States or Canada, which has many national, religious and cultural differences, people highly value individualism—the differences among people. Teachers place a lot of importance on the qualities that make each student special. The educational systems in these countries show these values. Students do not memorize information. Instead, they work on their own and find answers themselves. There is often a discussion in the classroom. At an early age, students learn to form their own ideas and opinions.
In most Asian societies, by contrast, people have the same language, history and culture. Perhaps for this reason, the educational system in these Asian countries reflects society’s belief in group goals and purposes rather than individualism. Children in China, Japan and Korea often work together and help one another on assignments.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both of these systems of education. For example, one advantage of the system in Japan is that students there learn much more maths and science than American students learn by the end of high school. They also study more hours each day and more days each year than North Americans do. The system is difficult, but it prepares students for a society that values discipline and self-control. There is, however, a disadvantage. Memorization is an important learning method in Japanese schools, but many students say that after an exam, they forget much of the information they have memorized.
The advantage of educational system in North America, on the other hand, is that students learn to think for themselves. The system prepares them for a society that values creative ideas. There is, however, a disadvantage. When students graduate from high school, they haven’t memorized as much basic rules as students in other countries have.

Passage 1
The American economic system is organized around a basically private-enterprise,market-oriented economy in which consumers largely determine what shall be produced by spending their money in the marketplace for those goods and services that they want most.Private businessmen, striving to make profits, produce these goods and services in competition with other businessmen; and the profit motive, operating under competitive pressures, largely determines how these goods and services are produced. Thus,in the American economic system it is the demand of individual consumers, coupled with the desire of businessmen to maximize profits and the desire of individuals to maximize their incomes, that together determine what shall be produced and how resources are used to produce it.
An important factor in a market-oriented economy is the mechanism by which consumer demands can be expressed and responded to by producers. In the American economy, this mechanism is provided by a price system,a process in which prices rise and fall in response to relative demands of consumers and supplies offered by seller-producers.If the product is in short supply relative to the demand, the price will be bid up and some consumers will be eliminated from the market. If,on the other hand, producing more of a commodity results in reducing its cost, this will tend to increase the supply offered by seller-producers,which in turn will lower the price and permit more consumers to buy the product. Thus, price is the regulating mechanism in the American economic system.
The important factor in a private-enterprise economy is that individuals are allowed to own productive resources(private property),and they are permitted to hire labor, gain control over natural resources, and produce goods and services for sale at a profit. In the American economy, the concept of private property embraces not only the ownership of productive resources but also certain rights, including the right to determine the price of a product or to make a free contract with another private individual.
1.In Line 7,Para.1,“the desire of individuals to maximize their incomes” means .
〔A〕 Americans are never satisfied with their incomes
〔B〕 Americans tend to overstate their incomes
〔C〕 Americans want to have their incomes increased
〔D〕 Americans want to increase the purchasing power of their incomes
2.The first two sentences in the second paragraph tell us that .
〔A〕 producers can satisfy the consumers by mechanized production
〔B〕 consumers can express their demands through producers
〔C〕 producers decide the prices of products
〔D〕 supply and demand regulate prices

B

a little和little修饰不可数名词;a few和few修饰可数名词;word可数,排除A、C;few和little表示否定,“几乎没有”;a few和a little表示肯定,“一些,一点”;根据but表转折知,第二空用none“一个也没有”。故选B。

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that over 50,000 people every year sustain some sort of winter-related back injury, and 5,800 of those are holiday decorating-related. These aches and pains can __41__ bring trouble to people’s life. It is said that people’s back could sustain all sorts of strain from carrying heavy __42__ , and from the increased stress of lugging suitcases, decorations and gifts. Dr. Alanna Levine spoke to Debbye Turner Bell on “The Early Show” about how to protect the back for the holiday season.
The first tip Dr. Levine gave was about carrying heavy shopping bags. Smaller bags, she said, are better. “You don’t want to load everything up into one bag and lug it around,” Dr. Levine explained. “You want to __43__ the weight on your body.” She also recommended putting heavier items towards the bottom in those bags and lighter items on top. Also, if you can, make __44__ trips to the car to drop off purchases.
Travel can be another pain in the back — from carrying heavy luggage. Again, Dr. Levine __45__ not to pack everything into one bag. Even though it may cost more, she said that packing two smaller bags is safer than packing one heavy one. Also, choose a light-weight bag, so that the only weight you’re carrying is the __46__ inside the suitcase.
When __47__ bags from an airport carousel, Dr. Levine suggests standing close to the carousel and bending your knees to lift it up. “You want to avoid that reach-and-lift. It puts a lot of __48__ on your lower back,” she said.
When it comes to holiday decorating, people can get __49__. Dr. Levine suggests decorating in pairs, so one person can hand the lights and ornaments to the other person to hang, as to avoid reaching or twisting to get what you need.

Passage One
As I was leaving to meet Lynne,my roommate told me that I’d better take some money, but I didn’t listen to him.I thought that Lynne would pay because she had invited me.
I arrived at the restaurant exactly on time.I’d been told that Americans expect you to be on time.Lynne and I sat at a table in the corner of the restaurant and a waitress came and took our order.
The dinner was a great success.I talked a lot about Saudi Arabia(沙特阿拉伯)and Lynne told me all about herself. After two hours the waitress finally came and asked if we wanted one check or two.Lynne said two.We went to the cashier(收银员)and Lynne paid her check.I was embarrassed(尴尬的)when the cashier gave me my bill.I had no money to pay for my meal. Then I had an idea.I pretended to look for something in my pockets and said,“Oh!I forgot my money! Can I call my roommate, please?” The cashier showed me where the phone was and I quickly called my roommate.
In a few minutes he arrived with some money, but he couldn’t hide how he felt.He laughed all the way home.
Now,I think it’s funny too,but at the time I was terribly embarrassed.I thought that an invitation to have dinner meant the same thing in the United States as in my country.I guess you have to understand that your customs are only your customs. When you visit a foreign country, you have to learn about their customs, too.

C.close to each other D.very similar
