中国古人用什么洗头洗澡？古代人洗头发的有皂角或者猪苓。猪苓是富裕些的人才用的，猪苓里加了些香料，用后会有比较浓郁的香气。平常人就用皂角洗头发。 查了一下资料，发现古代人比我们想象中要卫生的多，秦汉时，已形成了三日一洗头、五日一沐浴的习惯。以至于官府每五天给的一天假，也被称为“休沐”。 《海录碎事 臣职 官僚》记载“汉律，五日一赐休沐，得以归休沐出谒。” 古人也用胰子，澡豆洗澡。唐朝的胰子兼有冻疮膏的作用。高档一点的称为“面药”和“口脂”，用来涂脸和嘴。宫中在冬天会发给官员。杜甫《腊日》中有“口 脂面药随恩泽，翠管银罂下九霄。”说的就是这种情况。敢情冬令劳保用品古代也有发。 古人洗衣服用草木灰和皂角。洗头用淘米水，称这潘。如《左传 哀公十四年》，中有“合疾而遗之潘汁。” 摘了一段，如下文，如果有兴趣的可以看看。 浴史溯源 一、 先秦沐浴礼仪的形成 沐浴，就是今日通常所说的洗澡，包括头、身、手、脚的洗浴。然而古人却分得极细，东汉许慎《说文解字》云： 沐，濯发也。 浴，洒身也。 洗，洒足也。 澡，洒手也。 所谓“濯”、“洒”就是洗的意思。据此看来，古代的沐浴与今日的洗澡的意义并不完全吻合，而只有把许慎对“沐”、“浴”、“洗”、“澡”的解释合起来， 才是完全意义上的今日洗澡。 初民们当时沐浴只有下河一洗。随着社会的发展，人们逐渐养成了沐浴的生活习惯，至迟在商周时期的甲骨文和金文中都有“沐浴”的记载。沐，字形像双手掬盆 水沐发状，会意为沐，是洗发之义；浴，字形像人置身于器皿中，并在人的两边加沙锅内水滴，会意为浴，是洗澡的意思。而用来沐浴的器皿有青铜器鉴，《说文 解字》云：“鉴，大盆也，”盛水用作洗器，《庄子·则阳》有“灵公有妻三人，同鉴而浴”的记载。在铜镜尚未问世时，古人常以鉴盛水照容貌，甲骨 文“监”（监、鉴为古今同字）像人俯身就皿照容之形。从“盈”字字形看，像人浴身于浴器中，与“浴” 字字形相近，稍不同的地方仅是“盈”字的浴器 中“见足明示裸浴”（康殷《古文字源流浅说》）。“盈” 字字形则向人们展示了先秦人用浴器沐浴的情景。 到了西周时期，沐浴礼仪逐渐形成定制。由于沐浴已经深入到社会方方面面，人们对沐浴有了深层次的理解，不仅仅把沐浴单纯地看做洁身净体，润肤养身；而视 为隆重礼仪的先秦。祀神祭祖之前都要沐浴净身，这已是个定法，表示内心洁净虔诚，称之戒，亦称斋戒。斋戒之礼始于殷商，至西周已成定制，西周的戒礼十分 隆重和考究，每逢重大的祭祀活动前要进行两次斋戒，第一次在祭前十日或三日举行叫戒，第二次在祭前三日或一日进行叫宿，均由专职官员主持一定的仪式，要 求与祭者禁食荤腥，并沐浴净身，以示对神灵的肃敬。斋戒沐浴已是西周朝廷祭祀礼仪的重要组成部分，由专职官员执掌。这在《周礼》中均有记载。 沐浴与人们生活的行为规范密切联系在一起。《礼记·内则》载：“男女夙兴，沐浴衣服，具视朔食。”居家过日子，男女要早起，沐浴更衣。作为夫妇之礼则 有“不敢共湢浴”，妻子不能和丈夫共用一个浴室，所谓“外内不共井，不共湢浴”。在家庭里还有尊老礼节，“五日则镡汤请浴，三日具浴。其间面垢，镡 tan潘请缋hui;足垢，镡汤请洗”。礼节规定，晚辈要五天烧一次温水为父母洗一次澡，每三天烧一次温水为父母洗一次头。这期间父母脸上如果脏了，要 烧淘米水为父母洗干净；脚脏了，则用温水为父母洗干净。诞生礼仪中沐浴亦很重要，《礼记·内则》载：“世子生，则君沐浴，朝服，夫人亦如之。”又 载：“公庶子生，就侧室，三月之末，其母沐浴，朝服见于君。”太子出生，国君和夫人要沐浴穿朝服去朝见国君。载往来礼节中，沐浴亦是重要礼仪。《礼仪· 聘礼》载：“管人为客，三日具浴，五日具浴。”又载：“飧不致，宾不拜，沐浴而食之。”管人接待来客，要满足客人三天洗一次头，五天洗一次澡的要求，主 人用飧礼招待来宾时，来宾不用拜谢，但要沐浴之后再就食，以表示对主人的尊重。《礼记·玉澡》还规定“君子之居恒当户”，“日五盥，沐稷而缋hui 梁，”“居外寝，沐浴。” 《礼仪·士虞礼》规定，举行虞礼祭前，参加祭祀的人要先洗头洗澡，所谓“虞，沐浴”。虞即虞礼，于日中致祭，以安死者魂魄的 祭礼，是为虞礼。 周制，诸侯朝见天子，天子赐以王畿以内的供沐浴的封邑，叫做“汤沐邑”。《礼仪·王制》云：：“方伯为朝天子，皆又汤沐之邑于天子之县内。”诸侯要再专 供沐浴的封邑先洗头洗澡，然后才能去朝见天子，沐浴洁身以示对天子的尊重。一生以克己复礼为己任的孔子，对沐浴之礼身体力行，“孔子沐浴而朝”，早已为 世人所熟知。 先秦沐浴礼仪的形成并臻完备，正是沐浴深入到社会、深入到生活的方方面面的总结,作为定制为世人所遵循,这在世界沐浴史上也是独一无二的,注重沐浴也是 中国人的古老传统。 二、秦汉皇帝沐浴异闻 秦国嬴政统一中国，开创了我国统一的封建专制主义中央集权的国家，自称始皇帝。当时陕西临潼县骊山有温泉，秦始皇在咸阳建都以后，便在骊山广修殿宇，砌 石成池，赐名“骊山汤“，浴室骊山温泉成了秦始皇的御洗之地。 据《太平御览》卷七一引《辛氏三秦记》载，相传秦始皇有一天来到骊山洗浴，见到一位美女在那苍翠清幽的泉边亭亭玉立，美貌异常，便顿生淫心，不顾礼节， 上前去调戏。美女被激怒了，张口向秦始皇吐唾沫反击，秦始皇立刻身上生疮，流血淌浓，疼痛难熬。秦始皇这才知道这是一位神女，吓得惊惶失措，向神女百般 告饶，祈求宽恕。神女用温泉水给他洗涤，治愈了病疮。所以骊山温泉又名“神女汤”这个传说颇有意思，神女惩罚了不可一世的秦始皇，当他知过谢罪后，又用 温泉洗愈了他的病疮。这说明骊山温泉具有“吞肿去毒”的医疗功能，故到《辛氏三秦记》云：“后人因洗浴”。早在秦代人们就认识到骊山温泉的这一功能，纷 纷来温泉洗浴疗疾。这个传说也说明秦始皇十分喜欢沐浴这一事实。 秦代传闻于后世最著名的宫殿是阿房宫。阿房宫中筑有水道，将渭水、樊水引入宫中，而宫人洗浴之后的脂粉水，又通过水道流出宫，以致使渭水河面上浮起一层 垢腻。由此可以想见阿房宫中又许多沐浴设施，专供嫔妃洗浴，而这些沐浴设施又是经过精心设计的，既可吸纳河水，又能经过循环排出污水，甚至有过滤渭水、 樊水的设施，使其昼夜不舍，汩汩流淌。阿房宫中的沐浴设施可谓奇巧，杜牧的描述虽不免有文学的虚词夸饰，但自立行间仍有真实的历史遗影，可以视为阿房宫 中盛行沐浴的例证。 进入西汉，汉武帝刘彻在历史上亦留下与沐浴相关的记载，自先秦以来，有临河祓禊的习俗，即暮春三月到河中洗浴亦祓除不祥，去病消灾。此俗在汉代十分流 行，汉武帝曾经常临河参加祓禊活动，在霸水洗浴以去不祥祈子。 古人举行重大祭祀前，与祭者为表示对神灵的敬惧，都要沐浴净身，否则就会亵渎神灵，据《益都耆旧传》载，有一年，汉武帝到甘泉宫去祭祀，时任侍中的蜀人 张宽随同前往。一行人马走到渭桥时，汉武帝突然发现载桥下的水中有个女人载洗澡，奇怪的是，那女人的乳房非常之大，足有七尺长。汉武帝十分诧异，便派人 去询问。那女人说：“皇帝后面第七辆车上的人，知道我的来历。”当时，张宽坐在第七辆车上，汉武帝又让人去问。张宽回答说：“她是天星，主管祭祀，祭祀 者如果斋戒不洁净，长乳女人就会出现。”所谓斋戒，就是要求祭祀者在祭祀之前禁食荤腥，并沐浴净身。很显然，主管祭祀的天星是负责监督祭祀者斋戒的，天 神深恶斋戒不清洁，“每斋即降而视之”。按张宽的解释，天上主管祭祀的天星肯定是发现祭祀者斋戒不洁净，才幻形长乳女人在渭水河中洗澡，以告诫祭祀者要 认真地沐浴净身，否则不仅不能免灾获福，恐怕还要获罪。经历此事后，想必汉武帝再参加祭祀活动，一定会认认真真地沐浴净身了。 秦汉之际，全社会性的沐浴习俗已经形成，尤其是《礼仪·聘礼》所载的“三日具沐，五日具浴”的良俗，在汉代已经正式以“休沐”的形式被法律固定下来。所 谓“休沐”是汉代朝廷官员法定的假期。《汉宫仪》云：“五日以假洗沐，亦曰休沐。”《初学记》云：“汉律：吏五日一下沐，言休息以洗沐也。”《汉书·霍 光传》载：“光时休沐出。”王光谦补注云：“《通鉴》胡注：汉制，中朝官五日一下里舍休沐。”汉代皇帝每五日给官吏放假一天让他们回家去洗澡浣衣，并作 为法定的假日被固定下来，这是我国历史上第一次以沐浴为理由而制定的假日，足见汉代非常重视仪容河体肤整洁，朝廷内外，上上下下都有着经常沐浴的良好习 惯。 到了唐代，“五日一下沐”才改为官吏每十天休息洗浴一次，叫作：“休浣”。俗以每月上旬、中旬、下旬为上瀚、中瀚、下瀚，瀚即浣的异体字，本意是洗濯， 大概因为十天一浣的缘故，浣又有了一种计时的意义，一浣为十天，所以唐代制度十天一休沐有休浣之名。 三、魏晋南北朝贵族沐浴奇习 贵族作为上层社会的代表者，需要整洁的外表仪容与其赫赫声威相匹配。《南史·梁本纪下》记载南朝梁简文帝萧纲对沐浴格外钟爱，还专门撰写梁三卷《沐浴 经》，大力倡导沐浴，可称是中国最早的沐浴专著。为此在当时洗头洗澡成为人们日常清洁卫生的生活环节。自先秦以来就已形成三日一洗头、五日一沐浴的生活 习俗，古人洗头如此之勤是有原因的，因为古代无论男女均束发覆巾，容易积累尘腻，所以必须勤洗头。 晋元帝司马睿和太子司马绍父子之间有一段有关洗头的对话十分有意思。史称“性至孝”的太子司马绍听说父皇洗头，专门上启表示祝福，因为“吉日沐头，老寿 多宜”。而晋元帝的回答是头上“大垢臭”，故而要好好洗一洗。看来一头长发要洗一洗也是很费劲的，司马绍又说，听说洗头洗了很久，想必十分疲劳，不知父 皇龙体如何。晋元帝回答：洗去垢腻感觉特别好，身子一点不感到疲乏。洗头舒服，溢于言表。 《礼记·玉澡》曾对洗澡规定了一套程序，沐浴出水后，要分用干净的精、粗两巾擦拭身子，然后再用热水淋身，披上专门的布衣，以俟身燥，其间还要喝一些饮 料，以止口渴。这样的沐浴至少是中产以上的人家才可以为之，应该说是为贵族沐浴所定的程序，贫苦百姓是无法享受的。古人还有沐浴必更衣的习俗，《楚辞· 渔父》云：“新沐者必弹冠，新浴者必更衣。”晋代贵族已将沐浴作为个人清洁卫生的一个重要内容，遵循古俗沐浴必更衣。南朝宋人刘义庆《世说新语·贤媛》 载，车骑将军桓冲喜欢沐浴，因其节俭不爱穿新衣。一次桓冲沐浴后，祈自故意送新衣给他。桓冲生气地催促拿走，其妻说：“没有新衣，哪来的旧衣。”桓冲听 罢大笑，便穿上了新衣。桓冲沐浴，其妻送衣，且不论新衣旧衣，当时人洗完澡必要换衣服，换上干净衣服自然舒服多了。 然而，魏晋南北朝是一个人性张扬的时代，诚如唐人杜牧《润州》诗中所说：“大抵南朝皆旷达，可怜东晋最风流。”在这样的时代里，不同的人对待沐浴各有不 同的态度，一是不好沐浴，一是沐浴成癖，走向极端。 南朝济阴冤句人卞彬，是个恃才傲物的人，但卞彬由于“澡刷不谨，浣沐失时”，导致身上虱虫极多，尽管淫痒难忍，但他仍然不沐浴，并声称也可以安然无恙地 生存下去。 饥要食，困欲眠，污垢需清洗，这是作为文明人都会有的生活内容，只有经常沐浴，才能使人清洁卫生。而南朝齐人何佟之却又沐浴成癖。何佟之出身于名门贵 族，师心独学，强力专精，手不辍卷，读礼论三百余篇，略皆上口。在历史上何佟之除了才高出名外，要让他大出风头的是他有沐浴癖，史书称其为人性好洁，往 往一天之内，要洗浴十几次，几乎是成天不停地洗浴还觉得不够。由于何佟之一日十几洗，时人送给他一个响当当地外号叫“水淫”。沐浴净身，讲究清洁卫生， 本是个良好地生活习惯，然而，何佟之似乎有些过分，一天洗十几次澡，这样的人世上确实罕见，故而，唐人李延寿撰写《南史》为何佟之作传时，就突出地写了 何佟之地沐浴癖。这一点确实让何佟之出尽了风头，明人李贽、冯梦龙在其著作中都大谈何佟之洗浴。 四、隋唐皇家爱洗温泉浴 古人很早就流行洗温泉浴，但温泉浴地盛行是在唐代，由于皇帝酷爱洗温泉浴，所以，人们一提起温泉浴，就想到唐代著名的华清池。 陕西骊山温泉，在秦代就有“神女汤”的美名，自秦以后，千城万国之民接踵而来洗温泉浴。唐太宗贞观十八年，在骊山建起“汤浴宫”；天宝六年，唐玄宗大兴 土木，再行扩建，将泉池纳入豪华的宫殿内，改称为“华清宫”，因为宫殿再泉池之上，所以又名“华清池”，专为帝王所享用。华清池分为九龙汤和芙蓉池，九 龙汤专供皇帝御洗，芙蓉池专供杨贵妃沐浴，后来亦称为“贵妃池”，并设有专人管理，《旧唐书·职官志三》云：“温泉监掌汤池官禁之事”，这温泉监一官就 是专门负责皇家汤池事务的专职官员。考古工作者在唐代华清宫御汤遗址内发掘出莲花汤、海棠汤、星辰汤、太子汤、尚食汤等五处汤池遗址。这就映证了五代王 仁裕《开元天宝遗事·长汤十六所》的记载：“华清宫中除供奉两汤外，而别更有长汤十六所，嫔御之类浴焉。”清人史梦兰《全史宫词》亦云： 雨过华清树影凉，风来前殿玉龟香。 至尊浴罢金舆出，嫔御分寻十六汤。 可见当时华清宫内温泉浴之多，正是华清宫的鼎盛时期。 唐代皇帝从唐太宗开始，大多喜欢温泉浴，唐高宗李治有《过温汤》诗。唐中宗李显景龙三年十二月驾临新丰温宫，赐浴汤池，大臣们还纷纷献诗，上官婉儿也赋 绝句三首进献，名为《驾幸新丰温泉宫，献诗三首》。而唐玄宗李隆基身体力行，罢温泉浴推向极盛。唐玄宗每年十月要偕杨贵妃到华清宫过冬，沐浴嬉乐，尽情 享受温泉浴的乐趣。 当时古都西安四周有不少温泉，其中最为著名的是骊山汤、石门汤和凤泉汤。骊山温泉成了皇上的御洗之地，凤泉汤也是皇上常去之地，唐玄宗在《幸凤泉汤》诗 中抒发“愿将无限泽，沾沐众心同。”而位于蓝田汤峪河口西侧的石门汤，虽然唐玄宗未能驾临，然而他却十分关心，特赐名“大兴汤院”，并以水温高低开辟玉 女、融雪、连珠、濑玉和濯缨五个汤池。当时，长安各阶层人士前往沐浴，盛极一时。 对于温泉的疗疾养生作用，唐玄宗亦多有认识，他常泡华清宫温泉，在《惟此温泉是称愈疾，岂予独受其福，思与兆人共之，乘暇巡游，乃言其志》一诗中 云： 桂殿与山连，兰汤涌自然。 阴崖含秀色，温谷吐潺瑗yuan。 绩为蠲邪著，功因养正宣。 愿言将亿兆，同此共昌延。 五、宋元士大夫酷好沐浴 史学家们认为，大约在宋元时，随着城市的发展和商业经济的繁荣，城市中出现公共澡堂，而一般人家建房都设有浴室，沐浴就更为普及，就连客人远道而来，主 人相迎也要先设香汤给客人沐浴，再摆筵席招待，名曰洗尘。文人士大夫更是酷好沐浴，这在文人笔记中多有记录。 宋元士大夫沐浴形式多样，像身居高位，官至太傅的杨戬自己在家中建有专门的浴池，颇类似今日有钱人家的 家庭游泳池。 杨戬是宋徽宗时的宠臣，权倾一时，他建一豪华大池，喜欢独自一人入池沐浴，不过他的沐浴与游泳似乎是合为一体的，看来他是很会享受。在杨戬之前，权贵建 有这种私人游泳池的不乏其人，《新五代史·雷满传》载，唐末朗州雷满在自己府中开凿了一个很深的池子，有客人来访，就在池边设宴，酒酣之际，将酒杯扔进 池中，然后赤身裸体入水摸取酒杯，在水中嬉戏够了，才出水穿衣再饮酒。雷满建池主要是为了嬉水寻欢，而杨戬则主要是沐浴，因为他每入池，必命人再池上放 置沐浴用的“浴具及澡豆”。游泳只是沐浴时的一种娱乐享受。 宋元公共浴堂非常普及，已经形成了一定规模的形业。一些文人士大夫还相约定时到公共浴堂去沐浴。 王安石不好洗沐，身上长虱，在历史上是出了名的。他的联姻好友吴充却对沐浴的重要性有足够的认识，并养成了经常沐浴的良好习惯，他为了改变王安石不好沐 浴的不良习惯，便与王安石、韩维三人相约“每一两月即相率洗沐定力院家”，由于三人有约定，三人一起去公共浴堂沐浴更换新衣，在这种约束下，王安石不得 不去沐浴，出浴后见新衣也就更换。这让王安石一改旧习，个人卫生有了很大的改观。 苏轼亦喜好上公共浴堂沐浴，有一年，他在公共浴堂沐浴后，身心畅快，诗兴大发，专门写了二首《如梦令》词记述他沐浴的感受，写得非常诙谐，其一云： 水垢何曾相爱，细看两俱无有。寄语揩背人，尽日劳君挥肘。轻手，轻手，居士本来无垢。 其二云： 自净方能净彼，我自汗流呵气。寄语澡浴人，且共肉身游戏。但洗，但洗，俯为人间一切。 从词中可看到当时的公共浴堂服务完善，还专门设有为顾客服务的揩背人，从揩背服务可以看出，宋代开启了许多失学家所认为的“近代生活习俗的先河”。自宋 至今，公共浴堂（如今日的桑拿浴）都有专门为顾客而设的揩背服务。 由于士大夫已经养成经常沐浴的生活习惯，对那些不好沐浴的士大夫，人们嗤之以鼻。窦元宾虽出身宰相之家，又有才华，但只因他总是长时间不沐浴，世人送给 他一个“臭”字，“窦臭”，不仅在当时光为人之，成为一个不太光彩的“绰号“，而且后世亦把他当作不好沐浴的典型加以嘲讽。 温泉的开辟利用由来已久。内蒙古东南部经棚镇东北32公里处有一处温泉，名叫克什克腾阿日山，俗称热水汤，据《热河经棚志》载，热水汤为经棚十二景之 一，每逢春暖花开时，人们纷纷来此沐浴治病健身，人来人往，络绎不绝。宋人王桓路经此地洗了各温泉浴，并写下《宜浴温泉》诗云： 上方新浴觉身轻，恰喜温和水一泓。 膏泽不因人世热，此泉尤是在山青。 沐浴不仅使人感到一身轻松，而且洗出诗兴来，可见王桓对温泉浴的偏爱。 福州温泉在北宋嘉佑年间就已被广泛开发利用，全盛时期共有大小浴室四十多家，分为官汤和民汤。宋代民族英雄李纲不仅入汤沐浴，还赋诗赞曰： 玉池金屋浴兰芳，千古清华第一汤。 何似此泉浇病叟，不妨更入荔枝乡。 北宋彭应求于景德年间赴推官任途中借宿重庆北温泉的温泉寺，享受温泉浴后，赋有《宿温泉佛寺》诗。理学家周敦颐于嘉佑元年舟走温塘峡，到北温泉讲学、沐 浴，又为彭应求诗作序，书刻了《周敦颐彭推官谕州宿温泉寺诗序》石碑。朱熹在庐山温泉沐浴后，曾探讨庐山温泉的成因：“谁点丹黄燃，？此山池水？”他对 此感到无法解释。从这些记载均可见宋元士大夫们喜欢温泉浴甚过一般人。 元人郑元佑《遂昌杂录》记载说，元代著名禅师温日观与大书法家鲜于枢的父亲是挚交好友，鲜于父子喜欢沐浴，家中不仅设有浴室，还有上等的浴具和澡豆。温 日观每次来到鲜于家，鲜于父子必具汤请他沐浴，鲜于枢还恭敬地呈上澡豆。正是这个缘故，温日观成了鲜于家的常客。 宋元时士大夫爱好沐浴已蔚然成风，表明当时个人非常讲究清洁卫生，并且把沐浴当作一种享受，为的是保持身心健康。 六、明清市民沐浴笑话 明清时期，沐浴真正深入人们生活之中。随着城市的进一步发展，市民阶层的逐渐壮大，各种服务行业也日渐兴盛，城市中普遍出现“混堂”，大概是入浴之人不 分高低贵贱，“混”而洗之的意思，不管什么样的人，只要交上钱，就可入得浴池泡澡。当时得人们对沐浴较之以往更加讲究，明人屠本畯曾将“澡身”与“赏古 玩”、“亵名香”、“诵明言”相提并论，视为一种精神享受。清人石成金则把“剃头、取耳、浴身、修脚”当作人身四快事，认为只有让自己身体爽快，才是一 种真福。并在《快乐原》中说到“沐浴之乐”云：“冬月严寒，不可频浴。其余三季，俱当频浴。须要温水和暖，反复淋洗，遍身清爽，不亦乐乎？”明清人得沐 浴生活反映在市民口头文学中，出现了许多以沐浴为内容的笑话。 混堂是众人共同沐浴的场所，各式各样的人走到一起“赤诚相见”，混堂几乎是各色人等会聚一堂的小社会，明人豫章醉月子选辑的《精选稚笑》中有一则混堂笑 话云： 义官奔走汗甚，因就混堂浴，浴毕而起，大衣小衣已被人偷去，正喧嚷间，主人诮其图赖，义官愤甚，乃戴纱帽着靴，以带系赤身，谓众人曰：“难道我是这等来 的。” 混堂本来人多人杂，正是小偷施展技能的地方，洗澡失衣已习以为常，所以混堂主人装糊涂，这才气得义官有此好笑之举。豫章醉月 子评曰：“好个衣冠模样，这光景诉与谁行。”没什么好办法，看来义官只有自认倒霉。清人游戏主人篡辑的《笑林广记》卷五有一则《混堂漱口》云： 有人在混堂洗浴，掬水入口而漱之。众各攒眉相向，恶其不洁。此人贮水于手曰：“诸公不要愁，待我漱完之后，吐出外面去”。
