管理目标对象：ERP：财务、中长期计划、生产管理（非制造管理）、产品种类、数量、金额管理。MES：通过各种即时调度、控制、预警等方式，保证企业以相对低的成本及时完成经常变化的多品种生产订单。并提供产品售出后的追溯服务管理。功能主要包括：供应商至企业、企业至客户间的物料配送管理、企业内部的物流配送管理、即时的物流配送计划，制造过程中的工艺、测试、质量管理。物料的批次级（S/N)管理，批次的分拆及合并。数据获取方式：ERP：电脑操作员或办公室人员定期将数据（经处理或简单汇总过的）输入各种表单，数据输入的目标多数是为了财务月底结帐及做报表。以上这种方式在中大型企业中会造成物流及制造的及时性不好，各级的管理人员很难相信ERP中的即时信息。MES：自动数据采集设备在实际的物流配送、制造、测试过程（含检验）进行作业的同时，自动输入数据，或者通过物流配送、制造一线的管理或作业人员手动输入数据。例：ERP中的某个生产订单的完成数量是由车间人上报，或填入的。在MES中某个生产订单的完成数量是系统计算得出的。一个生产订单在实际制造中 会对应到一定数量的实际产品，每批产品的制造情况（当前的工序、是否完工、是否报废等）在AMES的作业执行及测试管理中都会及时记录。当前的完成数量也就可以计算获取了。
