《三句半》属于曲艺曲种。一组表演词仅三句和一个短语而得名。表演者为四人，前三人每人说或唱一句，第四人则念诵归纳前三句内容的词或短语，反复循环至结束。演员自击锣、鼓、钹、碰铃等打击乐器以加强气氛，还可不断变换队形。擅长表现滑稽风趣的内容。在群众业余文艺活动中颇流行，常用来表现群众身边的生活，表扬好人好事，鞭挞坏人坏事，或宣传方针政策、工作任务，形式灵活简便。相关特点：为了突出三句半的特点，给观众一个“新鲜、奇特”或“诙谐”的效果，三句半的“半句”应该以两个字为主，当然也可以用一个字，但不容易表达需要的思想。如果用两个字找不出合适的词（韵母和音调都受控于前2句，的确很难），也可以用三个字，但应尽量少用。至于四个字和更多的字数是必须避免的。“儿化”音中“儿”不算字数。
