工科第一麻省理工（mit）从来就没有人争议过，虽然它的有些专业不是第一，但他的综合名气奠定了在多数人梦想的位置。加之它在波士顿占地域优势，跟是吸引着世界最优秀学子的青睐。学校建筑错乱，校园并不是很漂亮，和哈福大学只有两站地，大有清华与北大的气息。波士顿是一个连味道都极其像天津的城市。但是生活费巨高无比，通常每个月得花一千二三百美金吧。Mit 的奖学金好像每年也就两万左右，基本不会剩很多的。而且学校的open house（美国学校给录取的学生一次免费参观校园的机会）只给报销350美元的路费，很多学校都是500美元的上限，很是不爽。尽管如此申请的人数应该居各个大学之首。申请mit本科平均成绩怎么也得4.0（满分）,材料系每年会在大陆招两三个学生。今年好像是复旦光科的大牛，还有北大化学的大牛拿到了材料的全奖。MIT总体工科十分强，理科也都是前几，商学院也不错。缺憾就是没有医学院。所以我想MIT就像中国人对清华的情节差不多吧。他的著名中国校友，搜狐创始人张朝阳，其他的想不起来。 工科占据第二位置的是斯坦福(Stanford)，尤其是电子和计算机方面很强。地处风景优美，气候宜人的加州。学校以创新为主，学生企业较多。离硅谷附近，就业创业机会很多。硅谷相当一部分企业是由斯坦福的教授和学生建立的，像大家熟悉的GOOGLE。学校亚裔学生较多可能处于加州的原因。材料研究多以电子材料为主，兴趣不同，校园那是相当的漂亮，可能是世界上最美丽的大学校园之一。著名华裔校友有雅虎创始人杨致远，还有chinaren的几个创始人。 加州大学伯克利分校（UC-Berkeley）一直被放在第三位，可是人们总认为给它的排名有点低。他的有机化学十分的强，各大学都望其项背。校友多为教授。Berkeley 消费很高，周围风景也不美，比较乱。化学系有的组有三四十个博士，十几个博士后，基本见不到导师。即便如此也不减它研究的声望。著名华人校友，有哈福大学数学系教授丘成桐，还有哈福大学化学系的教授庄晓伟，很多牛教授就不一一列举。公立学校第一无可争议。 密歇根大学（university of Michigan— ann arbor）我要好好说说。因为我会在这个学校读博士。学校很大，也挺漂亮，分中心校区，大部分理科文科商学院的所在地，北校区，工科的集中地。中间还夹着医学院和几个附属医院。学校有比北京工体还大的体育馆。它的各个方面都十分出色，商学院的MBA教育更是与哈佛大学不相上下，甚至在美国企业里公认超过哈佛商学院。所处城市安娜堡（ann arbor）虽然在底特律附近（大概有一个小时多车程），但是治安还是比较好的。学校研究气氛非常好，系里对学生比较关心。我去面试时候什么都由他们出，光机票就有接近700美金，宾馆也是每天150美金，感觉非常好。在公立大学里，密歇根紧跟在伯克利的后面。如果想毕业进入企业的同学，密歇根是最好的去处，各个方面都很强，机会很多。学校的各种不同种类的博物馆很多，好像有一个非常大的亚洲文化博物馆.音乐学院也很好，今年四月份有一场挺大的维也纳音乐会。著名校友，就说一个吧，华裔诺贝尔奖获得者丁肇中。 伊利诺大学香槟分校（UIUC）出了名的玉米地，因为地处小镇，和各个大城市较远。正是因为如此，学风十分的好。年轻教授在这里容易出成绩，可是总有成名教授被挖走的现象。综合排名在公立大学里直逼密歇根大学。想安心作几年研究的同学的最佳去处。刚以断壁山获得奥斯卡最佳导演奖的著名导演李安毕业于此校。 加州理工（cal tech）世界上诺贝尔奖获得者最密集的地方。学校小而精，只有2200个学生，其中1100个本科生，1100个研究生。全美录取率最低的学校。这么小的一个学校足可以和几万学生的麻省理工以及斯坦福相提并论，可见它的牛气。是一个真正意义上的牛校。想搞一辈子研究的人，这是最好的地方。据说亚裔巨多。可能是学习最累得一个地方。每个专业每年只能毕业几个博士，博士的质量都是相当高的。名校友太多著名科学家了，很多像钱学森等老一辈科学家毕业于此。 康乃尔大学（cornell）, 在纽约州一个叫ithaca的小镇上，小镇太小，连一个像样的中国店都没有。康乃尔大学在山顶，校园很漂亮。大家都因为李登辉毕业于此而记住它。学校的特点是各个专业都在十名左右徘徊，比较均衡。学校大部分专业非常的傲慢。可能是比较牛的原因吧。不过小镇太小，读五年博士也挺boring的。 佐治亚理工（Gal tech）虽然被usnews排在第四，可是我觉得它只有工业工程比较厉害，全美排名第一，其他工科没有听到特别的地方，可能是比较大，反正材料系不强。地处南方天气应该很好。 哥伦比亚大学（columbia）地处寸土寸金的纽约市，学校奇小无比，但是在曼哈顿的周围工作机会超级多，也是一个很好的去处，尤其是那些想进华尔街的同学，这就是一个很好的跳板。学校从一个对角线走到另一个对角线不用十分钟。法律化学商学院等系很厉害。工程排名不是前二十，但因为理科名气和所处位置，依然是一个非常热门的申请地方。 哈佛大学（harvard）世界顶尖大学的代名词，特别是本科，它的理科，商科，社会科学都非常的强，学校的工科不是很大，排名也不是前十，因为它的名气，没有人怀疑哈福的教育质量，所以工科依然热门。校园十分美丽，好多人，确切说好多非哈佛学生的游客。约翰哈佛的铜像是每个到过哈佛的人合影的首选。谣传摸一下他的左脚学业会扶摇直上，所以他的左脚被摸得锃亮。哈佛的校友太多，就不一一列举。 普林斯顿（princeton）在新泽西，本科总是与哈佛争锋。理科翘楚。数学物理非常强。大概大家都记住了美丽人生里的约翰纳什，在这里的天才确实不少。学校和哈佛极像，工科也不是重点，但是在理科的铺垫及名气下，也是一个很好的作研究去处。 谈到美国留学，中国人不得不谈到耶鲁（Yale），因为中国近代史上第一个留美学生容闳毕业于耶鲁大学。耶鲁的本科教育非常优秀，本科前三名，与哈佛、普林斯顿齐名，工科也不是它的重点，较比他的其他专业，有点弱。法律社会科学超强无比。美国总统的摇篮，最近三届总统，老布什，克林顿，小布什皆毕业于此。连04年小布什的竞选对手克里都毕业于此，法律之强可见一斑。美中不足，这几年商学院排名直下。 宾西法尼亚大学（u penn）位于费城。有牛气冲天的沃顿( Wharton)商学院，金融无人能及。现在在美国金融的几个比较牛的华裔教授大都毕业于此。而且有好几个是先在宾西法尼亚大学拿到一个学位然后站到金融系读博士的。 芝加哥大学美国诺贝尔奖获得者最多的大学。数学经济等系非常的强。杨振宁和李政道都是这个学校毕业的。工科并不著名。学校靠近黑人区，有人会担心安全问题。 介绍几个联盟。首先当然是常青藤盟校，它们是：马萨诸塞州的哈佛大学，康涅狄克州的耶鲁大学，纽约州的哥伦比亚大学，新泽西州的普林斯顿大学，罗德岛的布朗大学，纽约州的康奈尔大学，新罕布什尔州的达特茅斯学院和宾夕法尼亚州的宾夕法尼亚大学。基本全在本科排名前十。属于贵族学校，学费很贵，校园大都很漂亮，除了哥伦比亚大学有点小。 “十大“ 是美国十一所大学体育竞技联盟，这十一所学校都是工科名校，他们包括密歇根大学(University of Michigan —Ann arbor )，伊利诺大学香槟分校(University of Illinois urbana champaign)，威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校(University of Wisconsin Madison)，普度大学(Purdue University)，宾西法尼亚州立大学(Penn State University)，西北大学(Northwestern University)，明尼苏达大学双子城分校(University of Minnesota Twin Cities)，俄亥俄州立大学(Ohio State University)，密歇根州立大学(Michigan state university)，印第安娜大学(university of Indiana)，伊阿华州立大学(iowa state university)，每年十大的橄榄球联赛是全国人们谈论的焦点。其他名校如国内熟悉赖斯（rice）,杜克（Duke）等都是本科名校，工科研究排名不是很靠前。 还有一些比较不错的学校，像卡耐基梅隆大学（Carnegie Mellon University）是一个很牛的工科名校，尤其是他的计算机科学是全美排名第一的，李开复便是此校此专业毕业。约翰霍普金斯(John Hopkins University)的生物和医学比较强，还有德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校（University of Texas Austin）地处德州各种就业机会繁多，电子产业发达也是一个非常牛气的工科学校。加州大学的所有分校的工科都很厉害，其中圣巴巴拉分校（University of California Santa Babara）是美国最美丽的大学. 还有马里兰大学（University of Maryland college park）,华盛顿大学（University of Washington）德州农机大学（Texas A&M University college station）, 等都是不错的大学。 其实在美国排名前五十的学校的学校差别不大，都是名校，关键看每个人的导师与这个学校的研究方向的强弱。世界排名前一百的大学75%在美国。
