影响储氢合金吸除能力的因素有：角质层的厚薄、皮肤含水量、毛孔的状态。气态存储是对氢气加压，减小体积，以气体形式储存于特定容器中，根据压力大小的不同，气态储存又可分为低压储存和高压储存。氢气可以像天然气一样用低压储存，使用巨大的水密封储槽。该方法适合大规模储存气体时使用。由于氢的密度太低，应用不多。气态高压储存是最普通和最直接的储存方式，通过高压阀的调节就可以直接将氢气释放出来。普通高压气态储氢是一种应用广泛、简便易行的储氢方式 ,而且成本低, 充放气速度快 , 且在常温下就可进行。但其缺点是需要厚重的耐压容器, 并要消耗较大的氢气压缩功, 存在氢气易泄漏和容器爆破等不安全因素 。一个充气压力为 15 MPa 的标准高压钢瓶储氢重量仅约为 1.0 %;供太空用的钛瓶储氢重量也仅为 5 % 。可见, 高压钢瓶储氢的能量密度一般都比较低。

当贮气筒内气压低于规定值时，膜片下腔气压较低，不能克服调压弹簧的预紧力，膜片连同空心管被调压弹簧压到下极限位置，空心管下端面紧压着排气阀，并将它推离阀座。此时，由贮气筒至卸荷室的通路被隔断，卸荷室与大气相通，卸荷阀在最高位置，进气阀处于密封状态，空气压缩机对贮气筒正常充气。工作过程如图7-9所示：图7-9　调压器工作原理示意图当贮气筒气压达到规定值时，膜片下方气压便克服了调压弹簧的预紧力而推动膜片上拱，空心管和排气阀也上移，直到排气阀压靠阀座，切断卸荷室与大气的通路，并且空心管下端面也离开排气阀，而出现一相应的间隙，卸荷室即与贮气筒相通。压缩空气便经气管进入卸荷室，压下两卸荷阀和进气阀，使两气缸相通，失去了密封作用，停止泵气并卸掉了载荷。随着贮气筒内压缩空气不断消耗，膜片下面的气压降低，膜片和空心管组即在调压弹簧作用下相应下移，气压降到关闭气压时，空心管下端将排气阀压开，卸荷室与贮气筒的通路被切断，而与大气相通，卸荷室内的压缩空气即排入大气，卸荷阀在其弹簧作用下升高，进气阀又恢复正常工作，空气压缩机又恢复了对贮气筒正常供气。
