An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth"s crust that creates seismic waves(地震波).Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer(地震检波器),also known as a seismograph(地震仪).The moment magnitude of an earthquake is conventionally reported,or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude(里氏量级),with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible 感觉不到的 and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas.Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale(麦加利震级,麦氏震级).

At the Earth"s surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by a shaking and sometimes displacement (位移)of the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter (震中)is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami(海啸).The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity.

In its most generic sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event—whether a natural phenomenon or an event caused by humans—that generates seismic waves.Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture(破裂,裂开) of geological faults(断层),but also by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear experiments.

An earthquake"s point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The term epicenter means the point at ground level directly above this.

Since ancient times, earthquakes have been major disasters, resulting in people"s livelihood, and it is difficult to prevent them in advance.Earthquakes can be divided into sensed earthquakes and non sensed earthquakes. According to the magnitude, generally, damage will be caused if the magnitude is above five. The number of large earthquakes is about 20 times a year.On the eve of an earthquake, there are sometimes meteorological precursors such as wind and light before the earthquake, as well as geological phenomena such as rise and fall of groundwater, bubbling and oil slick.Animals are "living instruments" for observing earthquake precursors. It has long been recorded that in ancient China, animal behavior was used to predict earthquakes, "chickens and dogs were restless before the earthquake, chickens and dogs flew and dogs jumped..." before the earthquake, animals had some abnormal behaviors, such as tigers barking, orangutans making strange hiccups, which indicated his anger and dissatisfaction, Polu would run out of the deer circle, flamingos would rush together, snakes would twist their bodies, etc.In contrast, some precious animals are clumsy. For example, the giant panda did not respond to the earthquake. It just stood there blankly, chewing bamboo in its mouth. However, compared with animals that can feel the earthquake in advance, people without a cool head are more stupid than pandas. It is reported that some people chose to jump from a building as soon as they had a hot head during the earthquake. They didn"t think they could not escape, but lost their lives in vain. Now let me tell you some points you should pay attention to when encountering an earthquake! Don"t shout loudly in public, don"t cause panic, protect your head with your hands or objects, don"t take the elevator, and it"s best to hide under the column; At home, it"s best to hide by the bed or bathroom and don"t stand under the ceiling. Call the emergency number, stay calm and wait for rescue.I have a dream that one day there will be no more earthquakes on the earth.

Since earthquake may cause great destrucktion,we need to learn how to detect them quickly.Animals always give us warnings. For example ,before an earthquake hens would not enter their cages;rats run out from their hiding places and march fearlessly throu houses;even normally quiet dogs bark in chorus all over town.Pigeons are especially noisy and fly in unuaual patterns. And most noticeable in a chemical change in ground water before a quake.

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth"s crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time. Earthquakes are measured using observations from seismometers. The moment magnitude (or the partly obsolete Richter magnitude, numerically similar over the range of validity of the Richter scale) of an earthquake is conventionally reported, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly almost imperceptible and magnitude 7 and over potentially causing serious damage over large areas, depending on their depth. The largest earthquakes in historic times have been of magnitude slightly over 9, although there is no limit to the possible magnitude. The most recent large earthquake of magnitude 9.0 or larger was a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in Japan in 2011 (as of March 2011), and it was the largest Japanese earthquake since records began. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale. The shallower an earthquake, the more damage to structures it causes, all else being equal. At the Earth"s surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed may be displaced sufficiently to cause a tsunami. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides, and occasionally volcanic activity. In its most general sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event—whether natural or caused by humans—that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by other events such as volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear tests. An earthquake"s point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The epicenter is the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter.

What is earthquake? Earthquakes drop pressures that cause lasting changes in the Earth"s crust. Many of the people living in Iran had experienced an earthquake. When we feel something violent or something slow like rolling motion of the earth if we are at sleep, we will wake up or if we are at home and watching television or driving in the street when an earthquake happens, we will amaze. What is the reason for earthquake? Why feel of earthquakes are so different from the other? What is earthquake? Earhquakes cause dropping pressure and these are the Earth"s natural means. While Earth"s plates moving in the opposite direction of each other, a great amount pressure will impose to lithosphere. The lithosphere breaks when the pressure is great. For example imagine you have a pencil. If you give a force to both ends of it you would sea that pencil stoop. When you give enough force, the pencil would break in the middle part, and the force that you had imposed it would dropping. The action of the Earth"s crust is exactly like this .When the plates move, they stress on each other and themselves. While this pressures and stresses is great enough, the crust would break. After the crust break, the pressure will decrease as energy t moves among the Earth"s layers in form of waves, and earthquake happen. Naturally occurring earthquakes Most naturally occuring earthquakes are related to the tectonic nature of the Earth. Such earthquakes are called tectonic earthquakes. The Earth"s lithosphere is a patch work of plates in slow but constant motion caused by the heat in the Earth"s mantle and core. Plate boundaries glide past each other, creating frictional stress. When the frictional stress exceeds a critical value, called local strength, a sudden failure occurs. The boundary of tectonic plates along which failure occurs is called the fault plane. When the failure at the fault plane results in a violent displacement of the Earth"s crust, the elastic strain energy is released and elastic waves are radiated, thus causing an earthquake. It is estimated that only 10 percent or less of an earthquake"s total energy is ultimately radiated as seismic energy, while most of the earthquake"s energy is used to power the earthquake fracture growth and is eventually converted into heat. Therefore, earthquakes lower the Earth"s available potential energy and thermal energy, though these losses are negligible. To describe the physical process of occurrence of an earthquake, seismologists use the Elastic-rebound theory. The majority of tectonic earthquakes originate at depths not exceeding a few tens of kilometers. Earthquakes occurring at boundaries of tectonic plates are called interplate earthquakes, while the less frequent events that occur in the interior of the lithospheric plates are called intraplate earthquakes. Where the crust is thicker and colder, earthquakes occur at greater depths of hundreds of kilometers along subduction zones where plates descend into the Earth"s mantle. These types of earthquakes are called deep focus earthquakes. They are possibly generated when subducted lithospheric material catastrophically undergoes a phase transition (e.g., olivine to spinel), releasing stored energy—such as elastic strain, chemical energy or gravitational energy—that cannot be supported at the pressures and temperatures present at such depths. Earthquakes may also occur in volcanic regions and are caused by the movement of magma in volcanoes. Such quakes can be an early warning of volcanic eruptions. A recently proposed theory suggests that some earthquakes may occur in a sort of earthquake storm, where one earthquake will trigger a series of earthquakes each triggered by the previous shifts on the fault lines, similar to aftershocks, but occurring years later, and with some of the later earthquakes as damaging as the early ones. Such a pattern was observed in the sequence of about a dozen earthquakes that struck the Anatolian Fault in Turkey in the 20th Century, the half dozen large earthquakes in New Madrid in 1811-1812, and has been inferred for older anomalous clusters of large earthquakes in the Middle East and in the Mojave Desert.

An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth"s crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer, also known as a seismograph. The moment magnitude of an earthquake is conventionally reported, or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale. At the Earth"s surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by a shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity. In its most generic sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event—whether a natural phenomenon or an event caused by humans—that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, huge amounts of gas migration, mainly methane deep within the earth, but also by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear experiments. The 2008 Sichuan earthquake (Chinese: 四川大地震), or Great Sichuan Earthquake which measured at 8.0 Ms[5] and 8.3 Mw[6] according to PRC"s China Seismological Bureau, and 7.9 Mw according to USGS, occurred at 14:28:01.42 CST (06:28:01.42 UTC) on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan province of China. It was also known as the Wenchuan earthquake (Chinese: 汶川大地震), after the earthquake"s epicenter in Wenchuan County in Sichuan province. The epicenter was 80 kilometres (50 mi) west-northwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, with a depth of 19 kilometres (12 mi).[2] The earthquake was felt as far away as Beijing (1,500 km away) and Shanghai (1,700 km away), where office buildings swayed with the tremor.[7] The earthquake was also felt in nearby countries.Official figures (as of May 30, 12:00 CST) state that 68,858 are confirmed dead, including 68,007 in Sichuan province, and 366,586 injured, with 18,618 listed as missing.[4] The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless,[8] though the number could be as high as 11 million.[9] It was the deadliest and strongest earthquake to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which killed at least 240,000 people. Approximately 15 million people lived in the affected area. The earthquake was followed by two major aftershocks, which led to the collapse of 420,000 more buildings.[10] On May 25, a major aftershock of 6.0 Mw hit northeast of the original earthquake"s epicenter, in Qingchuan County, causing eight deaths, 927 injuries, and billions of dollars in damage.

Earthquakes are one of the most serious natural disasters in the world. Earthquake, is the sharp burst occurred within the earth produced a shock wave, within the scope of certain and cause ground vibration phenomenon. The earthquake is the earth surface fast vibration. It is like a tsunami, tornado, freeze disaster on earth as often happens, is a kind of natural disasters. The earth quake is the most visible, vibration most common form. In the bottom of the ocean or strong earthquake happened in coastal area, can cause huge waves, called tsunami. Earthquakes are very frequent, global 5.5 million times each year about earthquake.Earthquakes usually cause serious casualties, can cause fires, floods, poisonous gas leak, bacteria and radioactive substances diffusion, still may cause tsunamis, landslide, collapse, such secondary disasters ground fissures.A magnitude is according to the release of the earthquake energy size and decide. An earthquake releases energy more, the greater the earthquake level. At present, the humanity has recorded the magnitude of the earthquake is the largest on May 22, 1960 Chile earthquake happened, released by 9.5 energy equivalent to a single 1800 tons of explosives amount of hydrogen bombs, or equivalent to a 100 million kilowatts of power plants 40 years of the turbine. The wenchuan earthquake release energy equivalent to about 90 million tons of explosives amount of hydrogen bombs, or 100 million kilowatts of power plant capacity of 2 years.1 degrees: not only instrument can record to -; 2 degrees: micro inductive - especially sensitive person in completely the stillness inductive; 3 degrees: little inductive - indoor minority in the stillness inductive, hanging objects slight swing; 4 degrees: inductive - most people, outdoor indoor recently, hanging objects minority swinging, instability rattled the vessels; 5 degrees: wake - outdoor most people inductive, livestock restless, door window panes, wall surface crack; 6 degrees: panic - people stand instability, livestock flight, vessels PengShe damage over falls, crude, steep candy landslide; 7 degrees: roof damage - housing slight damage, arch, chimney damage, surface crack and sandblasting take water; 8 degrees: construction damage - much damage, a few houses destroyed, underground pipeline rupture collapsed embankment; 9 degrees: building common destruction - housing most damage, a few dump, arch, chimney, tracks crooked; such collapses 10 degrees: building common destroy - houses, damaged roads, dumping water waves of collapse, flying toward the shore; 11 degrees: destruction - houses collapsed, roadbed of bank section collapse produced very big change, surface destroyed; 12 degrees: mountains YiJing - all the buildings destroyed, the terrain universal destruction of drastic change plants and animals.Earthquake is likely to aftershocks, and aftershocks position is not necessarily a source close to the position. So study after the earthquake rescue is one of very important measure. When an earthquake occurs, it was vital to have your head, calm as attitude. Only calm, it will be possible to use at ordinary times, shockproof knowledge and learn the size and near-far judge earthquake. More recent earthquake often only after next bumpy start, swinging. Far less bumpy shock feeling, and mainly with wavering, little vibration and acoustic brittle. General small earthquakes and far tremor needn"t breakout. Therefore, earthquake, although at present the human still cannot avoid completely and control, but as long as can master the self-help, mutualaid skills, can make the disaster to the minimum. Summary have the following: 1. Keep calm in the earthquake is very important, someone observed, many innocents because of houses collapsed and not by crushing or extrusion fatal injury, but because mental breakdown, thus losing hope of survival, yelling, yell, in extreme fear "kill" themselves. This is because, yelling yell will accelerate metabolism, increase oxygen consumption, physical strength drops, tolerance decreased; Meanwhile, shout, will be inhaled lots of smoke, easy cause choking increase unnecessary casualties. Correct attitude in any bad environment, always to keep calm and analysis environment, to find a way out, waiting for rescue. 2. Hemostatic, fixed scarred and crush injuries in common is the earthquake damage. Open wounds, go out blood should first hemostatic raise limb, and to call for help. To open fractures, should not do the site reset, in order to prevent the organization was injured again, general use a clean gauze to cover the wound, a simple again after fixation operation. Different parts of fracture, according to the different requirements of fixed. And with reference to different injury, conclusive classification, gradation, send hospital further treatment. 3. Properly handle the wound as soon as possible, should try to squeeze quickly remove stress, meet the wounded, large and keep the wound clean, with a clean gauze wound, suspected of tetanus and producing gas coli infection with the hospital immediately when contact, timely diagnosis and treatment. For large area trauma and serious gen injured, but the oral glucose brine, prevent shock occurred. 4. Prevent fire earthquake often cause many "times disaster", fire is a common kind. As soon as possible in the fire from the scene of the fire, burning off the clothes covered with wet clothes, or body, or lie and roll around, also can pour water splashed fire directly. Avoid by all means use both hands and flop flame, otherwise it will cause hands burned. Sterile dressings or clean cloth bandage send a hospital after further treatment. 5. Also want to prevent tetanus and gas gangrene, and early buried bodies, pay attention to diet water wholesome, prevent the big epidemic after great plagues.1 and in the playground or outdoor, can freeze ducks, hands protect the head, dodge the tall buildings or dangerous objects. 2, don"t return to the classroom. Three, post-earthquake shall be organized to evacuate. 4, must not jump! Do not stand at the window! Don"t go to the balcony. Family shock absorber secrets 1. Hurry up emergency. If feel shaking very light that source is far away, just beside a sturdy furniture can be. Earthquake, from beginning to end, time but vibration of ten seconds to dozens of seconds, so take the time to most key shock absorber, don"t hold up time. 2. Choosing the shock absorber space. Indoor safer space has: the shock absorber, corner foot wall; A plumbing and heating pipes etc place. The most adverse shock absorber place is: no propping the bed; Condole top, droplight; Around the floor no-supporting; Glass mirror) and large (including window. 3. Do self protection. First to calm, choose a good shelter after sat down, should be ducks or face downwards, forehead in two arm head; Or seize table leg, etc, in order to avoid the objects around firm coseismic falls or injured because of body out of control shift; With bowed head and neck, protection, hand to protect the head or neck; Protect your eyes, and bowed down their heads, and close my eyes, to prevent foreign body damage; Protect mouth and nose, when possible, can use wet towel to cover your mouth and nose, to prevent dust and gas.

Earthquake (earthquake) also known as the earthquake, ground vibration, vibration caused by the crust is the rapid release of energy in the process, a kind of natural phenomenon during the seismic waves can be generated. Earthquakes occur around the world each year about five million five hundred thousand times. Earthquake often caused serious casualties, can cause fires, floods, toxic gas leakage, bacteria and the spread of radioactive material, may also cause secondary disaster of tsunami, landslide, collapse, ground crack. The distribution of earthquakes can be divided into two aspects of time and geographical distribution 时间分布 Time distribution 地震活动在时间上具有一定的周期性。 Seismic activity has certain periodicity in time. Performance for the frequent seismic activity, in a certain period of time intensity, called seismic active period; and another time period seismic activity is relatively less frequency, intensity, called seismic quiescence. The geographic distribution of earthquakes is under the control of certain geological conditions, has certain regularity. The subduction boundary between plates, forming active seismic zone, seismic activity. The whole world has three main seismic belts: one is the Pacific seismic belt, surround the Pacific plate in the earth, including the south, the North American Pacific coast, the Aleutian Islands, Kamchatka Peninsula, the Kuril Islands, Japan islands, via Taiwan to Philippines to the southeast until the New Zealand, is one of the most active earthquake area, concentrated more than 80% earthquakes worldwide, 5 earthquake, 4 times in this. This zone in the Pacific plate and the American plate, Eurasian plate, India plate and the subduction boundary, boundary of the Antarctic plate and the American plate die. Two is the Eurasian seismic belt, roughly from West Indonesia, Burma through the Hengduan Mountains, China Himalaya mountains, crossed the Pamirs, the Central Asia to the Mediterranean Sea and the coast. The band at the boundary of Eurasia and Africa plate, India plate and disappearing. Three is the mid-ocean ridge seismic belt, contains three of the world"s oceans stretches (i.e., the Atlantic Pacific and India ocean and the Arctic Ocean ridge). Seismic mid-ocean ridge seismic zone containing only about 5 ﹪ earthquake belt, here almost all earthquakes is shallow earthquakes. 中国地震主要分布在五个区域:台湾地区、西南地区、西北地区、华北地区、东南沿海地区。 China earthquake are mainly distributed in five regions: Taiwan, southwest, northwest, North China region, the southeast coastal areas. 地震震级 Earthquake magnitude 地震震级是根据地震时释放的能量的大小而定的。一次地震释放的能量越多,地震级别越大。人类有记录的震级的地震是1960年5月21日智利发生的9.5级地震,所释放的能量相当于一颗1800万吨炸药量的氢弹,或相当于100万千瓦的发电厂40年的发电量。汶川地震所释放的能量大约相当于90万吨炸药量的氢弹,或100万千瓦的发电厂2年的发电量。 The earthquake magnitude is determined according to the seismic energy released by the size of the. An earthquake release more energy, more earthquake level. The largest earthquake magnitude human record is May 21, 1960 Chile earthquake occurred in 9.5, the hydrogen bomb release energy equivalent to a 18000000 tons of explosive charge, or the equivalent of 1000000 kilowatts of power plant generating capacity of 40 years. Hydrogen released by Wenchuan seismic energy equivalent to about 900000 tons of explosive charge, generating capacity of 2 years or 1000000 kilowatts of power plant. 国际上一般采用美国地震学家查尔斯·弗朗西斯·芮希特和宾诺·古腾堡(Beno Gutenberg)于1935年共同提出的震级划分法,即通常所说的里氏地震规模。里氏规模是地震波振幅以10为底的对数,并选择距震中100千米的距离为标准。里氏规模每增强一级,释放的能量约增加32倍,相隔二级的震级其能量相差1000 (~ 32 × 32)倍。 International general use the United States seismologist Charles Francis Richter and beno Gutenberg (Beno Gutenberg) magnitude division method proposed in 1935, commonly known as the Richter scale. The Richter scale earthquake wave is the maximum amplitude of the base 10 logarithm, and select 100 kilometres from the epicentre distance as the standard. The Richter scale increases by one level, the release of energy increased by about 32 times, two of the magnitude of the energy difference of 1000 separated (~ 32 × 32) times. 小于里氏2.5级的地震,人一般不易察觉,称为小震或微震;里氏2.5-5.0的地震,震中附近的人会有不同程度的感觉,称为有感地震,全世界每年大约发生十几万次;大于里氏规模5.0的地震,会造成建筑物不同程度的损坏,称为破坏性地震。里氏规模4.5以上的地震可以在全球范围内监测到。有记录以来,历的地震是发生在1960年5月22日19时11分南美洲的智利,根据美国地质调查所,里氏规模竟达9.5。 Less than a magnitude 2.5 earthquake, generally difficult to detect, known as the small earthquake or tremor; 2.5-5.0 earthquake magnitude, epicenter near the people will have different feeling, called felt earthquake, around the world each year hundreds of thousands of times greater than about; earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale, will cause damage to buildings in different degree, known as the devastating earthquake. The earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale above can be globally monitor. Since records began, the largest in the history of the earthquake occurred at nineteen eleven on May 22, 1960 Chile of South America, according to the United States Geological Survey, up to 9.5 on the Richter scale.

something about earthquake

分类: 教育/科学 >> 外语学习 问题描述: 帮我找找有关地震的资料(英语的~ Thanks~ 解析: Naturally occurring earthquakes Most naturally occuring earthquakes are related to the tectonic nature of the Earth. It is estimated that only 10 percent or less of an earthquake"s total energy is ultimately radiated as sei *** ic energy, while most of the earthquake"s energy is used to power the earthquake fracture growth and is eventually converted into heat. Therefore, earthquakes lower the Earth"s available potential energy and thermal energy, though these losses are negligible. To describe the physical process of occurrence of an earthquake, sei *** ologists use the Elastic-rebound theory.

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor, temblor or seismic activity) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth"s crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer, also known as a seismograph. The moment magnitude (or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude) of an earthquake is conventionally reported, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale. At the Earth"s surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity. In its most generic sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event — whether a natural phenomenon or an event caused by humans — that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear experiments. An earthquake"s point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The term epicenter refers to the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter.Tectonic earthquakes will occur anywhere within the earth where there is sufficient stored elastic strain energy to drive fracture propagation along a fault plane. In the case of transform or convergent type plate boundaries, which form the largest fault surfaces on earth, they will move past each other smoothly and aseismically only if there are no irregularities or asperities along the boundary that increase the frictional resistance. Most boundaries do have such asperities and this leads to a form of stick-slip behaviour. Once the boundary has locked, continued relative motion between the plates leads to increasing stress and therefore, stored strain energy in the volume around the fault surface. This continues until the stress has risen sufficiently to break through the asperity, suddenly allowing sliding over the locked portion of the fault, releasing the stored energy. This energy is released as a combination of radiated elastic strain seismic waves, frictional heating of the fault surface, and cracking of the rock, thus causing an earthquake. This process of gradual build-up of strain and stress punctuated by occasional sudden earthquake failure is referred to as the Elastic-rebound theory. It is estimated that only 10 percent or less of an earthquake"s total energy is radiated as seismic energy. Most of the earthquake"s energy is used to power the earthquake fracture growth or is converted into heat generated by friction. Therefore, earthquakes lower the Earth"s available elastic potential energy and raise its temperature, though these changes are negligible compared to the conductive and convective flow of heat out from the Earth"s deep interiorWhere plate boundaries occur within continental lithosphere, deformation is spread out over a much larger area than the plate boundary itself. In the case of the San Andreas fault continental transform, many earthquakes occur away from the plate boundary and are related to strains developed within the broader zone of deformation caused by major irregularities in the fault trace (e.g. the “Big bend” region). The Northridge earthquake was associated with movement on a blind thrust within such a zone. Another example is the strongly oblique convergent plate boundary between the Arabian and Eurasian plates where it runs through the northwestern part of the Zagros mountains. The deformation associated with this plate boundary is partitioned into nearly pure thrust sense movements perpendicular to the boundary over a wide zone to the southwest and nearly pure strike-slip motion along the Main Recent Fault close to the actual plate boundary itself. This is demonstrated by earthquake focal mechanisms.[2]All tectonic plates have internal stress fields caused by their interactions with neighbouring plates and sedimentary loading or unloading (e.g. deglaciation). These stresses may be sufficient to cause failure along existing fault planes, giving rise to intraplate earthquakes

In the past hundred years, there have heen frequent natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, mud-rock flows, seismic sea waves, earthquakes, windstorms and the stretching of new deserts. The disasters have killed millions upon millions of people, destroyed countless homes, and wiped out numerous pieces of fertile land. Now more and more people become aware that those disasters have much to do with what we have done to the earth. We have cut down too many trees in the forests,we have badly polluted the environment, we have shocked our own home-planet time and again with tremendously powerful explosions of nuclear bombs. As a result, climates have become abnormal, rainwater rushes down hillsides angrily, and the underground energy goes up to revenge itself on us.The earth is our only home-planet. It is urgent for us to stop damaging it, and to do our best to protect it and make it a lovely place suitable to live in, for we have nowhere to go and survive except where we are now.

大学英语作文How to Prepare for Earthquakes120字

Earthquakes can be among the most destructive natural disasters. Earthquakes can happen just about anywhere. They cannot be predicted, but your chances of survival are much better if you prepare in advance and you know what to do in case an earthquake strikes. If you are in a Vehicle, stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle, because the metal cover of a car will protect you from falling objects. If you are in a building, hold onto a solid object or get to the floor so that you do not fall. And you can also get next to a sturdy piece of furniture so that if a wall falls, it will create a space in which you can survive.

Earthquakes may take place anywhere on the earth' s surface. During all earth quake, the vibrations make the earth's surface tremble, and even crack open. Houses fall, people are lilled or injured and sometimes whole cities are destroyed. Can we do something to protect ourselves against earthquakes? Can we take precau tionary measures? We can. Scientists have made investigation on earthquakes. They have made maps showing the "earthquake belts". In areas along these belts, earthquakes are likely to occur. In these areas we can build special houses to resist earthquake shocks and protect ourselves. in the future, scientists will be able to predict exactly when and where earthquakes will take place. Then they will be able to tell people to take precautionary measures. Thus lives can he saved and damage can be lessened

An earthquake is a shaking of the ground caused by the sudden breaking and shifting of large sections of Earth"s rocky outer shell. Earthquakes are among the most powerful events on earth, and their results can be terrifying. A severe earthquake may release energy 10,000 times as great as that of the first atomic bomb. Rock movements during an earthquake can make rivers change their course. Earthquakes can trigger landslides that cause great damage and loss of life. Large earthquakes beneath the ocean can create a series of huge, destructive waves called tsunamis (pronounced tsoo NAH meez) that flood coasts for many miles. Earthquakes almost never kill people directly. Instead, many deaths and injuries in earthquakes result from falling objects and the collapse of buildings, bridges, and other structures. Fire resulting from broken gas or power lines is another major danger during a quake. Spills of hazardous chemicals are also a concern during an earthquake. The force of an earthquake depends on how much rock breaks and how far it shifts. Powerful earthquakes can shake firm ground violently for great distances. During minor earthquakes, the vibration may be no greater than the vibration caused by a passing truck. On average, a powerful earthquake occurs less than once every two years. At least 40 moderate earthquakes cause damage somewhere in the world each year. About 40,000 to 50,000 small earthquakes--large enough to be felt but not damaging--occur annually.

Thiskind of earthquake scale quite small, the number of times very arealso few, even if has, also often occurs in the limestone cave denselycovered limestone area or the large-scale underground mining miningarea. 4. induces the earthquake Because the reservoir stores water, the oil field pours waterthe earthquake which and so on the activity initiates to be calledinduces the earthquake. This kind of earthquake merely in certainspecific reservoir storehouse districts or oil field area occurrence. 5. artificial earthquakes The underground nuclear explosion, the blasting explosivedemolition and so on artificial cause the ground vibration is calledthe artificial earthquake. The artificial earthquake is an earthquakewhich causes by the artificial activity. If the industry demolition, the underground nuclear explosion create vibration; Carried onhigh-pressure waterflood as well as the big reservoir after the deepwell stores water increased the earth"s crust pressure, sometimes alsocould induce the earthquake. The earthquake wave originates the place, is called center of origin.Center of origin in the ground vertical projection, is called theepicenter. Is called the depth of origin the epicenter to the centerof origin depth. Usually is smaller than 70 kilometers the depth oforigin to call the shallow source earthquake, the depth to call thesource earthquake, the depth in 70-300 kilometer to be bigger than 300kilometers to call the deep source earthquake. 英语作文:地震的原由想象篇,带翻译

The reason why the earth quakesEarthquake is bad. It destroys millions of homes and even takes thousands of lives. Everybody hates earthquakes. Many scientists devote their whole life working on this subject, trying to find out why the earth quakes and how to prevent it from more damages. So, why does the earth quake?I believe most Chinese know about this story : At first, there was a complete chaos in nowhere in the universe, after nobody-knows-how-many years, a man who was later named Pangu was shaped and woke up. He split the chaos with an axe. That"s when we had the earth separated from other materials. Then his body was transformed into the moutains and rivers on earth. Here, one thing to be noticed is that Pangu is not died, he just fell asleep and integrated himself with the soil. During his trillions of years sleep, he need a turnover or a scratch on some ithcy points. When he turns his body part to another position, we have earthquake, just like when he sniffs, we have hurricane. From this point of view, we as the most intelligent creatures in the world must behave, or once he wakes up at some time, nobody knows what will happen, but one thing for sure is that days must be much tougher than when we have earthquakes.
