但我们可以先大致了解一个概念，如欧美国家，货物到港口后一般要求3-5天内来提货，不然会产生一个滞港费(Demurrage)的问题。我想，我们大部分的外贸业务员也知道。其实并不是那么绝对，有的客人跟本地的货代关系好的，可以将货物放在港口十天半个月甚至一个月不提货都不用交滞港费。我们国内的厂家不知内情的，为了尽快收回货款，被客人抓住心理上的弱点，客人无条件的提出打折，也答应了，这就造成了损失。我谈到了7年前一位澳洲客人STEPHEN(化名)跟我们订了一批货物总值15万美金，已付50%的订金，其余是后T/T见提单传真件后两周内支付。这批货我们是提早一个多星期就交到香港货代的手里。一般香港到澳洲墨尔本的船运时间是18天左右。可是客人确认收到提单传真件约两个多星期了，还没有汇款进来。当香港办事处的经理打电话通知我此事时，已经过了二十几天了，估计船已经到了墨尔本。我连发了两张URGENT抬头的传真及邮件去给客人，客人均没有回复。打电话去STEPHEN公司，小姐说老板出国参展去了，并说老板有电话回来会告之此事的，让我们不用着急。我想在这时，如果你身临其境的话可能会感受到那种无形的压力。虽然此时老板及总经理都没有吭声，虽然此单在收到客人订金的时候老板还打电话来说做得很好，但是问题出来的时候，大家可是大眼瞪小眼的，象看怪物一样，因为此客人基本上跟我是单线联系。而且公司已经把余款给工厂了。更关键是，客人的葫芦里到底卖的是什么药?!如果从心理上来分析，客人不可能白白的付出几万美金的订金而不要货了，除非他是疯子。但当时我是第一次跟澳洲的客人做生意，对那边的情况不是很了解，更不知道客人的货能在码头放多久，所以不明白客人为什么宁愿交滞港费而不提货。因此当时的压力是可想而知的。我认为一名好的外贸业务员的心理素质是通过一些磨难炼出来的。如果换了一个没有责任感的人，他可能会想，反正付款方式后来老板也同意了，香港办事处负责收汇，客人不汇款关我什么事?可是，一名好的业务员，他有责任心，他会把公司当成是自己的，那他就会去想办法解决问题，也许解决问题后他个人没有任何好处，可是他所得到是处理问题的经验和心理素质的提高，这是用钱买不来的。一个人最看不开的就是个人的利益，可是我认为，如果一个人在工作中时时都把个人的利益摆在第一位的话，那他可能永远都不会进步。客人这样做的目的就是想在心理上把我们拖跨，然后再提出要我们打折，这是国际上惯用的一种手段，但如果处理不当，可能造成的损失会更大。这种客户你还不能说他是骗子，他只不过是做生意的手段精明而已。当时我想，一定要想办法逼客人露面。我给香港经理打了个电话，让他通过香港的货代公司查一下澳洲其他大的鞋类采购商的电话及传真号码。他很快就帮我找到了三家澳洲大采购商的资料。我给这三家公司都发了一份内容相同的传真：Dear Sirs,Here is a Branch of Taiwan XXXX Trading Co., Ltd in Chinese mainland.
