This movie has been remade several times and I doubt if in this day and age the old fashioned plot would succeed. This is because the plot is full of lots of melodrama and situations that today just seem too unbelievable. However, being a fan of older films, I was able to suspend disbelief and just watch the movie and accept it for what it was.
Ms. Leigh is a struggling ballerina in love with a rich guy about to go off to WWI. They are desperately in love and she ultimately gives up her career for him. Unfortunately, he goes off to war and is assumed to be lost and she has no income. His family is far from welcoming and so she is forced to sell her body to support herself! Now, most people today would think "yeah, she COULD just scream and yell and demand support from his family or why doesn't she just go out and get a job?" and this is the main problem with the film. Also, it's hard to reconcile the fine romance and romantic cinematography and music with her becoming a hooker. They just don't go together. These plot holes, it turns out, are a result of a massive re-writing of the script from the 1931 film of the same name--where the character Ms. Leigh plays is already a prostitute when she meets her love AND she never was a ballerina! However, in spite of this, it's still an excellent film and is worth seeing.

Even as one of the few movies where an animal is the main character, this one is special. It's about a relation between a man and a dog like no other, and gives a new meaning to the phrase "Man's best friend.".
Based on a story of a real dog Hachi that waited for his deceased master for 9 years in Tokyo's Shibuya station, Hachi is a moving story about dog's loyalty that transcends animal - human barrier. Nowhere in the world has a story of this likes has been reported, and in his native Japan, Hachi is still the symbol of how families should be faithful to one another. This is no ordinary animal's movie as the animal not only gets the top billing, but gets it above a Hollywood A list actor Richard Gere. Although the movie's setting is transplanted to a town in Rhode Island, the story is essentially the same as that of the original Hachi. Richard Gere makes his second appearance on a Japan themed movie, first being "Shall we Dance ?", as the University professor.
For the real dog Hachi, a bronze statue of him was erected in 1948 at Shibuya station in front of an exit that now bears his name "Shibuya eki Hachi ko guchi" (Shibuya Station Hachi Ko Exit), and is a popular landmark for people to use as a meeting place.
This certainly is one of the best movie Richard Gere starred in, and also one of the best animal movie of all times. It will move you in a way no other movie would, and is highly recommended for viewing.

爱丽丝梦游仙境 Alice In Wonderland 英文影评 review by ROGER EBERT
As a young reader, I found Alice in Wonderland creepy and rather distasteful. Alice's adventures played like a series of encounters with characters whose purpose was to tease, puzzle and torment her. Few children would want to go to wonderland, and none would want to stay. The problem may be that I encountered the book too young and was put off by the alarming John Tenniel illustrations. Why did Alice have such deep, dark eye sockets? Why couldn't Wonderland be cozy like the world of Pooh? Watching the 1951 Disney film, I feared the Cheshire Cat was about to tell me something I didn't want to know.
Tim Burton's new 3-D version of "Alice in Wonderland" answers my childish questions. This has never been a children's story. There's even a little sadism embedded in Carroll's fantasy. It reminds me of uncles who tickle their nieces until they scream. "Alice" plays better as an adult hallucination, which is how Burton rather brilliantly interprets it until a pointless third act flies off the rails. It was a wise idea by Burton and his screenwriter, Linda Woolverton, to devise a reason that Alice (Mia Wasikowska) is now a grown girl in her late teens, revisiting a Wonderland that remains much the same, as fantasy worlds must always do.
Burton is above all a brilliant visual artist, and his film is a pleasure to regard; I look forward to admiring it in 2-D, where it will look brighter and more colorful. No artist who can create these images is enhancing them in any way by adding the annoying third dimension. But never mind that.
He brings to Carroll's characters an appearance as distinctive and original as Tenniel's classic illustrations. These are not retreads of familiar cartoon images. They're grotesques, as they should be, from the hydrocephalic forehead of the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) to Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas), who seem to have been stepped on. Wonderland itself is not limited to necessary props, such as a tree limb for the Cheshire Cat and a hookah for the Caterpillar, but extends indefinitely as an alarming undergrowth beneath a lowering sky. Why you can see the sky from beneath the earth is not a fair question. (The landscape was designed by Robert Stromberg of "Avatar.")
When we meet her again, Alice has decidedly mixed feelings about her original trip down the rabbit hole, but begins to recall Wonderland more favorably as she's threatened with an arranged marriage to Hamish Ascot (Leo Bill), a conceited snot-nose twit. At the moment of truth in the wedding ceremony, she impulsively scampers away to follow another rabbit down another rabbit hole and finds below that she is actually remembered from her previous visit.
Burton shows us Wonderland as a perturbing place where the inhabitants exist for little apparent reason other than to be peculiar and obnoxious. Do they reproduce? Most species seem to have only one member, as if nature quit while she was ahead. The ringleader is the Mad Hatter, played by Johnny Depp, that rare actor who can treat the most bizarre characters with perfect gravity. Whoever he plays (Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, Ichabod Crane), he is that character through and through.
This is a Wonderland that holds perils for Alice, played by Wasikowska with beauty and pluck. The Red Queen wishes her ill, and the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) wishes her well, perhaps because both are formed according to the rules of Wonderland queens. To be sure, the insecure White Queen doesn't exhaust herself in making Alice welcome. The Queens, the Mad Hatter, Alice, the Knave of Hearts (Crispin Glover) and presumably Tweedledee and Tweedledum are versions of humans; the others are animated, voiced with great zest by such as Stephen Fry (Cheshire), Alan Rickman (Absolem the Caterpillar), Michael Sheen (White Rabbit), Christopher Lee (Jabberwocky), Timothy Spall (Bayard) and Barbara Windsor (Dormouse).
The film is enchanting in its mordant way until, unfortunately, it arrives at its third act. Here I must apologize to faithful readers for repeating myself. Time after time I complain when a film develops an intriguing story and then dissolves it in routine and boring action. We've seen every conceivable battle sequence, every duel, all carnage, countless showdowns and all-too-long fights to the finish.
Why does "Alice in Wonderland" have to end with an action sequence? Characters not rich enough? Story run out? Little minds, jazzed by sugar from the candy counter, might get too worked up without it? Or is it that executives, not trusting their artists and timid in the face of real stories, demand an action climax as insurance? Insurance of what? That the story will have a beginning and a middle but nothing so tedious as an ending?
野性的召唤 Call of the Wild 英文影评 review by Justin Felix
It's one of those names still included in literature anthologies to this day. Like many who read this review, I suspect, I had to read some of London's writing as I went through school. My favorite tale of his is a short story about a man trying to survive in extreme elements called To Build a Fire - if you've never read it, it's worth checking out. However, London is best known for two novels, both with animals as lead characters: Call of the Wild and White Fang.
Since London is still a recognizable name (and since his work is in the public domain), it's a no-brainer that various studios over the years have tried to capitalize on his writing. And hence, there's Jack London's Call of the Wild, a 2000 made-for-television production. Like the recently cancelled Dead Zone series, Call of the Wild assumes some of the character names and concepts from the book but otherwise strays from the source material. Surprisingly, it's not that bad.
This version of Call of the Wild follows Miles Challenger, a 15-year-old boy out in the Yukon who becomes enamored with a sled dog named Buck. At the start of the film, Buck is up for auction, and while Miles puts up a feeble bid for the dog, Buck is won by another man, a mail carrier in need of dogs for his sled. Miles lives his mother and stepfather, John Thornton, who debate his future in a similar manner to Luke Skywalker and his Uncle Owen in the original Star Wars. Like Luke, Miles wants to venture off and, in this case, become a guide, but his stepfather wants him in school and worries he's too inexperienced for the dangers of leading others through the hostile and cold environment. The first half of the movie interweaves Buck and Miles's stories before they inevitably cross paths again. In the second half, Buck becomes the lead sled dog for a couple of inexperienced travelers who then hire Miles as their guide. These characters' tale of survival in the wilderness becomes the central plot for the remainder of the film.
While Call of the Wild never really rises above television quality, for what it is, it's entertaining. The story is paced well - although it's pretty obvious where things are headed. The actors are professional, and scenes are punctuated by some nice-looking wilderness shots (the movie was shot in Vancouver). It's a shame this was made in full screen rather than widescreen as the locations are beautiful. The score is whimsical and melodramatic, and seems out of place at times. However, it doesn't overwhelm.
Allumination Filmworks, distributor of this DVD, emphasizes the "family-friendly" quality of this product, and I would agree to a certain point. This is fairly inoffensive stuff, but I do think really little ones might be disturbed by a couple scenes involving dog fights. The characters also come across a man and his sled team frozen dead. So, parents of the very young might want to be present while watching this. The DVD's cover art states an approximate 120 minute runtime, but the feature actually runs 1:35:59. They're probably going by how long this would have run on commercial television with all commercials included.
In sum, Jack London fans may bristle at the radical departure from the novel's storyline, but as a made-for-television movie about dogs and a young boy's coming-of-age, this isn't bad. Rent it.

He was their inspiration. He made their lives extraordinary. There's so much good about this movie. The first time I saw it I watched it solely for plot and I loved it. Now I've seen it again and watched Peter Weir's filming and timing which is also great. Robin Williams is a terrific actor when he's serious. He proved it in Good Will Hunting but he proved it first here. If you liked that movie and your liking it had something to do with Williams than you will like this one. The plot is about a number of students who are taught by Williams about life. They are taught how to enjoy themselves. This ends up causing great controversy among the heads of the school. The students are terrific and even the dialogue is great. This is a movie that I can't imagine anyone not liking. It is good in every way. There are certain films that get under your skin, never to come out. They change your life, subtly altering your perceptions of reality, almost always for the better. Dead Poets Society is one of those few films. I saw the movie back when I was in High School. I had a teacher who told us that we really needed to watch it; in fact, it was our "homework" for the day. We didn't need to bring back a report, or talk about it in class. All he asked from us was to watch it, make up our own mind about it, and that was it. As you can imagine, many friends of mine didn't watch it at all; I did. And yes, I feel I changed a bit from there on. Back when you are young, you never really stop to think what in the world you are doing with your life. You simply live for the day, hope your grades will be enough to pass, and that's it. Long term thinking involves maybe flirting with a girl. Nothing more. What this film showed me was that we have the responsability and the joy of being alive in this planet. That we are dust, and we will go back to it, so we have precious little time to make a difference. That we have a moral obligation to "seize the day, and make our lives extraordinary" (my favorite quote in all movie history). That the world, basically is ours. That the only limitations are within ourselves, and that we owe it to us to fight, to rebel against conformity, to change what we hate and keep what we love. That living in this world is a beautiful responsability, and that only cowards dare not to change it for the better. The fact that the cast was basically my age, and was passing through the same dilemmas and situations I was facing made it all so much more powerful. So here I sit, 12 years from that day. I still don't think I have seized the day completely. But I keep on trying; I always will. I wonder how many people were transformed by this gem of a movie; I hope many. 10 out of 10. A definitive masterpiece. MyCaptain!. I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life!To put to rout all that was not life. And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

·The original Ice Age, released in 2002, was an undemanding kid's film: fast, fun and imaginative, it combined old-fashioned cartoon slapstick with a gently bantering script strong on family values. The sequel plays in similar fashion, warm-hearted and creative in an erratic Looney-Tunes style.
This time around, Manny the Mammoth (Ray Romano) and his pals Sid and Diego must journey to escape the imminent flooding of their valley by a cracking glacier. They're joined in their travels by a family of possums, one of whom is in fact a confused she-Mammoth (charmingly voiced by Queen Latifah). Convinced they are the last two of the species remaining, Manny finds his heart begin to melt - but not as fast as the ice underfoot...
Without a driving plot the film is a series of episodes that become increasingly disjointed and bizarre, often reminiscent of the shorts shown before Pixar movies. One minute the herd is teetering on precarious rock-formations, the next a wake of vultures are doing a dance routine. The most fun comes courtesy of the Wile E. Coyote-esque squirrel, who returns still no closer to catching his beloved acorn. There is a lot of the kind of fast-paced action that computer animation, with its infinite capacity for fine-tuning, lends itself very well to.
The dialogue is spirited if rarely laugh-out-loud funny. With the focus on Manny's attempts to ensure the survival of his species there is less for the other two leads to do and Denis Leary, wonderfully droll as Diego the sabre-toothed tiger, is particularly underused. A strong theme of friendship and loyalty runs throughout but thanks to Romano's curmudgeonly Manny it remains refreshingly unsentimental.
References are made to evolution and the food chain, but this is not as intelligent a script as Toy Story 2 or The Incredibles, and few jokes will pass kids by. Surprisingly, for a film about extinction and flooding caused by global warming, there's no ecological message standing out.
In short, it's less a sequel and more a remake of the first Ice Age, with less plot and more clowning around. The only change is the quality of visuals: the animals now have thick, deep fur that even becomes glossy when wet, and the final flood of photorealistic water boasts glorious refraction effects. Director Carlos Saldanha takes full advantage of current technology to render this lush, wintery world as busily as possible, full of plants and strange creatures.
At a time with little in the cinema for kids, especially for those tired of superhero violence, Ice Age 2 will come as a welcome relief. Children will enjoy the pace and lively characters, and parents can rest assured that the film's heart is in the right place, despite Diego's frequent threats to eat his friend Sid. Lightweight fun.
- Jon Ingold
·Rewind time to 20,000 years ago and the earth would look like a very different place…it’s a time when it would almost look like present day earth, but there would be several creatures running around that are now either extinct or evolved into an animal we are familiar with present-day. This film Ice Age is set in at the beginning of our last ice age; at the moment of when the glaciers were beginning to crawl south into North America, when the ice bridge was formed between Siberia and Alaska allowing many different species of mammals to migrate on this side of the world. It was also during the time when Neanderthal (pronounced Nee-ander-taal) and man coexisted before the Neanderthals became extinct.
In this story, a bitter woolly mammoth named Manfred has the unfortunate run-in with a clumsy and defenceless Sloth named Sid. Sid needs a friend and Manfred wants him to get lost. All of the animals are migrating south, but Manfred is taking the lone trip north to the glaciers for some reasons unknown to us at this time.
Bad-luck has it that the two of them are given a baby Neanderthal from a wounded mother and she hopes they will protect it from the sabre-toothed tiger named Diego. Diego wanted the baby for his “boss” as revenge because these Neanderthals killed half of his pack for clothes. Diego, frustrated that Manfred and Sid have this baby agrees to help the two of them find the father of the baby, but of course, Diego has his own agenda too.
Sarcasm is what makes this movie funny, especially because of Ray Romano as the voice behind Manfred. I can’t say his voice is warm and fuzzy like the creature but that’s why John Leguizamo is there for the voice (and comic relief ) of Sid. The movie has its slow and exciting moments, but one thing I am thankful for is that it’s not very “busy” for an animation. The backdrops are very simple and there isn’t a lot going on in each scene unlike what we see in Robots or The Incredibles. Simple movies like Ice Age are relieving sometimes. They cause fewer headaches.
·Ice Age: The Meltdown showed plenty of promise based on the previews: More of what we got last time, with new characters for us to laugh at. It certainly delivers that in spades, although not a whole lot more. All of our favorite characters return, including Sid the sloth (voiced by John Leguizamo), Manny the mammoth (Ray Romano), Diego the tiger (Denis Leary), and of course dear little Scrat the… something (Chris Wedge), who never quite manages to keep his acorn.
Once again the plot revolves around a journey, this one to safety from a massive flood that is soon going to wipe out anyone who stays in the area. Sid, Manny, and Diego set off with many other animals, but always seem to be separate from the rest, the pack usually is a minor part of the action. And the adventures begin, all with danger, funny situations, and humor that could have been a lot cleaner. The largest of these is meeting up with two possums and another mammoth (Queen Latifah) who believes that she is also a possum. These identity issues make for quite the situation as Manny believes that they may be the last two mammoths left alive. And it turns out that Diego is afraid of water, not a good thing when a flood is headed your way. So they all travel together and try to keep from getting killed; you have to wonder how a few animals can get into so much trouble.
The physical comedy is the strongest point, of course. You can’t help but laugh at the scrapes they get in and out of, and it almost makes you forget the dialogue which borders on pathetic. sadly, much of the humor in the dialogue is insults and word plays (a beaver says “Dam!” and the theater erupts in laughter). There is a bit of shaky ground as the mammoths discuss their relationship, but they kept it to a decent level. And like the original, Scrat overshadows everything in his quest to get the acorn. It’s safe to say that he’s the favorite; the kids always made happy noises as soon as he appeared.
So the worst part is the dialogue, of course; I think the scary situations are comic enough to not cause too much trouble for the younger audience. Hungry sea animals may be a little tougher, but the rest will simply evoke laughter. Evolution is, of course, assumed to be true, although it takes a back burner in light of all the adventures. Included is a spoof of Noah’s Ark; the destination of safety is a large boat, so it can at least open a discussion about what really happened. Since the target audience is the children who will absorb all of this stuff, I suggest you give them the parental guidance that the rating advises.
I do feel positive overall about the movie, despite its shortcomings. I certainly did laugh, and while the plot isn’t wonderful, following it made me feel like I had the adventure right along with them. It is what it is; the kids will love it, and parents probably won’t feel like they’ve wasted their money to see it.

Roman Holiday (1953) is a delightful, captivating fairy-tale romance shot entirely on location in Rome, and produced and directed by one of Hollywood's most skillful, distinguished, professional and eminent directors - William Wyler.
The film's bittersweet story is a charming romantic-comedy, a kind of Cinderella tale in reverse (with an April-October romance). A runaway princess (Hepburn) rebels against her royal obligations and escapes the insulated confines of her royal prison to find a 'Prince Charming' commoner - an American reporter (Peck) covering the royal tour in Rome. The story was reportedly based on the real-life Italian adventures of British Princess Margaret.
Wyler was known for other great films including Dodsworth (1936), Jezebel (1938), Wuthering Heights (1939), The Letter (1940), Mrs. Miniver (1942), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), The Heiress (1949), Friendly Persuasion (1956), Ben-Hur (1959) and Funny Girl (1968). Wyler's well-crafted, stylish films that cover a wide range of film genres (family dramas, westerns, epics, romantic comedies, and even one musical) always included down-to-earth characters in real-life situations.
The film received a phenomenal ten Academy Award nominations for a comedy. It won a Best Actress Oscar for its under-experienced British (Belgium-born) actress named Audrey Hepburn - it was her first American film, although she had previously appeared in six European movies and on Broadway in an adaptation of Colette's Gigi. Another of the film's three Oscar awards, the one for Best Original Story was given to Ian McLellan Hunter. In 1992, a posthumous Oscar was properly credited and given to blacklisted Hollywood Ten author Dalton Trumbo, who actually wrote the screenplay. The third Oscar it received was for Best B/W Costume Design (Edith Head). The other seven nominations included: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Eddie Albert), Best Director, Best Screenplay (Ian McClellan Hunter and John Dighton), Best B/W Cinematography, Best B/W Art Direction/Set Decoration, and Best Film Editing.

Music is always Disney's strength and it's particular good in this film. The songs has already become classics and it's really cheering when you listen to them. With them you just don't feel like watching the film for one and a half hours.
The message is very positive.Disney makes use of the impression the public has of lions to show that even someone really strong can be weak sometime. No matter what has come what you should do is face it and deal with it but not run away from it.
This is one of the best Disney's animations and I'm sure both adult and children will enjoy the story and music and won't get bored even if you watch it for a few times.

Avatar” and the Critics
“Avatar” and the Critics
James Cameron's “Avatar” is visually stunning and theologically provocative.(Or so I suggest in today's column.) It is not, however,a very good movie overall. But you wouldn't know that from reading most of the reviews:Cameron's blockbuster boasts an impressive 83 percent favorable rating from Metacritic, and a whopping 94 percent “fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes' roundup of top reviewers.
Browse through the online reaction from fanboys and film geeks, though, and you'll find that a modest (and appropriate) backlash has been building since last week.(I particularly liked this fan's hostile review, carried out via Instant Messenger after a screening.) The source of the backlash is unexpected,in a sense, since you'd think that a movie like “Avatar” — a science fiction epic with groundbreaking special effects and a weak script — would find its most intense apologists on action and sci-fi obsessed sites like Aintitcoolnews and CHUD.com,and its most dismissive critics in the more rarefied air of,say,The New Yorker. But the more highbrow critics have all seemingly decided to grade the movie on a spectacle-driven curve.(Thus David Denby:“The movie's story may be a little trite … but what a show Cameron puts on!”) So it's been left to the fanboys, the people who've watched “Aliens” 97 times and worship the ground James Cameron walks on,to insist that there's more to epic-making than spectacle and special effects.
And good for them for insisting.Sci-fi spectaculars deserve to be taken seriously,as pop art if not as high art,and not just patted on the head for putting on a good show. That doesn't require comparing a James Cameron film to,say,“The Rules of the Game” and finding Cameron wanting. But it means recognizing that there's a world of difference between a truly great special-effects driven fantasy — like “The Matrix” (the first one,not the sequels),or Peter Jackson's “Lord of the Rings,” or “The Empire Strikes Back” — and a gorgeous disappointment like “Avatar,” which succeeds at being eye-popping but doesn't succeed at very much else.

Forrest GumpIt is one of the greatest novels that I have ever read. The main role called Forrest Gump.Let me introduce him shortly. Forrest Gump, who is unfortunately born with a rather low IQ, has already created a miracle, achieving a great deal of incredible success. He is a football star, a war hero, and later a millionaire. Stupid as he is, he gains his brilliant life indeed. At the beginning of reading this novel, I thought an idiot’s life must be more difficult than others. His life must be full of mocks. My thoughts are proved in the book. Because he is an idiot, all the people look down upon him. Most of boys don’t want to share one seat with him on bus; many bad guys throw stones to hit him; he cannot be allowed to study into primary school at first; Jenny is the only girl that he loves all his life. But she thinks Forrest Gump doesn’t understand what’s love at first ……After finish reading this novel, I learned a lot. Sometimes I think he is not a fool but a genius. His attitude to life is even clever than ordinary people.Firstly, he is optimistic. He doesn’t do anything wrong but the society is unfair to Forrest. I felt very sad to him. However, Forrest is as optimistic as his mother .he always remembers his mother’s words: “ stupid is someone who did stupid things.” He does not do something stupid.Secondly, he has strong willed. Because his IQ is lower than others, he has to concentrate on one thing. So he does well on everything he works. He loves jenny from the first sight at her to her death. At last, he gets married with her and has a son; he runs for 3 years just because he likes running; he loads a gun faster than other soldiers…Thirdly, he is ideal husband. He is a man with a sense of responsibility. He loves Jenny very much. When others hurt her, he tries his best to protect her. He can earn a lot of money and he is a famous person in America. So he is clever than others. Maybe a lot of people say he has good lucks. But I think character is bond to person’s fate. His attitude and his efforts to life make him has a happiness results at last.In addition, I want to say something about destiny.Sometimes we think god gives everyone different fates. Someone has good looking while someone is born in rich family; someone is good at sports while someone is good at arts. Take Forrest for an example. He is a fool but he has talent on sports, such as running or playing pingpong.so everyone has his or her own gifts. God gives him a great mother. She is clever. She can earn enough money to support her one parent family. She I is also optimistic. She never feels ashamed of her son. She is proud of her son. She never thinks Forrest is a fool. She wants her son can lead a life as an ordinary person. In order to let him study into school, she has sex with the headmaster. She is also intelligent. Every night she reads some books for Forrest and tells some simple truths to him. Such as “There's an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes. Where they're going. Where they've been.” “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.”Thus, do not complain that you do not have something. Just like yourself and make your advantages better and better.Sometimes we think we have bad luck. But in fact it is a good thing for us. I remember one classic sentence: life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you will get from it. For example, because Forrestalways runs to avoid being hit by stones, his speed is faster than others. So he is chosen to baseball team and become to a famous player. He is so excellent that he has got chance to meet president. So whenever you are in trouble, do not think it is a bad luck. It is just a challenge. After overcoming it, you will gain more than you lost. For me, I want to say, last one month I got very bad luck. I got break up with my boyfriend and I met traffic accident on my way to school. And my back was hurt. Because of being shot CT, a lot of acnes appear on my face. Furthermore, my study is influenced. At first I felt very sad. I cannot know how to deal with it. I think I lost a lot of things. After reading the book, I changed my mind. The accidence makes me lost a lot of things. Meanwhile it also made me gain a lot of things. I gained a lot of love from my classmates, my teachers and my relatives. I become mature. And now I pay more attention about my health. If I can overcome this terrible thing, I will be great. And I can lead a splendid life in the foreseeable future. After reading the novel, I watched the movie. As the beautiful music, there is a beautiful feather dancing with the breeze, finally lighting at the foot of Forrest Gump sitting on the bench. At the end of the film, the beautiful feather is going on floating in the sky. In my view, life is just like a feather, which can be changeable with the breeze in the sky. We cannot control the breeze. What we can do is to adjust to the environment. We should take advantage of our advantages. And try our best to make us dancing more beautiful in the blue sky. Our IQ is higher than Forrest Gump, so we have ability to live better than Forrest. Just seek for a better life through work hard.
Or the dream factory has always been the high standard, the screen exquisite detail, vivid characters vivid, touching story twists and turns, the most important thing is it in the most simple and easy to understand that the way of a token, that is - there is no shortcut to the world and Cheats, the only winning Famen is believe in themselves.More do not want to repeat the story, because it really well. Look at the process, appeared frequently Huiyi people laugh, the whole atmosphere is relaxed and go. This film has done very authentic, a little bit by the Westerners did not interpret the feeling, no matter which story or convey the moods, whether the screen or the details are all the way east; only special is probably the Speaking of modern, such as, for example ok
This film was absolutely amazing. I have spent hours re-watching various scenes and noticing all the perfection with which they are acted and directed. It's not the violence or action sequences that make this movie so great (although they are well done...), but rather moments like where Mathilda knocks on Leon's door. It would be so easy to just film the door opening, but instead we see light illuminating Natalie Portman's face, symbolizing something angelic. And the moment has so much more meaning.I know a lot of people who have seen this film because they are action fans. I'm not. But I'm glad I finally found it, because it's a wonderful film in so many other ways.
Before watching the film, I was so familiar with “the silence of the lamb”. I often see this title in some magazines. In the poster there is a woman’s head and a butterfly which is sticking on the woman’s mouth. I think this woman must be a main character of the story, and so it is. She looks beautiful and intelligent, making a good impression on me. It is said that the woman had best-actress award because of this film. And then I had the chance to enjoy this film with several classmates.Because we watched the film in English, I couldn’t catch all the meaning quite well. Besides the thrilling scene and the terror, all the part which gave me the deepest impression was the two main characters of this story. One is a young FBI agent and also the figure of the front cover. She is assigned to help find a missing woman and save her from a psychopathic killer with the help of another killer. Another is a psychologist doctor Lector. As for players, they both have superb acting, and the young agent and the doctor also have vivid dispositions in the film.I got an impression that there were many dialogues between the FBI agent and the doctor in a prison cell. The doctor’s appearance made me afraid, especially his sharp eyes. Just sitting in the chair quietly, not even a word. He usually gave us a terrible feeling. There were mysterious smiles in his face. I didn’t know it was kindness or evil intensions. He ate men’s tongues which sound very horrible, but he looked so kind to his visitor-the young agent named Clarice Starting. Maybe he was a criminal in the law and must be punished, but I didn’t hope that he was caught finally. In my opinion, he is not just a wise and intelligent person and also has strong sentiment and deep thoughts. As for a young woman, Clarice has outstanding bravery and great capability. Faced to such a abnormal man, she was not afraid. She could investigate some incident alone. At last, she went to visit “Buffalo Bill” on her own. Thanks to her sober mind and quick reaction, she could kill the Buffalo Bill and save the woman ultimately. Certainly, she was highly commended for her good job.In a word, this film is worth seeing.

This is one of the best movies I have seen all year, and one of the top horror stories ever told. It's creepy, simplistic, and eerie.
I was impressed by the enchanting simplicity of the plot, the lack of need for "Hollywood" special effects, and the haunting atmosphere that loomed over everything from beginning to end.
The first half,or even three quarters, seemed to move along a bit slowly, but it felt necessary to build the suspense to the point where I was biting my nails in anticipation of the inevitable.
Nicole Kidman's character,Grace...I was torn between empathy and disgust for her at times, but she definitely succeeded at captivating me with their lives and story.Predictable in parts, but it still leaves you guessing. This was a quality ghost story, with an old fashioned ambiance; downright spooky.
I was in awe of the ending,a fairly intelligent premise. It's the kind of movie that lets you escape reality for a while by entertaining you,but at the same time, returns you to the "real world" with your spine tingling, wondering if there isn't some possibility of truth...Chilling.

There's a brilliant scene:Mr.Bean went to the pool the other day, fanncied jumping into water. And he did so,unwillingly, and loses his swimming suit-a pair of briefs..Made me laugh out loud! The writing of the script was just genius.
I love Mr.Bean, not just becouse of his funny things, but also his keen to good life.He wants to be better, even though he always fail.

This is a really good movie. It is fun, entertaining, and visually pleasing. The only drawback to it is that the action overshadows the story by a little too much to give it a higher rating.
The movie starts out with an intense chase with bullets flying and cars crashing and it never really lets up from there. It could have used a little more down time to build the character of the boy, Danny and explain the growing camaraderie between him and Johnny. That would make us more apt to believe Johnny was able to overcome the nature of the rider to destroy all evil enough to save the boy and his mother in the end.
At the apex of the movie is a very long, very fiery battle in mine/construction site/bad guy hangout. The viewer can tell they blew the pyrotechnics budget on this one scene. The problem is there is too much fire, too many explosions, too many bad guys getting burned, too many guns and rockets going off. It quickly becomes too much to focus on and all you can do is sit back glassy eyed and wait for it to come to its conclusion. Fortunately there isn't any dialog during that time to worry about. When I buy this on DVD I can use this scene to go to the bathroom or get coffee without hitting pause. ;-)
Central to the plot is the attempt to get the boy to a safe place. Once there we find out in short order that it isn't safe after all. In what is the biggest let down of the movie, there is not enough back story regarding the monks at "Sanctuary." We aren't given enough characterization time to get to know them so that we can feel justified or betrayed when they do what they do. I think the story must have been there at one time and was likely cut to add more action time. That is a sad thing too since the marvelous Christopher Lambert has such a short part.
Other than being action heavy, it is a very good movie. Not as good as the first one, but still very good.

Life is Beautiful is an Italian movie directed by Roberto Benigni in 1998.It won the Academy Foreign Movie award in 2000 and was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.
In 1939,during World War II in Italy,Guido, the main character, arrived in a small town to live with his uncle. He was a good and kind, cheerful and humorous person. He met and fell in love with Dora,a school teacher who was a very smart and strong person; and they got married.
Five years later,on the day of their young son Joshua's birthday, their lives changed.Guido and Joshua were taken by the Nazis to a concentration camp because they were Jewish.Dora also went to a concentration camp on her own because she loved them.
So that Joshua wouldn't be afraid of everything that was happening in the camp,Guido told him it was a game.He pretended it was all a game in front of Joshua to protect him.Just before the war was over,Guido heroically saves his son.
It is a very beautiful and sad story. It is a heartrending movie that shows us we should never forget what happened and stand up against war.

You will never guess what he wants to be, the spider man. He knows the hero when he sees one, too a few characters out there, flying all around out there, saving old girls like me. Lord knows kids like Henry need hero courageous, sacrificing for people, setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People enthrone them, cheer them, scream their names and years later they will tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse the one who taught them to hold on to stand longer. I believe there is a hero in all of us. They keep us be honest, give us strength, make us noble, and finally allow us to die with proud. Ever though sometimes we have to initiatively give up the thing we want most, even our dreams. Spider man did that for Henry, so he wants to know where he is gone. He needs him. Jesse James (Colin Farrell), his brother Frank (Gabriel Macht) and their cousin Cole Younger (Scott Caan) seem to have arrived on the scene just in time for the invention of the electric guitar. It wails on the soundtrack and makes this western, which doubtless considers itself to be a reimagining (as did ''Planet of the Apes''), sound as if it came from the mind of Jon Bon Jovi. Directed with anonymous pep by Les Mayfield, ''Outlaws'' is a dreary populist telling of the story of the James gang. And the Bon Jovi reference is apropos, since the movie treats the fellas like a touring band that breaks up because of feuding egos and the stresses of the road. Cole, incensed over the news focus on the James boys, wants to share the billing. In fact, as their notoriety grows, Cole wants top billing -- the Younger-James Gang -- leading to ruminative riffing by his amiable brother Bob (Will McCormack): ''Wouldn't people wonder if there was an older James gang?'' It would need only a drug casualty to turn into ''Behind the Music: Jesse James,'' though -- choke, sob -- the James tour does claim a couple of lives, and it's easy to predict which ones. This could be the story of any disintegrating band, except that in this group, the Jameses complete each other, as someone said in ''Jerry Maguire.'' Their personalities are worked out in the kind of schematics taught in screenwriting classes. Frank is the plotter and Jesse is all impulse. At the outset, Union soldiers ambush a group of unsuspecting Rebels that includes Jesse, Frank and Cole. Pinned behind a wagon by both cannon and Gatling gunfire, the sharpshooter Frank asks Jesse for a diversion. A smile pulling at the corners of his face, Jesse creates an eye-catching one. At various moments, ''American Outlaws'' looks as if it wants to try something different and make Jesse an infantile psychopath who is awakened by his taste for violence. He lights up when he has a gun in his hand, but he has no conflicts about his nature; he may make you long for the Chekhovian depth of Emilio Estevez's Billy the Kid in the ''Young Guns'' movies. (Missing is the epic emotional scale of previous James Gang movies like ''The Great Northfield, Minnesota Raid'' and ''The Long Riders,'' both worth seeking out.) ''American Outlaws'' paints all of its young stars as happy guys, so uncomplicated that they're thrilled to hear that Lee has surrendered at Appomattox; none of them seem bothered by the fact that the South has just lost the war. Upon returning home, they find that the railroad tycoon Thaddeus Rains (Harris Yulin) is behind a scheme to run them off their farms. (In this age of entertainment conglomerates like AOL-Time Warner, it seems droll for a Warner Brothers picture to single out the big-moneyed interest in one small town as a black-hatted villain.) ''As we have the most power, we may move with impunity,'' Rains snarls to his martinet (Terry O'Quinn), who is only too happy to carry out Rains's orders. Jesse, Frank and the others are forced down the road of vengeance after arson at their farm takes the life of their ma (Kathy Bates, whose maternal hamminess may bring misery to viewers). When Jesse and the gang follow Frank's notion of giving money they've taken from banks back to the poor farmers, they become heroes, and a true menace to Rains. ''They're disciplined and have a charismatic leader,'' notes Allan Pinkerton (Timothy Dalton), the 19th-century rent-a-cop hired by Rains to track down the gang. What Pinkerton doesn't mention, though he doesn't really have to, is that the real leader of the ''Outlaw'' band is Frank, played by Mr. Macht with desert-dry aplomb. It doesn't hurt that he gets the best lines. ''It's the scientific method I hear is all the rage,'' he says when plying a new technique during a crime. The script by Roderick Taylor and John Rogers has made Frank the film's George Burns, wiling away the movie by commenting on the world as it passes him by. Kung fu panda, this is the interesting film. Paul wanted to become a wu3 lin2's ace (near master) kung-fu to save those who were in danger, teacher taught him how to fight, and let him go to save the world, at last, he defeated 3 Tailung, he met not friends, I think he is a great hero, I like the movie, because... I like the film . . Each meets his story with emotions ranging from enraptured to derision, as they learn with the audience the incredible life Forrest has led. This includes him starring in the All American Football team, winning a Congressional Medal of Honour in Vietnam, exposing the Watergate scandal and making millions from 'Bubba-Gump shrimping industries', while meeting three different U.S Presidents along the way. The film ends on a poignant note, with Jenny and Forrest meeting again and having a son, as Jenny dies of HIV/AIDS. Along with Tom Hanks in the title role Forrest Gump featured an excellent supporting cast, with career bests from Robin Wright Penn as Jenny and Gary Sinise as the legless Vietnam veteran Lt. Dan Taylor. I was inspired by the wonder of a man experiencing his life without realising its significance to the world, just simply wishing for an emotionally damaged woman who goes on to live a lonely life without him. She rejects Forrest, telling him 'he doesn't know what love is', before eventually realising that no-one would ever love her more. The musical numbers here are, to be frank, laughable. This certainly isn't the fault of the cast, though. These kids quite obviously have talent both in singing and dancing. The problem comes from the choreography and songs themselves. Nowhere is director Kenny Ortega's "bigger is better" method more appalling than in these numbers. The dancing on display is too steeped in modern sensibilities to be timeless, and yet it's too showy and stagey to be looked at through serious modern eyes. In other words, it's too hip for Broadway and too Broadway for modern dance. All of the songs have a distinctly electronic sound to them and try desperately to be seen more as MTV-style singles than Broadway standards. They don't even contribute much to the storyline. The number one sin in film musicals is having songs that stop the story dead in its tracks. Three-quarters of the numbers here do just that. They're often self-indulgent, and when they aren't, they simply (and needlessly) re-emphasize what's already been established via dialogue.

I just finished watching it today and I have to say it is amazing. The acting couldn't be done any better. Beautiful scenery helps it set its happy and upbeat mood. And the dramatic scenes at the end have the perfect music to accompany it.
Though I have to say that my absolute favorite thing in the movie was the music. Every song was done great and easily gets stuck in your head. My favorite is Do-Re-Me. There is no dull or boring moments and Julie Andrews did a terrific job. Overall this movie is perfect for young and old alike. I highly recommend buying it.

bicycle-powered horse clipper, and Jahangir Painter,a painter from Maharashtra, who made the scooter-powered flour mill. This film was remade in Tamil as Nanban in January 2012.It has also been announced that there will be a Chinese remake of the film produced by Stephen Chow and that there are plans for a Hollywood remake produced in the United States.[11]

A Truly wonderful film that left you thinking and feeling for hours after walking out of the cinema.
Michelle Pfeiffer is exact in her portrayal of the smart,rich,no-nonsense lawyer who realises how empty her luxurious and successful life is.As always she delivers an outstanding performance and reminds us of just how excellent and beautiful an actress she is.
Sean Penn is so believable that you forget that he doesn't actually have anything wrong with him...he captures every emotion perfectly and instills all of that emotion in the audience.Penn is highly under rated in the world that is movies,as he shows with this Oscar potential performance.
The young actress who plays his daughter is amazingly mature in her acting, whilst always managing to capture the innocence of her youthfullness. On top of all that she is gorgeous. The combination of three excellent main actors combined with the supporting actors and the genuine theme and style of the film makes I am Sam an excellent and must see film.Truly Inspiring.

Source Code is an enjoyable Sci-fi thriller shot in Hitchcockian style, which reminds of the 1993 flick Groundhog Day.Director Duncan Jones who earlier directed the critically acclaimed movie Moon(2009) has created his second movie in even better way pleasing all the sections of the audience using an excellent screenplay by Ben Ripley.
Captain Colterswakes up in a train to Chicago, inside a body of a teacher whom he does not identify and comes to know that he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train and to prevent another bombing in the city.
Jake Gyllenhaal(Whom we loved in Prince of Persia) has done a superb job by effortlessly portraying the confusions, emotions and essence of Captain Colter Stevens.Michelle Monagahan has also played her role remarkably well and suits the role of a lovable Christina Warren.Vera Farmiga (Up In The Air fame) and Jeffrey Wright have done their parts with full commitment and requires appreciation.
Some small goofs about the bombing of the train and colter Stevens and low quality graphic effects, particularly the explosion scenes are the only negatives which can be picked out.
Excellent incorporation of love into a sci-fi background,goof-less script by Ben Ripley, the Hitchcockian way of story-telling and brisk Editing of the movie makes it a must watch for movie lovers.
Source Code is a thoroughly enjoyable Science Fiction with a well-crafted storyline, good performances, strong screenplay and commendable direction.Go for this movie and you will love it.

Whenever you hear people talking about the grace and poetry of Hong Kong cinema, they're usually talking about movies other than this, and they're usually f**king idiots.
Drunken Master is,hands down, one of the two best films to ever come out of Hong Kong. There has never been an action film that's been able to compare. And I wish all the assholes who think that pouring seventeen gazillion dollars into CGI and explosions would sit back and look at this movie.
This is a film which understands, ultimately, that what makes cinema uniquely poignant and affecting is the ability to present motion.Big action films don't do that. They give you a sense of motion, but if you look at them closely, nothing is ever moving. They give false motion through editing and effects.
Drunken Master is filmed,(more likely than not due to budgetary constraints) with a relatively static camera. There are no guns. There are no explosions. There's a virtuoso and his ability and nothing else. The shots of the action are all extremely long and uncut, and they're amazing because Jackie Chan is at the literal peak of his martial artistry and physical ability, and the movement is so captivating that it enables you to suffer through the dubbing and silly scenes of him eating without even noticing.
It's as much a product of circumstance as it is of talent. The limited budget of this movie adds to it dramatically; the sequel is a great film, and the martial arts scenes are undoubtedly more fantastic in scope than the original, but they're not presented in a relatively unedited format, and their power is ultimately diluted.Drunker Master II also wasn't directed by Yuen Woo Ping, who is by far the best of all the martial arts directors in Hong Kong, but even his Wing Chun, probably my second favorite Martial Arts film, being filmed some 15 or so years after the original Drunker Master, can't escape the constraints of a big budget; it's littered with stunt wires and the rest.
Widely considered Jackie Chan's best movie,"The Legend of Drunken Master" (released to the rest of the world in 1994 as "Drunken Master II") features what are arguably the fastest, most furious and elaborate -- and the most entertaining -- fight sequences ever filmed.
Chan plays a fictionalized version of Wong Fei-Hung,a real martial arts master and philosophical altruist in the early 1900s who, legend has it,once defeated a gang of 30 men single-handedly,armed only with a bamboo staff.
That skirmish is,of course, recreated in "Drunken Master" as a kinetic, highly concentrated blur of acrobatics and lightning-fast limbs as two dozen toughs invade a quiet restaurant, forcing Jackie to whip them all silly with flying fists and feet,upside-down wooden tables and cheer-rousing picnic bench-fu.
With half a dozen scenes of this nature -- each one better than the last -- the movie just never slows down.Yet "Drunken Master" also has the most meaningful plot of any Jackie Chan picture to date. It's about the Chinese trying to prevent colonial European smugglers from exporting en masse their nation's archeological treasures. In the picture,Chan's Fei-Hung is the mischievous son of a renowned doctor and martial arts instructor.Much of the movie's obligatory highjinks involve deceiving the old man to cover up the fact that Fei-Hung has inadvertently provoked the wrath of the villain,an embassy henchman played by Ken Lo,a champion kick-boxer.
The jaw-dropping climactic steel-factory showdown between these two puts the effects-heavy bouts in "The Matrix" to shame. With a connect rate of about 50 landed punches per minute,it took four months to shoot and features everything from kicks so fast the camera can't see them clearly to Jackie Chan being knocked onto a bed of burning coals -- and you know he doesn't fake that stuff!
The film gets its name from an informal fighting style that emulates (and is sometimes enhanced by) inebriation.Sloshing and stumbling about to confuse his opponents and striking from surprising positions,Chan plays this peculiar kung-fu for both action and laughs (booze is to Fei-Hung what spinach is to Popeye).
"The Legend of Drunken Master" is burdened somewhat by the routine weaknesses of most Jackie Chan movies:bad dubbing of dumb dialogue, subservient and stereotypically fussy female leads, etc. But forgiving all that,as any true Jackie Chan fan does, you simply cannot find a more exhilarating,eye-popping martial arts flick.
The opening credits say it all:"A Hong Kong Stuntman Association Ltd.Production." The stunt men produced the movie!
A note to ratings-watchers:"Drunken Master" got slapped with an unjustified "R" for its moderate violence. If your kids are Jackie Chan fans, there's no reason to keep them away from this one.

The world is ending in a matter of hours, yet justice and humanity don’t penetrate through the brain-shells of politicians. In order to save their own lives, the government officials keep the secret from the rest of human kind and also lets the man whose knowledge saves their lives die. This is the premise of 2012.
But if the viewer is a Tibetan or someone who is aware of the Tibetan culture and the sensitivities of Tibetan issue, one could feel that the justice and humanity are not occurred in the director’s thought either.
And in real life ethically speaking,Mr.Emmerich failed to hire Tibetan actors who can speak their own language. All the actors who play Tibetan characters are Chinese very poorly pretending to be Tibetans.Their Tibetan is hundred times worse than Zhang Yi’s memorized English or Leonardo DiCaprio’s Swahili (well I can imagine!).
First Blood arrived in theaters in October 1982,some seven and one-half years after the end of the Vietnam War.Veterans' rights were still a significant issue, although their prominence was waning. With its message about how returning soldiers had been marginalized by a divided country in desperate need of healing,First Blood sought to bring more to the table than the story of an unhinged survivalist lashing out at a bunch of close-minded bigots.Based on David Morrell's novel, the screenplay by Michael Kozoll,William Sackheim, and Stallone sought to mix politics with action. As established by the movie,Rambo wasn't merely the target of a group of small-minded local law enforcement officials, but the pawn of a system that created him then set him adrift and,in a larger sense,of a society that had no use for him beyond the soulless business of warfare. In First Blood,Rambo is a victim.

plot:The story revolves around a dying father and his son, who is trying to learn more about his dad by piecing together the stories he has gathered over the years. The son winds up re-creating his father's elusive life in a series of legends and myths inspired by the few facts he knows. Through these tales, the son begins to understand his father's great feats and his great failings. Written by Anonymous

This film follows the incredible life of Edward Bloom, through a series of flashbacks that begin when his son Will visits him for the last time. Edward is dying of cancer, and Will hasn't spoken to him for years because he believes him to be a liar that never really cared for his family. As Edward's story unfolds once again, Will tries to finally understand the truth about who his father really was... Written by Chris Makrozahopoulos

comment:
I approach Tim Burton films with a certain trepidation. Will it be "Edward Scissorhands" or "Batman II?" With Burton you could get a quirky comedy, a dark thriller, or sweet morality tale. And there's always the possibility of Danny DeVito chomping down on a raw fish.

"Big Fish" combines Burton's unusual humor with a heart-wrenching story of a father-son deathbed reconciliation. Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor share the role of Ed Bloom, one of the big fish from the movie's title while an SUV-sized catfish plays the other. Bloom is a metaphorical and literal big fish in the small pond of Ashton, Alabama in this tale told mostly through flashback. Jessica Lange plays his wife and Billy Crudup plays the son, Will, estranged from his father for the past three years. Father and son are reunited as Finney lies dying of cancer.

Ed Bloom has spent his life spinning his personal history into mythological proportions: an early encounter with a very tall man becomes a battle with a house-sized giant; a rural village is depicted as heaven on earth; military service during the Korean War morphs into a behind-the-lines mission that would make Duke Nukem proud. Originally a true believer, Will now knows everything his father has told him was not just an exageration or even a tall tale but an outright lie. In his effort to understand the truth behind his father's stories he learns to love the man as well as the mythology. And Burton delivers a terrific punchline at the end of the film that left me both tickled and weeping, a truly weird emotional state.

Burton deals with mythic themes in "Big Fish." Besides the surface story of the generational tension between father and son he explores the metaphor of the big-fish-in-a-small-pond by examining the impact Ed Bloom has had on the lives he's touched in his workaday contacts with colleagues, customers (he's a traveling salesman), and people in the small towns across the South. Not exactly "It's A Wonderful Life," he still manages to show how all of us -- even the little fish -- have profound effects on the people around us. And of course love -- unrequited and reciprocated -- control almost all of Ed's many adventures.

The acting is wonderful. You will actually believe two Brits and a Scot (Finney, Helena Bonham Carter, and McGregor) are natives of small town Alabama. Lange brings dignity and brio to the role of the long "suffering" wife -- and she still looks great(!)-- you believe she has had a long and loving life with Finney/McGregor. DeVito is a delight in the role of a circus ringmaster. But the scene-stealer is Bonham Carter in the dual role of Jenny and the crone witch.

I rated this movie ten stars and when you see it you'll do the same.

Forget all that you have heard about The Day After Tomorrow’s dubious scientific basis. That the drastic climatological changes the film is based around could never happen is of no concern. This, after all, is a disaster film. As such, it’s supposed to present an incredibly outlandish situation that no one in their right mind would wish to experience. Who, after all, would go to see a fictional film that accurately represents the intricacies of climate change? Would you spend your hard-earned cash on a movie that had the tagline: ‘The average rainfall has risen by 0.3% over five years. Only one man can warn the world. That man is...Fish. Michael Fish’?

Bicentennial Man is a film set in the not too distant future, and follows the life of a positronic robot over 200 years.
The stories of Asimov were ground breaking,in terms of robots (he invented the term robotics),and his three laws of robotics - the guiding principles of many fictional robots today.
Pre-Asimov,many robot stories were scary products of evil minds, intent on causing harm or replacing jobs.Asimov was ground breaking, portraying the human side of robots, especially in his popular "I,Robot" series.
While this treatment of robots is now commonplace in popular fiction (Data in Star Trek, etc),humanity was Asimovs great accomplishment.
Bicentennial is a great potrayal of a human robot, and who better than the wonderfully talented actor Robin Williams, who can act in many outlandish and difficult parts with dignity (and humour).Williams' performance in this film is moving, graceful, and in some places humorous - Williams' quirky nature shines in the role of the confused robot Andrew Martin.
By placing Williams in a robot suit rather than use computer imagery, the character is real and believable, and the human characteristics of Andrew Martin are definitely there.
Sam Neil as "Sir" is the "father" figure of Andrew, and acts in his usual stylish manner.
Embeth Davidtz is lovely as Portia, the great granddaughter of "Sir",and a caring person - undoubtably confused about the intrusion of a robot into her life.
The special effects in this film are great, but don't go looking for them. This is not a film about special effects, they are incidental to the plot, merely supporting the premise of a futuristic robot, and the passage of time. The future city of San Fransisco is not as remarkably different from todays, and by keeping the environment familiar to viewers, the director has allowed the viewer to accept the premise, rather than be caught up in it (cf:Jurassic Park).

CGI fun for all
This is obviously aimed at the same market as Monsters Inc and Shrek, but is different in its less cartoony feel (despite the deliberately cartoony characteristics of the lead creatures). The story is not one that had a massive in your face moral at the end (its more like its tugging at your shirt sleeves) but chooses just to tell a story about relationships between different "animals." You know the outcome, but you can't help being drawn in.
The characters themselves are far more than their voices (the advantage of less famous actors doing the voices),unlike most Disney movies. They are well rounded and completely believable, strangely. The group dynamics are brilliantly well presented and the character revelations and quirks are subtle and enjoyable. You will find yourself rooting for them far sooner than you would like to think.
The animation is brilliant,as you would expect, and you will be praying for the opportunity to go on the ice slide in the movie. You will fall in love with the characters, especially the comic relief of the prehistoric squirrel and its desperate attempts to bury its nuts.I came out wanting the obligatory merchandise, especially the sloth toy, only to be disappointed the next day when I couldn't find anything vaguely related.
Which, strangely, makes the movie all the more pure.
Better than Monsters Inc or Shrek.
A Wonderful Achievement
Shrek is a wonderful parody of every fairytale story that you can think of,for the kids it has charm, humour and tons of fun,and is a delightful film for them to enjoy. In addition,Shrek has plenty of subtle innuendo and more adult themes running seamlessly along side the story, much of which may pass younger children by,without spoiling any element of their enjoyment; while at the same time enhancing the enjoyment for the older viewers.
Shrek is simply so well created that it can successfully appeal to a huge audience excellently voiced as it is,by Mike Myers,John Lithgow,Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy.
Brilliant characters, solid script and hilarious parody, make this film a simply wonderful achievement, and that's without mentioning the awesome computer generated world that houses it.

A forever waiting
As far as I am concerned , life is not about how to live through the storm , but how to dance in the rain . However, Hachiko's life is just a forever waiting . Life can be hard , but if we have the determination , we'll finally get to the sunshine . But Hachiko hasn't made it . He has already devoted all his life to waiting his owner for ten years . This is the most thing that has deeply moved me , which I think of much feeling . The story is rearranged by a real story . Hachiko , the dog in this story , was born in Japan in 1923 . As soon as his his master died ,Hachiko was taken back to America . Then he met his new owner Wilson on a snowy day . It was not how cute the dog was but how much attention Wilson had paid to the dog that finally persuaded his life to take the dog . What surprised me was that when Hachiko had grown up , he fetched his owner to work everyday . All these years they played together , bathed together , slept together . To be honest ,I've just already regarded them as a couple . I just feel quite ashamed that I've never made my pet my best friend even if I'm fond of it very much . There was something strange that bothered both his owner and me . Hachiko never get a ball unless there are some special reasons . Unfortunately , Wilson didn't take it seriously . One morning , Hachiko should tried his best to fetch the ball in order to attract Wilson's attention . It was a big pity that Hachiko couldn't tell his owner that he felt something terrible would happen to Wilson .Even if Hachiko had tried to stop him going to work , Wilson still went to the train station after having fun with the dog . " Come on boy , I have to go to work or I ' ll be late . See you at 5 . Stay ! Go home ! " These were the last words in that morning of last day of Wilson ' life . As the result , Wilson ' s family escaped from the old house which always recalled the sweet memories about Wilson . Thus his wife sold out the house and left for another new place to start a new life . Meanwhile , Hachikowas sent to her daughter, but Hachiko always ran out of her house and went back to the train station to meet his owner . Hachiko was so firmly insisted on the engagement that Wilson ' s daughter had to gave up and let it go . During those years , Hachiko had no place to live , just come to and leave the station everyday at the same time . He didn't leave the station until he died ten years later , but he failed to meet his owner . As I have shown , this is a simple story ,was sent to her daughter, but Hachiko always ran out of her house and went back to the train station to meet his owner . Hachiko was so firmly insisted on the engagement that Wilson ' s daughter had to gave up and let it go . During those years , Hachiko had no place to live , just come to and leave the station everyday at the same time . He didn't leave the station until he died ten years later , but he failed to meet his owner .
As I have shown , this is a simple story , but it has moved a lot of people . By no means can we ignore the real loyalty and true love that the story has told us . I feel ashamed again that most of us humanbeings can not be as loyalty as a dog . In my view , loyalty is not what you say but how loyal you are that really counts . So , be loyal !
