文/江寒园我们经常讨论到的一些电影话题，哪怕是我前几篇从技术角度探讨电影叙事结构的文章，也大多仅仅停留在探讨电影功能的层面，尚未触及到电影的本质属性。那么什么才是一个事物的本质属性？我们研究一个对象时，一般会从两方面入手，即功能和属性。所谓功能，即事物在具体环境下展示的作用与能力；所谓属性即是一事物区别于其他事物的特征。 我们说电影是时空的艺术，是建筑、绘画、雕塑三种空间艺术和音乐、舞蹈、诗三种时间艺术的融合。这些都只是阐述了电影与其他艺术形式在功能上相似的话题，即电影像什么？但并未提到电影区别于其他艺术形式的本质属性，即电影是什么？ 事物的本质只有通过功能与属性才能够显示出来。然而我们以往对电影的研究讨论大多集中于它的功能层面，即它作为一则文本所生发出的结构和内容，表现手段和思想感情，而忽略了电影之所以能够区别于其他事物而成为电影，即它的根本属性这一课题。 所谓电影的属性，即是指作为其记录与还原媒介的光波和声波，以及他们所制造出的时空结构。 这就涉及到了电影是如何成为可能的。 我们常以为的，在影院或电脑上看到的电影是他们自动放映的结果，我们只需要机械的接受就好了。其实不然，电影实际上是在我们的大脑中完成的。从电影的放映再到我们的接受中间还有一道大脑的转译程序。 长久以来人们一直以“视觉暂留原理”来解释这道转译程序。所谓视觉暂留，即指影像在人眼视网膜上持续约十分之一秒之后才会完全消失。 举个通俗易懂的例子，应该都有过这类生活体验吧，我们发呆长时间注视某个东西如花纹，眼睛移到别处之后一段时间还会出现这个花纹的影子。这就是影像在视网膜上持续的1/10秒，也就是视觉暂留原理的具体体现。 幻盘也是用这个原理完成的： 一张旋转的圆盘只画有空鸟笼的一面在视网膜上留下影像，根据视觉暂留这一人体的生理现象，这一影像将在视网膜上持续1/10秒后才会消失。如果在这1/10秒内圆盘上画有鸟的那面翻转过来也在视网膜上留下了影像，那么他们将重合在一起，人的眼睛就“看见”了一个鸟在鸟笼里影像，但实际上这个影像并不存在。由于幻盘一直被认为是电影成像的起源，而幻盘是视觉暂留原理的产物，因此人们往往把视觉暂留原理当作运动幻觉的全部解释。 然而在1912年，马克斯·韦特海默（Max Wertheimer）所做的实验对运动幻觉提出了新的解释： 韦特海默用速示器通过两条细长的裂缝先后在幕布上投射两条光线，一条是垂直线，另一条则与这条垂直线成20°或30°角。如果先后投射的这两条线时间间隔很长（如1秒），那么我们看到的是两条 先后出现 的光线，他们各自独立。如果两条光线出现的时间间隔很短（如0.02秒），那么这两条会被看做是同时出现的。可如果这两条线出现的时间间隔在两者之间，则被我们看做是光线从一处向另一处移动。 第一种情况中并未产生运动现象，而第二种情况，我们认为起作用的仍然是视觉暂留原理。而第三种情况实际上并未产生运动，我们却知觉到了运动，韦特海默称其为似动现象（phiphenomenon）。 在这个实验中，我们注意到之所以会出现三种不同的情况，关键在于时间间隔。而第三种似动现象的所包含的时间间隔是处于一种相对较大的时间上下限范围内（0.02s—1s），其时间间隔的范围大于第二种视觉暂留。如果我们将电影以每秒三格或二格的慢速来放映（这种慢速是在视觉暂留所要求的0.1秒之外的，实际是以时间而将两者区分开的控制变量法），尽管非常慢，尽管有闪烁，但是人们仍然会看到影像的运动，这就排除了视觉暂留是运动幻觉这一说法。 似动现象是不以人的意志为转移的，即使清楚的知道并不存在物理运动，人们也同样会这么感知。这源于人的心理因素，这种心理因素我们归纳为现象认同，即人具有把一种几个客体的运动看成是一个单元的倾向，数个分离的静止画面之间的现象认同性的接受使观众把那一过程看做运动。 好了，我知道这种学术性的枯燥语言没人想看，美赞臣那个广告应该都看过吧，那个小孩画了一个图册，每一张都是静止的画面，然后他把画册卷起来从第一页快速翻到最后一页，就出现了蛹虫变蝴蝶的小动画。这就是因人们现象认同的心理因素而产生的似动现象。 视频地址： http://v.ku6.com/show/JqFl-mmdb-7i47K9w5kUyQ...html 现在回头再看哪个幻盘，他只有这一个画格，利用视觉暂留这一生理现象达成两个静态影像的重叠而产生幻觉，但并不能产生运动幻觉。换句话说视觉暂留只能让我们看到鸟在笼子里这一静态画面，并不能让我们看到鸟飞进了笼子里这一动作。而电影是一连串静止画格的运动，超越了幻盘的局限，利用现象认同这一心理现象使我们产生了运动幻觉，这才解释了开头我们所提到的观点——电影是在观众大脑中完成的。视觉暂留仅仅保证了产生运动幻觉的质量，即避免使我们看到电影前后画面间隔中的黑屏，而似动现象才是产生运动幻觉也就是电影的根本原因。可以说，正是由于现象认同才使电影成为可能。 电影的成像正是基于人们的认知错觉，然而这是人类迄今为止最美丽的错觉。
