Internet-Is it simply making our life better?

In modern world, internet has burst into our daily life. It is almost used everywhere: home, school and workplace. People tend to use it as a facility to study, work, communicate and entertain. The internet has definitely changed our life since it came into this world long ago. However it is not just as good as people think it is. The problem is, no matter how convenient the internet is, we can not control the information being spread all over it.

The most important advantage of using the internet is that people can share their information from everywhere and at anytime. That is, one person can upload a piece of music without any permission to an insecure website; the others can download it with out showing their identity or paying the actual money. Consider if you upload your personal photo to a friend searching website and someone download it and use it as a tool to make profit without your permission, will it be able for you to find out who did it and can you think of a way to solve the problem? The possibility of being anonymous makes it impossible to track. More terrible thing is that business loses millions of dollars because of information being stolen. As a result the internet does not always make our life better, it also has it"s own disadvantages. Not only in this case that I was talking about, but also in a lot of areas, for instance, the virus, uncontrolled violence and porn, and so on.

artical----pressure

people may have some pressure. Can it influence us?

Someone think a person who has some pressure can do extreme well in his field, they can turn the pressure into the force to go.So they do not inmention the pressure.

Rest of the people hate it so much, they said that they could not corcern on what they were doing .Their world were gray, even they don"t believed that they could do it better. The result is they failed in their work.

In fact, two sides are both right, the importance is how we think about the pressure.

Students at universities often have a choice of places to live. They may choose to live n university dormitories, or they may choose to live apartments in the community. Compare the advantages of living in university housing with the advantages of living in an apartment in the community. Where would you prefer to live? Give reasons for your preference.

I think it"s better for college students to live on-campus their first two years, and them move into an apartment off-campus life, while juniors and seniors need the independence of off-campus life. Students" need change over four years, so their housing should too.

Living on-campus makes it easier to get oriented to the way things are done. You get he whole university experience. Plus, you interact more with other students. This includes not only your roommates, but everyone in your dormitory. The older students in the dormitory can be a big help for the new students. Keeping up with studies your first year is hard enough. You shouldn"t have to worry about finding your way around and figuring out the university bureaucracy.

Living in the dormitory also makes a student feel more a part of the university community. There are more opportunities for becoming involved in university activities and networking with students and university administration.

Living off-campus, however, is a definite advantage for older students. Finding and apartment, dealing with leases and the landlord"s regulations, cooking meals, and figuring out budgets are all good practice for live after graduation. This kind of independence helps older students grow in adulthood.

Off-campus housing also gives students a better perspective on what‘s going on around them, campuses can be like little words of their own. There are few children or older people and everyone is focused on education. Getting to know neighbors who aren"t students is a good for students coming from different places. It"s a chance to find out what other people think and feel.

I think a combination of two years on-campus and two years off-campus is a winning combination for most students.

〈Pittsburgh—The city is our campus〉是匹兹堡大学官方网站上面的一句话,却也充分的透露出匹兹堡大学与这个城市互动的密切。 〈Pittsburgh—The city is our campus〉是匹兹堡大学官方网站上面的一句话,却也充分的透露出匹兹堡大学与这个城市互动的密切。 学术方面 根据该校官方网站引述〈The National Research Council,简称NRC〉统计出全美最值得受到重视的学术计划〈the most respected evaluator of academic programs in the United States〉的资料,匹兹堡大学在哲学〈The Department of Philosophy〉排名全美第二;在历史〈Department of History〉与科学哲学〈The Philosophy of Science〉排名全美第五。

Should the University Campus Be Open to Tourists? Nowadays, many famous university campuses have become one of the popular tourist attractions. It has been shown on TV that every year thousands upon thousands of middle school students visit Tsinghua University and Peking University and other famous universities in China. In the place far away from the capital city, the local students also visit the famous universities in their own provinces. So far as the present situation is concerned, is it a good or bad thing to open the university campus for tourists? Different people have their own opinions. On the one hand, some people argued that it is a good thing in that it can enable the middle school students to get more information about the university and they can have enough time and opportunity to prepare themselves with the chance to enter the university. On the other hand, some people hold a negative view about it.In their opinion, the public tourism will have negative effect on the universities because it will disturb the intellectual atmosphere. In my opinion, the tourism to the universities is not a good thing since the campus is mainly a place for study. With the increasing tourism on the campus, it will ruin the spiritual atmosphere in this learning field.

Reduce Wasting in the CampusesThere"s a topic that people more and more talk about. The topic is waste in the campuses. It"s ture, that waste is so serious in some campuses. For example, so many university students have droped half of their food. What has happened in our campuses are shocking.Waste does us much harm. On one hand, it shows that the students don"t respect other"s work at all; on the other hand, as in a developing country, we are not rich enough to afford such waste. Waste is harming the growing of the country"s economy. We should take some effective measures to solve this problem. We should save as much as possible. It"s necessary for us to stop people around us from wasting. If we can reduce waste in the campuses, we will benifit from it.

Fhe boys and the girls are all like flowers in spring. 大学英语作文我的一生 my life in university everyone, every high school student is looking forward to life in university. it seems that if you get into university, whichever one it is, you will surely lead a free and exciting life. i was one among this "everyone". but after i stepped onto the grounds of peking university, i began to realize that the atmosphere here is far from "throwing the damned homework behind!", on the contrary, petition is so fierce that one has to work as hard as in high school. that was what my life was like as a freshman. but things began to change after a year. i felt that now i should have a different life, not the same one as in high school. life depends on one"s own choices, so i decided to do something besides studying. therefore, last term, i applied for a volunteer job in the museum. the capital museum was short of guides for a special exhibition in which hundreds of wonderful items from british museums would be on show. they needed english speaking guides, and as i am an english major, and i am a nearly fluent speaker. so it was not difficult for me to get "employed"… after several weeks" preparation, that is. 43 pages of scripts in both chinese and english to memorize, i went to work. you can hardly imagine my nervousness when i faced the inquiring visitors. some of them were so hard to please that i almost felt humiliated. however, you know, you cannot always be your parents" baby, you cannot always be your teachers" favorite, and you will have to serve others in the future. what i can do is to perfect myself and leave no room for reproach. i am quite proud of this job even now. this term i was confronted with a dramatic change because i made a new friend. well, you may laugh, what"s the big deal about a new friend? how can he or she change my life dramatically? maybe it is because she tips the balance of my life, or rather, she brings something brand new into my life. she is a german girl. we met each other through a "mutual-help" program. my original intent was to improve my oral english, hers to learn chinese--both very practical and instrumental purposes. it sounds funny that i should find a non-native speaker for an english language partner. and i felt this way myself since my english speaking ability goes like a parabola: at first i could speak english more fluently, and then i found i had acquired a slight german aent. what a thing! however, as pensation, we both have made good new friends. i don"t know how we managed to bee so close, but i remember we didn"t try too hard (she often says that we are "fated"). i sometimes think there"s an unbridgeable gap beeen any o cultures. that may be true. but it shouldn"t be a serious obstacle for o peoples to be true and good friends. we talk just as we talk with our respective native girl friends. we tell each other a lot of interesting things. so we are often shocked by the one another"s experience and then burst into laughter. how cultures differ! what is mon in germany cannot help but be extraordinary in china, and vice versa. i also met lots of other german students through my friend. they were mostly friendly and talkative, and enthusiastic about chinese culture, which satisfies me and makes me and a little bit proud. what they ask about chinese language and culture often leaves me contemplative. never had i thought about such questions before. nor have i realized that chinese is so fantastic, and difficult to learn! we really should be happy that we were born chinese so that we don"t need to learn languages from outside. of course there are times when my friend and i have a difference in opinions. we diverge especially with regard to life-style. generally chinese students spend more time studying, while german (or western) students spend less. the former stay in the library, while the latter are drinking and having fun in s. the former think that they should work hard in order to win a place in a petitive society, while the latter think that they should have a rest after some intense work and enjoy life. i am a relatively traditional chinese person, which means i favor the former attitude; but my friend is doubtlessly leading the latter life. anyway, we won"t impose our own opinions on the other because we know that china and germany are o totally different societies. interestingly, one of the german boys once said, "we can expect that china will bee the superpower in the world while germany will decay after some time. why? because you are studying when we are drinking!" it is just a joke and he apparently has no intent to work harder in order to save germany from this supposed "decadence". My Father My father is a tall man with a pair of glasses. Small classes mean you"ll connect one-on-one with faculty and mentors and immerse yourself in a research culture that would be off-limits to all but a select few at a larger institution. That intimate, small-class experience also opens you up to the life-changing resources that are all over the city. Biology students may do work at the New York Botanical Garden (or at Fordham"s own Calder Center research station, not far from the Bronx.) Archaeology students may do research in Alaska and chemistry students at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. In recent years economics majors have done analysis for JPMorgan Chase & Co. And FCRH students in other fields have authored or co-authored pieces in dozens of academic journals and won scores of fellowships. 2. 3.Gabelli School of Business The breadth of a classic business education. And explore the art of building your own enterprise as part of our Business Week-ranked entrepreneurship program. 3. 4.School of Professional and Continuing Studies Fordham"s School of Professional and Continuing Studies was created specifically for adult students to complete their bachelor"s degree or begin their studies wherever they are in life. No one can deny the fact that a person"s education is the most important aspect of his life, we should not interrupt its quietness ,The reason why we have to make our campuses is that they can provide us with elits for society. Just like our old idioms says,While there is life, there is hope.So precious our campuses are,For a long run, we should not open the campus to public. However, some people think the advantage of making our campus open is that their special artical aura .For lack of distinct culture, some travelling places will not attract tourists any more.we should make it for all. Before giving my opinion, I think it is important to look at the arguments on both sides.each one is particial,in a nother word any one has its own advantages.i think No one can deny the basic fact that it is impossible for students to master make their study in a noisy campus .so i agree with the first important.education is the most important problem for our nation. We can"t get a better education ,we get nothing. In conclusion, we must take into account this problem rationally and place more emphases on the problem. This phenomenon should be given more concerns.but in any word the education is forever on the first place. "This site contains links to other Internet sites.

Xi"an, the historical city, was called Chang"an in ancient times, and is now the capital of Shaanxi province. Xi"an is situated in the center of Weihe Plain with the towering and verdant Mt. Qinling in the south, with the meandering and rolling Beishan mountain system in the north and eight rivers around it, all of which are at Guang Zhong Plain (the center of passes). Historically, it was famous for being called "a gold city stretching a thousand li" with its fertile soil, mild climate, adequate rainfall and rich products. Xi"an has a long history. Since the earliest societies, humanity lived and multiplied here. It served as a capital for twelve dynasties, including the Western Zhou, Qin, Western Han, Sui and Tang dynasties, spanning over 1120 years. It became the oriental cultural center of the Silk Road. Many dynasties kept the city beautiful and magnificent. More than two hundred and seventy palaces and temples, for example, were built in the Qin dynasty, in the Han dynasty the "Three Han Palaces", namely Changle, Weiyang, Jianzhang Palaces, and numerous other palaces and watch towers were built. In the City of Chang"an of the Sui and Tang dynasties, luxurious palaces sprang up like tree, of which Taiji, Daming and Xingqing Palaces and the forbidden garden of the Tang dynasty to the north of the town were very large. Now, from these architectural sites people still can imagine the general picture of what Chang"an City was like, then. All the emperors of the Qin, Han, Tang and other dynasties had their magnificent mausoleums built. Qin Shi Huang"s mausoleum at the foot of Lishan Hill in Lintong county, for example, is the earliest example of a grand mausoleum for an emperor in ancient China. The twelve emperors of the Western Han dynasty were mostly buried on the plateau to the north of the Weihe River. Their tomb-mounds were man-made and quite imposing, but emperors of the Tang dynasty began to have their bombs constructed into hills. They are scattered in the counties to the north of the Weihe River and called the "Eighteen Tang Mausoleums". In front of these mausoleums were erected huge stone carvings, while inside them were exquisite funeral objects and colorful murals, a feast for one"s eyes. Some of the monasteries and Buddhist pagodas constructed in many dynasties have remained well preserved, including the most famous ones, as the Big Wild Goose (Da Yan) Pagoda in Ci"en Temple and the Small Wild Goose (Xiao Yan) Pagoda in Jianfu Temple. The bronze wares of ancient China are an important example of the splendid culture that reflect this slave society. Feng and Hao in the Xi"an area, which were the capitals of the Western Zhou dynasty, have been acclaimed as "the Home of the Bronze wares", as a wealth of bronze items unearthed from there, over the years. It was quite popular to put up stone tablets in front of tombs to record the merits and achievements of the departed, in many dynasties, and a great deal of stone tablets and calligraphy data remain to this day. So Xi"an is also famous for being "the Home of Calligraphy".

Nowadays more and more lectures are held on college campuses. These lectures are usually on different topics, such as arts, life, psycology, the economy, world issues. Lectures have become an important part of college campus life. Undoubtedly college students have benefited a lot from various lectures. Above all, the lectures broaden the students knowledge horizon and cultivate their interest in different fields. Whats more, some lectures teach students practical knowledge and skills, such as how to make up and how to become self-confident. Besides, lectures make the life of college students colourful and enjoyable. With these merits, lectures are a good complement to required classes. However,if a student spends too much time attending lectures, his regular study might be affected. Therefore,in my opinion, college students should attend good lectures on condition that they do their class work as well.

From Walls to Bridges

大学获奖英语演讲稿:From Walls to Bridges   From Walls to Bridges   I"m studying in a city famous for its walls. All visitors to my city are amazed by the imposing sight of the city walls, silhouetted by the setting sun with gold and shining lines. With old, cracked bricks patched with lichen, the walls are weather-beaten guards, standing still for centuries in protecting the city.   Our ancestors liked to build walls. They built walls in Beijing, Xi"an, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the Great Wall, which snakes through half of our country. They built walls to ward off enemies and evil spirits. This tradition has been maintained to this day as we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public. I grew up at the foot of the city walls, and I"ve loved them since my childhood. For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world.   My perception, however, changed after a hiking trip to the Eastern Suburbs, a scenic area of my city. My classmates and I were walking with some international students. As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by taller and taller trees, which formed a huge canopy above our heads. Suddenly an international student asked me, "Where is the entrance to the Eastern Suburbs?"   "We"re already in the Eastern Suburbs," I replied.   He seemed taken aback, "I thought you Chinese have walls for everything." His remark set off a heated debate. At one point, he likened our walled cities to "jails," while I insisted that the Eastern Suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls.   That debate had no winners, but I did learn a lot from this international student. For instance, he told me that universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls; the campuses were just part of the cities. I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we are developing our country, we must carefully examine them, whether they are physical or intangible. We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede China"s development.   Let me give you an example.   A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian turned down my request with a cold shoulder, saying, "You can"t borrow this book, you are not a student here." In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan buying a copy; meanwhile, the copy in law school was gathering dust on the shelf.   At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university has started not only to unify its libraries but also link them up with libraries of other universities, so my experience will not be repeated. Barriers will be replaced by bridges. Through an inter-library loan system, we will have access to books from any library. With globalization, with China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.   I know globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China"s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their roles in the modern world.   And how about the ancient walls in my city and other cities? Should we tear them down? Just the opposite. My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. These walls attract not only historians and archeologists but also many schoolchildren trying to study our history and cultural heritage. Walls have turned into bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great change in the role of their walls. They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization. ;

以life in the first year of college为标题写个作文 谢谢了 着急用

Transitioning from living with your parents and going to a local high school to branching out on your own at college can be difficult. For many college freshmen, adjusting to life away from home at a university full of new people can be quite a daunting task. Insecurities can arise for any new college student, but there are ways to combat feelings of loneliness or culture shock.step1 Before you depart from your hometown or place of living, throw a going away party. By celebrating your move to college instead of worrying about it, you"ll be much more likely to accept it. Invite old friends and give each other photos, memory books or small gifts to remember them by when you"re away at school. Step2 Write your new roommates. Though your college may not give out email addresses, they usually give you the names and postal addresses of your future roomies. Write them, describe yourself, and give them your MySpace name or instant messaging screen name. The closer you feel to a new roommate before the big move-in day, the better. Step3 Visit your college and go to an open house. Go on a campus tour. Learn as much as you can about activities, sports, social events and other student-oriented information. You"ll often be able to speak with current students to get their firsthand account of the school you will be attending. Step4 Pack everything you need in advance. Be sure to include necessities like bedding, bath products and clothes, but include some personal items. Bring along a television, posters, photographs of friends and that stuffed animal your boyfriend won for you two years ago. The more your dorm feels like home, the more comfortable you"ll feel. Step5 Introduce yourself to any and everyone in your dorm hall or floor. A new friend may be right around the corner from you: literally. Attend first night events and go to welcome barbecues. These activities are designed to introduce fellow students you may be spending the next four years with. Step6 Before your first day of classes, print out a virtual map or go on a campus walk-through. Grab some new friends and look for your classrooms together before the day of the actual classes. University campuses are often large, spread out and entirely menacing your first day of classes. Know where you"re going beforehand. Step7 Sign up for a meal plan if you need room and board. Your first year as a college student can be life-altering both mentally and emotionally. You"ll need all the time you can get to study, meet new friends, and become an active member of your college community. The last thing you is to worry about your next meal. Step8Find out what special activities your college offers. Universities tend to make their campuses pseudo-countries. You"ll probably find a bank, health care center, gym and countless other amenities right on property. Join a fitness class or self-defense course. Sign up for a charity event or take a stress management class. The more involved you are, the better you"ll adjust to college life. Step9Attend your classes. Though you may have more freedom to skip a class than you did in high school, it"s best to always go to class. College professors don"t chase after students the way they did in school. If you don"t attend, you"ll miss important information which can hurt you on an exam or paper. Some colleges even have attendance policies, with a certain amount of absences result in class failure. Step10Always surround yourself with people you can trust. College freshmen are often the targets of upperclassmen that want to pull pranks or take advantage of their vulnerability. Have a core group you socialize with on a regular basis.

(All About Earthday)

By Senator Gaylord Nelson, Founder of Earth Day What was the purpose of Earth Day? How did it start? These are the questions I am most frequently asked. Actually, the idea for Earth Day evolved over a period of seven years starting in 1962. For several years, it had been troubling me that the state of our environment was simply a non-issue in the politics of the country. Finally, in November 1962, an idea occurred to me that was, I thought, a virtual cinch to put the environment into the political "limelight"(引人注目的中心) once and for all. The idea was to persuade President Kennedy to give visibility to this issue by going on a national conservation tour. I flew to Washington to discuss the proposal with Attorney General(司法部长) Robert Kennedy, who liked the idea. So did the President. The President began his five-day, eleven-state conservation tour in September 1963. For many reasons the tour did not succeed in putting the issue onto the national political agenda(议程)。However, it was the germ of the idea that ultimately flowered into Earth Day. I continued to speak on environmental issues to a variety of audiences in some twenty-five states. All across the country, evidence of environmental degradation(退化) was appearing everywhere, and everyone noticed except the political establishment. The environmental issue simply was not to be found on the nation"s political agenda. The people were concerned, but the politicians were not. After President Kennedy"s tour, I still hoped for some idea that would thrust the environment into the political mainstream. Six years would pass before the idea that became Earth Day occurred to me while on a conservation speaking tour out West in the summer of 1969. At the time, anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, called "teach-ins(研讨会)," had spread to college campuses all across the nation. Suddenly, the idea occurred to me - why not organize a huge grassroots(草根阶层,平民) protest over what was happening to our environment? I was satisfied that if we could tap into the environmental concerns of the general public and infuse the student anti-war energy into the environmental cause, we could generate a demonstration that would force this issue onto the political agenda. It was a big gamble(赌博), but worth a try. At a conference in Seattle in September 1969, I announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment and invited everyone to participate. The wire services(通讯社) carried the story from coast to coast. The response was electric. It took off like gangbusters(侦破团伙者). Telegrams, letters, and telephone inquiries poured in from all across the country. The American people finally had a forum(论坛)to express its concern about what was happening to the land, rivers, lakes, and air - and they did so with spectacular exuberance(活跃的). For the next four months, two members of my Senate staff, Linda Billings and John Heritage, managed Earth Day affairs out of my Senate office. Five months before Earth Day, on Sunday, November 30, 1969, The New York Times carried a lengthy article by Gladwin Hill reporting on the astonishing proliferation(增殖) of environmental events: 1969年的11月30日,在离地球日还有5个月的一个星期天,《纽约时报》登载了格拉迪温.希尔的一篇长文,文章报道了令人震惊的环境问题的增长: "Rising concern about the environmental crisis is sweeping the nation"s campuses with an intensity that may be on its way to eclipsing(月蚀,使黯然失色) student discontent over the war in Vietnam…a national day of observance of environmental problems…is being planned for next spring…when a nationwide environmental "teach-in"…coordinated from the office of Senator Gaylord Nelson is planned…." It was obvious that we were headed for a spectacular success on Earth Day. It was also obvious that grassroots activities had ballooned(气球般膨胀) beyond the capacity of my U.S. Senate office staff to keep up with the telephone calls, paper work, inquiries, etc. In mid-January, three months before Earth Day, John Gardner, Founder of Common Cause, provided temporary space for a Washington, D.C. headquarters. I staffed the office with college students and selected Denis Hayes as coordinator of activities. Earth Day worked because of the spontaneous(自发的) response at the grassroots level. We had neither the time nor resources to organize 20 million demonstrators and the thousands of schools and local communities that participated. That was the remarkable thing about Earth Day. It organized itself.

I had spent days and nights in labs and dorms putting all the tiny radio parts together. Another “Not For Sale” item is my pile of China Daily newspapers.

1 Advantages and Disadvantages of the Mobile Phone With the rapid economic development, the mobile phone has found its way into campuses and a host of students take advantage of this wonderful gadget to communicate with each other. This phenomenon gives rise to this question:What are the advantages and disadvantages of the mobile phone? It is widely believed that it greatly facilitates students" campus life. Many instances could be found to support this type of opinion. A graduating student in our university bought a mobile phone in the course of hunting for his job. He told me that through the mobile phone he could easily keep in touch with the employer of the company he intends to work with and would not miss any opportunities. However, everything has both positive and negative facets. The mobile phone also has many disadvantages. For instance, the ringing of the mobile phone often disturbs the teacher"s teaching and other students" learning. Personally, the advantages of the mobile phone outweigh the disadvantages of it as long as we don"t interfere with others while using it. 2 Nowadays, with the rapid development of our society, especially the IT and information industry, cell phones are accessible and they play a dominant role in our daily life, which greatly facilitate our lives. Firstly, it"s very useful and convenient. As a wireless mobile phone, it can be easy to carry and make people reach others and be reached immediately, without considering the location. Secondly, it"s also a perfect recreational tool. With the progress of science and technology, cell phones are much more powerful than ever. With them, people not only can make a phone call, send SMS, but also can play games and search the internet, even do shopping. Furthermore, when you are in trouble, the handy cell phone is an effective way to help you. However, some people argue that the mobile phones bring some negative impacts to people"s lives as well as convenience. Firstly, to a certain extent, the mobile phones will affect interpersonal relationships. If you constantly fiddle with your mobile phone when you"re communicating with your friends or families, the mobile phone will make dialogue delay to make others feel that you lack of sincerity and even likely to cause conflict. Secondly, mobile phones will narrow the circle of life by making the traditional social models, such as family gatherings, school reunions, less important. Because mobile phones occupy too much of our time and attention, and force us to focus on them. Last but not the least, mobile phones are harmful to our health. To sum up, moblie phones as a tool to faciliate our lives, we should use them appropriately to make convenience and reduce their negative impacts.

据了解,申请墨尔本大学工程学院MasterofBiomedicalEngineering(生物医学硕士)和MasterofEngineeringStructures(工程结构硕士)的优秀学生,工程学院将提供一定名额的学费全免和学费减半的奖学金。 2.
