斯顿市一家日报社的新闻我弗雷德·伯尼先生，每周都会到克朗凯特所在的学校讲授一个小时的新闻课程，并指导《校园新闻》报的我工作。有一次，克朗凯特负责采写一篇关于学校田径教练卡普·哈丁的文章。由于当天有一个同学聚会，于是克朗凯特敷衍了事地写了篇稿子交上去。第二天，弗雷德把克朗凯特单独叫到办公室，指着那篇文章说：“克朗凯特，这篇文章很糟糕，你没有问他该问的问题，也没有对他做全面的报道，你甚至没有搞清楚他是干什么的。”接着，他又说了一句令克朗凯特终生难忘的话：“克朗凯特，你要记住一点，如果有什么事情值得去做，就得把它做好。” 在此后 70多年的新闻职业生涯中，克朗凯特始终牢记着弗雷德先生的训导，对新闻事业忠贞不渝。 指挥家舟舟的成长历程 ——有缺陷的人的成长需要爱的呵护 武汉舟舟，大名胡忆舟， 20多岁，但智力仅仅相当于几岁儿童的水平。幸运的是，舟舟有一位好父亲。他的父亲胡培厚说，他从来不愿意让舟舟放弃生活和快乐的权利，他知道作为一个鲜活的生命，舟舟有权利享受这个世界带给他的快乐，作为父亲更应该为他创造和争取他应有的快乐，虽然舟舟自己并不明白这一点。胡培厚是武汉交响乐团的低音提琴手。从3岁起，舟舟就跟着父亲走进武汉交响乐团的排练厅，从此，舟舟的生命之舟，就载着他的梦，在音乐的海洋里起航了。 1999年1月22日，舟舟在北京保利剧场首次登台指挥中国歌剧院交响乐团演奏了《瑶族舞曲》和《拉德茨基进行曲》，一举成功。 2000年9月，舟舟随国家残疾人艺术团赴美巡演，指挥美国国家交响乐团等乐队演奏《自新大陆交响曲》，获得极大的成功。 高尔基的成长历程 ——成长要经历挫折和苦难 高尔基曾经说过：“我扑在书上，就像饥饿的人扑在面包上。”这种强烈的求知欲，又被人称为精神上的饥饿感。高尔基就是因为有了它，才通过刻苦自学而成为大文豪。高尔基少年时父母双亡，年仅 11岁，就到一个绘图师家去当仆人。他在干完繁重的各种杂事之余，仍千方百计地挤时间看书，常常看到深夜。有一次看得太入迷了，把茶壶烧坏了，结果被主人家的老太婆打了一顿。此外，他既无老师教，也不可能查字典，学习上困难重重。有些生僻词，比如“形而上学”“宪章运动”等等，他就难以明白。高尔基把这些拦路虎风趣地比喻为站在秘密之宫的卫兵。他想尽办法向有文化的人请教，终于一个个地消灭了这些学习中的障碍。看的书越多，高尔基的思想就越开阔，终于产生了强烈的创作冲动，走上了文学道路。 “永远走出监狱” ——成长要走出阴影 法国诗人散文家让·热内，生于 1910年的巴黎，7个月大还在襁褓中时被父母遗弃。上小学时因受同学歧视，开始自暴自弃。小学毕业后，15岁那年，他因为偷了一件小东西而被作为盗窃犯送进儿童教养院，从此发誓要终生行窃，向社会报复。热内走向社会，与流浪汉为伍。18岁时，热内应征入伍，但不久当了逃兵，流浪欧洲，一路行窃，多次被捕坐牢。第二次世界大战前，他蹲遍了欧洲的少儿教养院和拘留所。1942年，热内在狱中开始写作。1945年，35岁的让·热内开始发表小说和剧本处女作，《鲜花圣母》及后来的《玫瑰的奇迹》和《盛大的葬礼》获得好评。直到1949年，热内的文学成就才得到重视和承认。在萨特等大作家的呼吁下，法国总统颁布特赦令，赦免了热内。他曾在一次电视采访中说，他勤奋写作，是为了“永远地走出监狱。”这个曾经是窃儿的监狱常客，在1983年获得法国国家文学大奖。 罗蒙诺索夫勤奋好学 ——知识是成长的营养 1730年冬天，19岁的罗蒙诺索夫离开家乡，徒步来到了2000公里以外的莫斯科求学。因为他不是贵族子弟，接连跑了好几所学校，都被拒之门外。但罗蒙诺索夫并不罢休，后来他装作外城贵族的儿子，混入了斯拉夫、希腊、拉丁学院学习。这个贵族教会学校，全部用拉丁文授课。罗蒙诺索夫不识拉丁字，老师叫他坐最后一排。班上的同学大多十三四岁，大家讥笑这个20多岁的大傻瓜。老师的冷漠，同学的讥笑，他装作没有听见，用心听讲，专心学习。不久之后，他就学会了用拉丁文造句，成绩不断进步，座位也逐渐前移，很快就坐到了第一排。之后又因学业卓越而被派往德国学习。这位渔夫的儿子最后成了的科学家，被称为“俄国科学的始祖”。 法拉第刻苦求学 ——在逆境中也要成长成才 英国的物理学家和化学家法拉第，因家庭贫苦，小时候没有上过学。他 12岁时，就一边卖报，一边从报上识字。13岁时，法拉第进了一家印刷厂，工作之余他就翻阅装订过的书，在送货的路上也是边走边看。经过几年的努力，他终于摘掉了文盲的帽子。后来他又看《大英百科全书》，他特别喜欢电学和力学方面的内容，法拉第还用废纸订成笔记本，摘录各种资料，有时还画上插图。一个偶然的机会，英国皇家学会会员丹斯来印刷厂，意外地发现了法拉第的“手抄本”，当他知道这是出自一个学徒工之手时，大吃一惊。他送给了法拉第四张皇家学院的听课证，这便是法拉第走上科学研究道路的开始。 伟雄集团的成长故事 ——企业的成长需要把人才放在第一位 广东顺德伟雄集团，一个拥有松本电工等五大知名品牌、十余家分公司的民营企业集团，隐身其后的却是一个小学文化的老板林伟雄。 林伟雄说：“其实大多数顺德人经营企业上都有一个‘配方"——敛才才能聚财。”他所做的第一步，就是要依靠亲情化的管理，让员工们喜欢上公司并踏实工作。 随着企业规模膨胀，林伟雄开始推行管理用人上的第二部曲：“放权运动”——放手让别人去干。企业“无为而治”运转良好，不仅全员负责到个人，而且实践证明，这样做让很多小问题都被消灭在萌芽状态。 责任到位了，利益却悬空了。林伟雄得出一个结论：现代企业必须尊重员工对物质利益的合理要求。利益调整问题因此被推向前台。林伟雄咨询了各路专家，宣布对企业进行股份制改造，实行“精英人才持股制度”；对普通员工，将通过修员工宿舍、建工程师楼、探索更加合理的奖惩措施来消除其后顾之忧和不安定因素。 伟雄集团前前后后投资创办了十多家子公司，每一家子公司都按照高级管理和技术人员持股的方案招募能人，设独立法人，逐步形成董事会和管理层“两权分离”的治理结构。后来在大名鼎鼎的松本电工有限公司的筹办上，林伟雄甚至把将近 50%的股份给了初期几乎没有资本投入的人才们。 这样伟雄集团形成了顺德企业界的一道奇观：一个小学文化的老板，背后凝聚了一大批博士、硕士、工程师甚至法国专家，一头羊率领了一群老虎。 联想的并购 ——企业的成长需要冒险 联想以总价 17.5亿美元收购了IBM的个人电脑事业部，双方共同组建世界第三大PC厂商。 这次收购行为，是中国 IT行业在海外的一笔投资。以双方2003年的销售业绩合并计算，此次并购意味着联想的PC年出货量将达到1190万台，销售额将达到120亿美元，从而使得新联想进入了世界500强的营业规模。 大多数美国人并不敢相信个人电脑先驱 IBM会把自己的发家之本以17.5亿美元卖给一家中国公司，尽管这是中国的电脑公司。在此之前，这家英文名叫做“LENOVO”的公司刚刚花了至少6500万美元成为国际奥委会的赞助商，填补了IBM退出以后留下的空白。 中国企业的跨国并购正是利用自己的成本优势把握住了跨国巨头产业调整的机会。新联想每年计划销售 1100万台个人电脑，虽然目前排名世界第三，它的目标却是要超过戴尔和惠普。 但是联想集团在公布收购 IBM 个人电脑业务的前后三天，股价便大跌10% ，一度带领香港恒升指数下破万四大关。这说明投资者对并购后公司的前景不看好。不看好的不光是投资者，包括IT以及国际商业管理咨询公司内的众多人士，均对这起并购表示怀疑。 联想所选择的国际化道路遭到了来自资本市场的不信任，持续的股价低迷让他们承受了很大的压力。对于正在学会与大象跳舞的联想，应当给他们更多的时间。 华为逐步成为全球通信巨头 ——自主和专注也会促进企业的成长 华为是一个低调务实的企业，在国际市场的连年征战在国内波澜不惊，但不可否认，华为已逐步成为一个在全球范围内有影响的通信设备供应商。 从 1988年华为公司成立到2002年实现221亿元的年销售额、5.5亿美元的出口额，华为用“自主研发、开放合作”在国际公司和大企业的夹缝中求得了自己的发展。以华为公司为代表的中国电信设备制造商，在交换机、接入网、光网络等领域已然形成一股 “中国势力”， 中国厂商逐渐收回了跨国公司占据的市场份额。 是什么促成了华为的成长？业界普遍认为：坚持走自主研发的道路，并确定专注于通信核心网络技术的研究与开发这一方向是影响华为命运的关键决策。长期以来华为每年的研发投入超过其销售额收入的 10%，其2002年销售额为220亿元，而研发的费用达到了30亿元。在华为两万余名员工中，研发人员达一万多人，占到46%。 华为的低调背后是巨大的业绩： 在业务软件领域，华为名列全国第一，承建了海外 27个国家和地区的34个运营商的智能网工程，服务于全球3亿用户…… 在移动通信领域，拥有自主知识产权的全套 GSM产品、WCDMA产品和CDMA2000产品；成功为国内外80多个运营商提供移动通信解决方案和产品，服务于全球2000多万用户…… 在数据通信领域，进入英国、德国、澳大利亚、韩国、巴西等四十三个国家和地区。 华为，已经逐步成为一个国际化的企业。 韦尔奇的故事 ——团队的成长需要区别对待 1961年，25岁的韦尔奇已经以化学工程师的身份在GE的一家研究所里工作了一年，年薪是10500美元，年终还涨了1000美元，他觉得挺不错。可当他发现一个办公室里4个人的薪水居然完全一样时，他去找老板说理了，没有任何结果，沮丧之际，他萌生了去意。 就在这时，上一级主管鲁本·加托夫来到研究所检查工作。他早就注意到想“脱颖而出”的韦尔奇在业务会议上每次都能提出一些超出他预期的看法。当他知道韦尔奇将要离去时，晚饭的4个小时里竟一直在极力地做着挽留工作，直到夜里1点钟了，他还在高速公路旁的电话亭里打投币电话，继续游说…… 以下是韦尔奇的自述： “最后我决定了留下来。从此，我再也没有离开GE。加托夫的认可——他认为我与众不同而且特殊——给我留下了深刻印象。 打那以后，区别对待便成为了我进行管理的一个基本组成部分。 有些人认为区别对待的做法会严重影响到团队精神，但在我看来这是不可能的。你可以通过区别对待每一个人而建立一只强有力的团队。瞧瞧棒球队——每个人都必须认为比赛里有自己的一份，不过这并不意味着队里的每一个人都应该得到同等对待。我深刻地体会到，比赛就是如何有效地配置的运动员。谁能够最合理地配置运动员，谁就会成功。这一点对于商业来说没有任何不同。” 成功的团队来自于区别对待，即保留的，剔除最弱的，而且总是力争提高标准。 美国建立全国废旧计算机回收网 ——环保意识的加强意味着社会也在成长 电子产品废弃物是世界上增长最快的垃圾，这些垃圾中包含铅、水银、镉等有毒物质，会对环境造成严重的污染。 1998年美国就有2000多万台废弃个人计算机，由此形成的电子废物达500万吨到700万吨。据一些环保组织估计，美国的废弃个人计算机将很快达到3亿至6亿多台，但是还没有回收利用废弃个人计算机的解决方案。 随着废旧计算机处理问题的日益严重，美国计算机生产商、地方政府和环保人士在不久前的三方对话中，达成一项原则性协议，决定建立覆盖全美的废旧计算机回收网络。 这项协议要求在每台个人计算机零售价格中增加 25美元至30美元，用于资助计算机的回收项目。负责组织这次对话的美国“国家电子产品事务管理倡议组织”希望，协议的具体框架能够在今年9月底完成，并在今后数年内逐步补充完善。如果这项协议最终得到实现，它将成为美国为数不多的全国范围内的废旧物品回收计划之一。 国家电子产品事务管理倡议组织的负责人斯考特说，这项原则性协议“带给消费者的信息是，购买计算机等产品，不仅要在使用时负责，而且要对报废后的处理负责”。 奥本海默领奖 ——青少年的成长需要人的扶持和帮助 1963年，美国原子能研究方面的奖——费米奖的得主是年过六旬的科学家奥本海默。颁奖仪式上，各界名流荟萃，盖冠云集，甚至接替肯尼迪就任新总统职位的约翰逊也前来参加这一盛典。 当奥本海默走上主席台时，由于年老体弱，一不小心踉跄了一下。约翰逊总统见状，赶紧伸手去扶他。奥本海默却推开他的手，说：“总统先生，当一个人行将衰老的时候，你去扶他是没有用的，只有那些年轻人才需要你扶持。” 扶年轻人一把，这是一种更有意义的远见。扶老人一把，更多的是一个人道德修养的表现；扶年轻人一把，则是一个人胸怀、见识、能力等方面的体现。只有不断扶持新生力量，才能使得人不断成长，使社会不断发展。
