POEMS综合征的病因、发病机制尚不清楚，近年来认为可能与血管内皮生长因子(VEGF)、前炎症性细胞因子(proin-flammatorycytokines)、基质金属蛋白酶(MMP)以及HHV-8感染有关(1,2)。
