巴西、美国南达科塔洲、美国科罗拉多州、马达加斯加岛粉晶原矿大多为块状，产于各地伟晶岩中，生长在上层的质地比较好，目前市面上看到的粉晶柱都是块状原矿再磨成柱状的。粉晶的质地易脆，因内含有微量的钛元素而形成粉红色，如果长时间接受阳光曝晒会失去原有的娇嫩色泽，常见的人工加工方式是染色，透明度由不透到半透至透明的都有，但非常清澈明亮的天然晶体，我们称之为星光粉晶。另外，在巴西的 Minas Gerais Obsidian，并且有些条文呈椭圆形状，就形成俗称的单眼黑曜或者是双眼黑曜石了，而如果以价格来看，彩虹单眼黑曜及彩虹双眼黑曜是价格最高的，因为除了产量较为稀少之外，品相也相当的漂亮喔。黑曜的分布大多是曾有火山活动的地区，如美国的夏威夷、日本、印尼的爪哇岛，其它在冰岛、匈牙利、意大利的利帕里群岛、前苏联、墨西哥、厄瓜多和瓜地马拉等地也有出产。深黑色单眼的黑曜石则分布于美国的亚利桑那和新墨西哥州，被印第安人称为「阿帕契之泪」。水晶灵性
