Dr. Norman Bethune 1922Henry Norman Bethune, MD (March 3, 1890 – November 12, 1939) was a Canadian physician, medical innovator, a member of the Communist Party of Canada, and humanitarian. In Chinese, he is known as "Bai Qiu-en" (白求恩).Dr. Bethune was born in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. His grandfather, Norman Bethune was also a noted Canadian physician and founder of one of the first medical schools in Toronto.After graduating from the University of Toronto as a doctor, Bethune moved to Montreal where he was associated with McGill University and taught thoracic surgery.
