Describe a difficult work situation / project and how you overcame it?

nowaday，as the effect of economic crisis all over the world, the working stituation in and abroad are becoming more and more serious.

i work in a foreign trade company, which mainly deal with american customer.however, we have found that we have difficulty in contacting with them, as we mainly sell the products for them in china and we can get commission from the american company. since we and america are different time zone, so there is always time differnce between us. as the consuming ability of the domestic company is reducing, so it is difficult for our sales managers to sell the products. though the products are in high quality, the cost are ten times higher than the counterpart in china. as the profit is less, so the company want to cut the expense, both the routine expense and manpower cost, as this, many colleagues are fired by the company due to the so so excuse, such as contradict(one"s elder or superior) or sleep on the work time. to hold this job, i have to work harder and harder, making no mistakes during works, absolutely obey the leader"s order.

I graduated from university two years ago,and my major is Business English.Luckily,I landed a job in a joint-venture as a translater after graduation.This company often trade with other countries about building materials.You know,my major is English,but I don"t know much words about the building materials,so I ran into many difficulties at first,and I nearly lost my job,because the manager were not satisfied with me.In order to hold out my position,I made up my mind to learn something about the building materials.I bought mang books,and learned them by myself.I often burn midnight oil,and when I met some questions,I always ask my colleages,or look them up through the Internet.After a half year,I made a big progress,and now I can accomplete my job easily.Last month,I also got a promotiom because my excellent performance which made my manager very happy.We shouldn"t be afraid of difficulty,and we must know that we can overcome it if we try our best.

Carolyn Stradley is the founder of C&S Paving Inc in Atlanta, USA. In the following account, she recalls the job that challenged her imagination and skill but left her flying high.

“When the Atlanta Airport was under construction in 1979, we were a new company struggling to make it. National Car rental wanted to have 2,500 square meters of dirt paved so the cars could be on site when the airport opened, and the official opening was only the days away! no other local paving company wanted to do the job, stating it couldn"t be done in such a short time.

“Because we were new and really needed the work, we were willing to try harder. We gave National Car Rental our offer and promised our best effort to get the job finished within ten days. We also reminded them that if we failed, they would be no worse off, but they had plenty to gain if we succeeded.

“We got the job and immediately went into action . Working at night needed lights, so I rented a machine to produce electricity for the site. Our next challenge was to keep the rock mixture wet enough. All the available water wagons were rented out for the airport construction, and we certainly couldn"t afford to buy a new one. instead , I got a special permit to rent fire engine hoses and connect them to nearby hydrants；then I personally held one of those hoses to water down the rock.

“Those ten days were filled with challenges that required one creative idea after another. Nine days later, the night before the airport opened, National Car Rental was the only company that had cars on the parking lot.

“The key to our success was having the courage to take on any job and then being creative in our approach to getting it done.”
