otherwise和what"s more虽然有时候在词义上都可以翻译为“此外”，但是二者的区别还是比较明显的。一是词义有所区别，二是体现的关系不同。otherwise连接的两个句子成分是一种并列或相对关系。what"s more体现的是一种递进关系。具体如下：otherwise意为~除此之外，在其他方面，暗含“相对来说、有所不同的”意思。例如The rent is high，（but）otherwise the house is fine.租金贵是贵，但房子倒是不错。而what"s more意为~此外，更有甚者，暗含“尤其是、尤为明显的是”的意思。He"s dirty，and what"s more he smells.他不仅身上脏，而且还带了股味儿。附：为什么会容易使二者混淆，因为译为“此外”在汉语里本身就是有歧义的，一种是“除此之外不同的是”，一种是”除此之外，更有甚者“。而英语为母语的人来看，二者是不会混淆的。斟词酌句，这也是翻译需要注意的地方。
