速度与激情》《极速60秒》等电影中，以及《极品飞车》《山脊赛车》等游戏中，都有一个让你眼前的屏幕变得模糊让你看不清前方道路的东西，那就是氮气加速系统。 我们都知道，氮气本身是很不活泼的气体，他是如何实现那种加速度的呢？ 其实，所谓“氮气加速”，用的根本不是氮气，而是N2O，也就是一氧化二氮，俗称“笑气”。要弄懂他的原理，首先我们要弄懂汽车上汽油机的工作原理。汽油机是通过汽油的燃烧将燃烧做功使汽车运行的。而燃烧除了燃烧物和燃点的要求以外，还需要助燃物。一般的助燃物就是氧气。通过将汽油和空气的混合物喷入汽缸（也有分开喷射再在缸内混合的）后通过汽缸的压缩使缸内气温升高，再通过火花塞的电火花使混合气体发生爆炸推动活塞继续运行，这就是一般发动机的工作原理。而为了提升发动机的功率，主要就有增加进油量和增加助燃气进入量两种方式。增加进油很简单，只需要把油门哄大就好了，而增加助燃气的进入量就比较麻烦，需要其他的装置来实现。最早曾采用机械增压的方式来增加空气的进入量，方法是通过引擎的曲轴连接一根皮带，皮带另一头就是一个增压器，这样只要发动机在转动就可以带动增压器的叶片转动从而鼓入更多的空气进入。这种方法的好处是比自然吸气的发动机更能有效地利用空气中的氧气让他们跟汽油混合，使汽油燃烧更充分，自然功率就上来了，但这会直接加大发动机的负担，于是之后就出现了涡轮增压。与机械增压不同，涡轮增压是通过尾气的排放来推动增压器的叶片的方式鼓入空气。与机械增压一样都可以提高汽油的燃烧度从而提升性能，但涡轮增压对发动机的负担相对来说就小了很多，使得涡轮增压相对来说就更省油。但涡轮增压的不足也同样很明显，就是严重的滞后性。通常为了加速，我们都会把油门哄很大，然而这个时候不可能马上尾气的排放就跟上来，要过一段时间之后才会因为发动机转速的提高而提高尾气的排放量。 于是就有了氮气加速系统。 与涡轮增压和机械增压不同，氮气加速系统是被申请了专利的产品，因此不是任何一个厂家都可以随便生产的。发明氮气加速系统的是美国的HOLLEY公司，全称是NITROUS OXIDE SYSTEM，一般简称NOS。氮气加速系统需要一个缸瓶装入高压液态的N2O，在需要使用的时候将高压的N2O压入发动机，N2O分解产生的氧气就用来助燃，氮气则用来降温，而不是像电影《极速传说》中说的那样使用燃烧爆炸产生的威力是汽油5倍的氮气（事实上氮气根本就无法在自然条件下燃烧）。与上面两种增压装置相比，氮气加速效果更好并且随时可以使用，只是缺点也不低，其中之一就是成本比较高。不仅改装成本较高，而且N2O也不是用不完的更不是可回再收利用的。但N2O的效果确实是非常棒，虽然不可能像电影中或者游戏中那样产生一种视觉上的模糊效果，那是夸张，但效果绝对比使用增压器要好很多，因此引擎的温度升高会很快，这也是为什么会需要氮气来降温的原因。但即使如此，氮气加速还是不能长时间使用。虽然不像《极速传说》中说的那样10秒钟就可使引擎高温爆炸，但一般仍然建议使用时间不得超过1分钟。不过话虽如此，一般又怎么可能用上1分钟呢？即使从起步算起，加上换档时间，一般的改装车恐怕也只需要10秒钟左右的时间就可以达到最高速度，之后你再用氮气加速也是没用的，引擎极限如此。而且即使是正常情况下，档位越低，发动机转速升高越快，换档间隔也就越短，因此一般都是在挂到最高档后才使用，这样不仅能有更快的加速度，还能因为认为提高发动机功率使最高速度比正常情况下更高。不过也正因为氮气加速的效果“过于明显”，他的使用对发动机带来的负荷也非常大，因此也非常危险，所以改装氮气加速系统的时候肯定会有保险装置保证N2O不会被误喷。另外民用的氮气加速系统相对来说效果要稍微差一点——也是为了安全考虑。而到了比如职业的直线加速赛氮气加速的效果才会非常明显。另外如果不是直线加速赛而是一般的场地赛，而你又不是在直道而是在弯道中使用，那么氮气加速带来的短短两三秒的加速度可以说是完全派不上用场，反而只会对发动机造成额外的伤害，因此掌握好氮气加速的使用时机对于改装了氮气加速或者想要改装氮气加速的人也是不得不学会的
